Madison, Ms
I recently worked up a very good load for my 6.5 creedmor. 42.4 h4350 with a 140 Berger vld. Was shooting 1/4 moa so I pulled out my ced m2 to chrony them. Mean was 2747 fps at 10 ft. Sd was like 4.... Got me thinking it should be running a little faster. So I pulled out some factory 140 amaxs and shot and got 2812 fps. Well their load data was 41.5 h4350. I'm almost a full grain more and getting 60 to 70 fps less ?? Do you guys think I got a crappy lot of 4350? It's not the chronograph & I am fine with it's velocity but I am really curious as to whether or not these #'s sound right. Thanks

Re: Do these #'s sound right???

Could be you have a slow lot of H4350, I do. Loads in my 260 are 1-1.5 grains heavier to reach the velocities others are seeing with less...

Re: Do these #'s sound right???

That's pretty much what I figured. Guess I will use what I got.

Remember, different bullets will have different internal ballistics, so even though they are the same weight class, they have slightly different characteristics that will impact MV, like bearing surface and very small differences in diameter (yes, they both are 0.264, but one could be 0.2640 and the other is 0.2644", etc). You are also be loading the 140gr Bergers to a different pressure level due to seating depth. Don't necessarily blame it on the lot of powder.
