I just read that Remington is releasing a "new" rifle platform this year. Anyone in the know about what it might be? Controlled round feed...

Re: New Remington Platform?

Just got this email a few minutes ago...

Re: New Remington Platform?

Are these the same masterminds that brought us the J-Lock, X-Mark Pro trigger, and Hogue stocks on "precision" rifles? Hope not.

Re: New Remington Platform?

Unless its the MSR at a reasonable price, I doubt anybody will really care.

True, true...

The 700 was created in 1962, those masterminds are ancient...

The X Mark is not a great trigger, but the two that I have had were very serviceable.

The SPS series of rifles are budget conscious rifles.
If you want a factory remington with a good, solid stock, they sell those also.
They sell as every one of those SPS tacticals they make.

Re: New Remington Platform?

I think Snipers Hide would divide by zero if the new Remington included a barrel nut...

pretty much

Re: New Remington Platform?

It would be nice if they would release a main-stream version of the MSR. Even an MSR action in a normal stock would make me happy. But I don't think they really give a shit about guys like us. We're supposed to be happy with the 700 til the end of time.

Re: New Remington Platform?

Thanks Alpine.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: BoilerUP</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I think Snipers Hide would divide by zero if the new Remington included a barrel nut... </div></div>

Uh oh. NaN!

Re: New Remington Platform?

Barrel nut AND a bladed trigger?

Good to see Big Green is letting Savage do market research for them.

In seriousness, I wonder if the action will be 700 footprint for stocks and accessories, as Alpine's article doesn't really address it.

**If** the 783 is a 700 footprint for accessories, **and*** the action threads are 1-1/16"-20 to accept small shank Savage prefit barrels...well my friends

Re: New Remington Platform?

...of course this could end up being just like the Savage Edge/Axis debacle...

Re: New Remington Platform?

I would think they would be foolish not to design it on the same footprint, but who knows. If I was on that design team that would be a high priority on the design intent wish list. After making a stock for the savage action and the Rem 700 I can tell you the Rem 700 is a better design and the engineers that designed it had the whole rifle in mind when they did so. On the savage action you loose some real estate on the rear pillar to allow sufficient clearance for the trigger assembly, but it doesn't really matter since accuracy isn't affected.

This. I want one but the chassis alone is 2k? Good lord.

I don't like it. If Remington starts using a barrel nut we're gonna have to find a new topic to pointlessly kick each other in the balls over. Is this some sort of convoluted plan for achieving world peace? Change is bad.

Re: New Remington Platform?

is this some kind of collaboration between the two companies?

Yup, its a Savington

Re: New Remington Platform?

I think its a good step, especially if it is indeed in a 700 footprint, and accepts Savage barrels. I'm pretty big on Savage rifles, but if Remington did this on the 783, I'd definitely buy one, now just to wait for a lefty version...

Picture of the receiver. Maybe someone more familiar than me can take a guess.

Re: New Remington Platform?

That trigger is abhorrent. The accu-trigger is the sole reason my Savages don't get more range time. It already has a Remington style thumb safety, so make the trigger a 2 stage or ditch the blade altogether.

This will be nice for hunters on a budget but that's not the crowd that will be tinkering with different barrels and cartridges so the barrel nut idea is out of place.

I'm really confused by this thing. Who exactly are they aiming at?

Increasingly, it appears like they're aiming at "lowest possible cost of manufacture".

Yup, it looks just like the Savage Axis - made to a price point and little more.

Re: New Remington Platform?

The 770's are junk

Maybe this is a step up, or maybe they are trying to get back some of the market they have to be lossing to some of the other guys

I swapped out my Accutrigger on my 308 10PC ... made the rifle much more reliable/enjoyable to shoot.

Re: New Remington Platform?

I think that is a Marlin X7 with a different ejection port and bolt shroud. The trigger mechanisms are identical, as are the safety location. Is Marlin part of Freedom Group as well?

Mike

Re: New Remington Platform?

Yes...Remington acquired Marlin in 2008

That is a lot more of what I'm afraid of. I couldn't believe Remington still pushes their biggest project loser, the 710/715/770 They've had to change the name three times because it's so crappy. People won't buy it because it's crap. Yet they still push it.

Re: New Remington Platform?

I used to think good things about Remington years ago, but today they are quickly going down the shitter.....how is going backwards progress i will never know.

Savington. Big green has adopted the barrel nut, floating bolt head and now copied the accutrigger.

Re: New Remington Platform?

The classic bold shroud and knob gone!? What the fuck is that? Fine if they want to make changes, but to spit on their own history in the process?

An accu trigger?!

Do I need to go and buy a dozen 700's now just to insure my children's children will be able to own a decent rifle?

I'm going back to the Nightforce Beast thread. This one is just depressing.

Re: New Remington Platform?

"No more 3 rings of steel".... A cast MIM bolt, and to make things worse it still has a 90 degree bolt throw. (no insults intended.) Low cost rifle for Remington = overpriced rifle but cheaper than the 700's for the customer.

Plenty of good rifles available to choose from...

Re: New Remington Platform?

looks like a mix of a ruger american/savage ripoff

Yeah it's on the list but theres a lotta other projects need doin first.

That's just freaking depressing ... They're focusing on quantity rather than quality. Everything about this new rifle is how to get it produced en-mass. I don't think Remington really cares about precision rifle market share.

Exactly. Hopefully there is more to be released. It's sad when a company's 'pride' in the new year is so dismal.

Off the top of my head...Why not:
- An updated P and LTR (1/10 and threaded)?
- A serious DBM offering? Even Ruger has an AICS clone now...
- An AAC-SD offered with an HSP Stock?
- More stainless options! More caliber options!
- Or, if they <span style="font-style: italic">really</span> want to copy Savage, why not some offerings with McMillan stocks?

I hope there is more at Shot Show. A company should be using this opportunity to show off!
