No offense, Luna, but Im sick of hearing stuff like this. Doesnt that assume that one "asked" to be here, which we didnt. I dont owe the world (or any god or gods)a damn thing. I only do what I have to because I have to do it to get bye, or because I enjoy doing it. I dont owe anyone but the bank, anything, and I owe them because I asked for the loan and agreed to pay it.
Again, no offense ntended, just a philosophical examination, and none the less a good way to point the kds. Just dont tell them they owe anything. They should do things not because they owe anyone but because they see one way as better than another and they freely choose it. </div></div>
I know this is the Ladies Motivational Pic thread... Perhaps the non-picture-posts tend to be more philosophical here vs "bar talk" over on the 'other' Mot-Pic-Thread.
So, in that light, I will respond to you, maggot.
If someone thinks they don't owe society anything, that their primary purpose is just to get by and do what they want, then they should Leave that society. They are a self-proclaimed, self-entitled, self-absorbed Burden on everyone else simply due to laziness.
IF, however, that person actually contributes to the betterment of that society, maybe as simply as following the laws and not hurting others, paying reasonable taxes, help an old lady cross a street, hold a door open for someone just because, give a stray dog some food, a bath, a home... THEN they should stay, feel welcome, spend their "free time" as they wish.
I think you contribute more than you give yourself credit for, maggot. Those words for teens wasn't aimed at starting another AmeriCorp; they're just to point out that society doesn't owe them a free ride. If they want to enjoy relative low crime, clean streets, an economy that still supports amusement parks and video game stores, restaurants, national parks, etc, then they must contribute Something. That's what being a "Productive member of society" means.
Think of the 'Hide as a society. How long would it last if no one ever contributed any helpful posts? How do you feel about those new members who just rack-up posts to hit 100 to scam a few quick bucks? How do you feel about those who post just to complain and attack? Now what about the ones who start threads to help others, contribute valuable experience and good advice, post motivational pics... Even those who "lurk" for years even, just to make one worthwhile post when they have something helpful to share...
If the net-value of contribution is negative, then that person is a leech, a burden. Either the society deems it an acceptable burden, or it deems it too much and works to remove it. If the net-value of contribution is positive, then congrats, you're a productive member of society. Now, challenge yourself to do more when you can, and enjoy the freedom you've earned.
And now, pictures...
