Suppressors can't get my YHM cobra apart

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

Tell me about it,

If that suppressor is less than ideal for mulit cal use I could be talked into the mystic although it is more expensive.

Thing is as long as I can get the isis-2 apart I dont mind cleaning nasty 22 out of it. It wouldnt have to do double duty for more than a year. Once I graduate next year and get a full time job I will have the $$$ to get a decent 22 can.

How much 22 have you shot out of your yhm?

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

300ish

spend the money for a quality can.

here i am, with 2 cans, and am looking at upgrading already. and i have only had them for a month.

i have a YHM cobra, looking to upgrade to an osprey.

i have a YHM phantom, looking to upgrade to a TBAC.

and i want to ad a dedicated 22 sparrow.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

The whole nfa thing is just so damn spendy. Especially if youre a college student who makes 5k a year. I need a new hobby.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

well, after college, you can have all kinds of shit.

a guy that used to work for me, he was a huge factor in building my business, is graduating from penn state in may. he has an offer for $88k to start. EDIT: sorry, not an offer, he has the job upon graduation.

the whole NFA thing, even though it's BS, it is what it is. it sucks, but what are you gonna do. i am fortunate enough, that when i was waiting for my cans, i was working 14+ hours a day, 7 days a week, so i was able to keep my mind off of it.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

Any news? You contact YHM? They have any comment on you shooting 22 through it?

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

talked to YHM just now.

they said put the wrench it self in a vise, and use your hands to try and get the can undone. do not put the can itself in the vise.

i said i have about 1000 rounds thru it and that i WAY over used antiseeze and they said this is contributing to the problem.

if i can't get it, they said they would do it for free, unless they find it was neglected.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

it was a mother f8cker, but we got it.

i cut a 2x4 into 2" high chunks, put the wrench (it is a round tool with a male hex head that seats into the mono core) inside the pieces of wood, and then clamped them in the vise. i figured with the wrench tool being crushed inside the wood, the chance of the wrench spinning free would be reduced. my buddy and i just kept taking turns and he finally broke it free.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

damn it!

i was so excited we got it apart that i already started cleaning it and didn't even think to take pics.

it is leaded up for sure behind the baffles. not horrible, but noticeable. the threads are fine, actually. the inside of the tube has a bunch of shit in it still that i am going to try and get out this weekend.

it is mostly a hard white crust. i think the whiteness might be residue from soaking it in water for 2 days.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

the crusty stuff is a greyish white. like i said, i;m not sure if it is soap scum or lead.

some areas behind the baffle, are definitly leaded. trying to scrape of the crud, i could see that it was small piles of lead.

i had no idea that bullets did this.

Re: can't get my YHM cobra apart

rhino, what is your opinion of the greyish white crusty crud? lead or soap scum from taking a bath for 2 days? i changed the water every few hours. plus, i am sure the boiling had something to do with changing the color of the crud.

Honestly hard to know for sure.

We see this alot when cans are shot wet. The core is anodized so its not oxidization on the baffle itself. It may be a combination of the soot and the anti-sieze paste. Lead on baffles is generally a dark dark grey or a black color and very hard. Lead would not soften in water either, so my best guess is just a culmination of the take apart efforts and the shooting.
