I was in the market for a midsize 9mm and I ended up picking up Sig P229 e2. After handling a multitude of other options including Glock, M&P, and XD it was clearly the most comfortable in my hands.
Despite reading recent concerns about Sig quality I plunked down the princely sum required and took one home.
Initial inspection revealed a very nicely machined and finished gun. Everything fits together well and it exudes a quality feel. It's definitely a bit chunky and heavy, but that doesn't bother me as this will be range/outdoors gun.
Today I finally got out to the range and put 305 rounds through it. Ammunition included WW 115, FC 115, Blazer Aluminum 147, SPR 124, and Fiocchi Xtrema 147. It ran every round without a single stoppage. The only issue was the Fiocchi failed to lock back the slide on an empty mag. This didn't surprise me because it was obviously very lightly loaded.
Observations:
The trigger is very smooth and crisp, however it has a fairly long pull and reset. At some point I will send it in for a trigger job or an SRT.
Recoil was smooth and light. Clearly this is where the heft pays off.
As previously mentioned, the reliability has been great so far. Hopefully this trend will continue into meaningful round counts.
In a few weeks I will be taking a class with it and will be able to provide more feedback, but so far so good. Let me know if you have any questions.
