LMT .308 MWS

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Shot my first F Class with the MWS today.

Shot a 218 1x out of 250. Should have been 228 or 227. Scorer missed one of my shots at 300.

Temp was about 20-25. Wind was 10-20. Snowing, and shooting points already had about 12-18" of snow in them.

Overall I'm happy with my first time getting past 200. We shot 2-600 today.

I was considering gun brokering this thing, but I think I'll hold off for a bit now.

This gun is an absolute sewing maching. I've never had a single failure of any kind with this gun. Hits at 600 were silly easy. There is really nothing more I could ask this thing to do.

I'm running a 16" chrome lined barrel with a Magpul MIAD and UBR with an Atlas out front and a Nightforce 3.5-15 NPR1 in a Larue LT104 on top.

After shooting in these crappy condition today, there is nothing I want to change with this setup.

It was a great feeling finally testing out everything I have carefully selected, and being rewarded with a great day of shooting.

Thanks LMT.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Magstang1-
Great to hear your LMT MWS performed well for you in the match. I am using mine next weekend at Mammoth Snipers Challenge. It has been impressive in two previous long range courses but this will be my first competition shooting with the MWS.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Happy New Year to all my fellow LMT .308 MWS shooters. I wish all of you good health, much happiness and great prosperity in the new year. May God bless you all.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Happy New Year Geld6!

I'll pass on the whole health, happiness, and prosperity stuff, and rather wish for all MWS owners round the world to be granted a 1200yd range within walking distance on their homes.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

When I chamber a round it is very difficult to extract. I also noticed when I extract it there is a scrape in the bullet. However the rifle shoots extremely well.

Also the finish on the bolts face is flacking off.

Anybody else having this problem?

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Difficulty extracting a chambered round, and then finding scrapes on the bullets is perfectly normal, and all MWS owners should experience this.

In regards to the flaking finish on the bolt is something that you should have replaced under warranty. Several of the earlier model bolts had this exact problem due to a flaw in the coating process. LMT has replaced everyone's bolt whom has requested it that I've heard about so you shouldn't have any problems with them on this.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Trident1982, I think you have never ever ever ever ever ever shot your rifles. They both look like show room floor models.

JK. I know you shoot but I can never get mine to shine like that. I think Krylon isn't working. lol Enjoy the year everyone after we succeed in squashing the bs from Washington.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Fresh off the work bench and about 99% done. I'll be sending the barrel out to Clint at Heavy Buffers for a brake install.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Fellas, I've been drooling over this thread for about a year. I've finally got the scratch to do a MWS (i know, perfect timing) and I contacted Ty at Midwest PX and he quoted me $3534.84 to my FFL for a Lm8 (slick side) 16" CL.

Is that where we are on these things??? I'm not concerned about the wait as much as the $$ jump!

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I never made as good of a decision as the one I made deciding to buy these rifles back in March (MWS) and first week in December (CQB).

I actually walked away from the CQB and went back within the hour to get it.

I truly hope you (and my kids) will be able to enjoy these rifles minus the madness.

$3500 in the current frenzy doesnt sound bad.

Please write your Reps.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Cross C,

Ty has always done right by me. Given the current state of affairs and availability, maybe that is a good price. I don't know. Every site I checked was "Out of Stock." LMT lists the LM8's as follows: LM8MRP® = MSRP starts at $2,030.79; LM8MWS® = MSRP starts at $2,998.71.

Good luck.

Stay on target,
Geld6

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Thanks guys!

It sure is a good price compared to one on GB going for 5k+ the other day! I've got a feeler out to Kentucky Gun Co as well so we will see how it all plays out

My reps have most definately been made aware, and a little DiFi gift has been sent to the NRA.

GREAT looking rig! Love those straight bow Geissele triggers.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Well after looking for a good 7.62 semi for a few years finally ponied up for the MWS a couple of weeks before the all ban talk started. Spent the next month or so picking up parts and pieces and now think I'm done for awhile. Started out as a 16" CL but found a new "used" 20" CL barrel, picked up a Spuhr 24moa mount and mounted a NF F1 3.5-15x50 MLR2, replaced the ambi safety with a Badger single side, dropped in a Geissele SSA-E trigger, added a PRS stock and Heavy Buffer & spring. Love this thing and works great! Only shot to 300 so far but hope to get out and stretch its legs in a week or so.

Its got to be pushing 17 pounds or so. The CQB feels like a toy in comparison.

My wife knows I bought one rifle. She fondled the MWS when it had the Sopmod on. Later she caught me in relations with the CQB. I was shocked she didnt notice the weight difference and get me red handed.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I have a 20" with a big NF scope but still suffering with the Sopmod, weighs about 14.5 pounds. I bought the PRS with tube and heavy buffer but never installed it, I guess that's about what it would weigh with it on? She looks oh so sweet but I have been afraid to change anything as the MWS has NEVER had a failure yet with any ammo, so I'm scared to change anything.

Looks damn good with the PRS tho...great choices in accessories!

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I can't even order a "rape-free" MWS from anyone and keep it under $3500. A "master dealer" of LMT said that they told him 1.5-2 years maybe, and he responded by saying, "I can't even order anything from you for awhile until you get this figured out."

This madness has left me unable to even order a reasonably priced gun! I would accept a 6+ month wait time as well....

...for those that have them, cherish them & if anyone has a good dealer that wouldn't mind settling for around MSRP, please feel free to pm

The way people are talking you may have to stand by the Green and pick one up after a Patriot falls.

I brought the rifle to the dealer to send it back to LMT he did some polishing in the BCG and told me to try it, it seems the bolt was sticking in the back position, I ran about 50 rnds of factory ammo then 25 reloads through, all without problem.

I loaded 168gn Sierra HPBT in 25 FL re-sized LC brass trimmed to 2.008", weight matched +/- 1gn, neck sized .334" with Varget ranging from 43.6gn to 44.4gn in 0.2gn increments. OAL was 2.8 OAL to Ogive is 2.213". The primer was CCI BR. The 5 shot groups ranged from 2" to .7" at 100 yards. The sweet spot seems to be 43.6 gn Varget. My chronograph was on the blink so I did not get to chrono the load, but I have 25 more of the 43.6gn load to try tomorrow, I can't figure out how to post pics here, but I will report back on the results and velocity (repaired the chrono).

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I ordered a 5.56 back in June 2012 and was told Oct, then Nov, then Dec, then Mid Jan 2013. Still waiting. Barnwood arms Ripon Ca.is who ordered it for me.

I tried to order some 10 round 5.56 mags from them last week. There mags are wanted by me because they are 20 round length but only hold the 10 to comply with my current state regs.

Usually getting parts from them is no big deal.

I was told they will not be selling any parts right now as everything is dedicated to complete rifle production.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I ordered mine in Nov 2012 just recieved mine today cost 2895.00. I have heard that they are 2 yrs behind so I feel very very lucky to have recieved it today I do know that my LGS has more on order and I like the fact they didn't mark up due to the crazies

Re: LMT .308 MWS

sgtnick,

Congrats on your MWS. I know you will love yours as much as I do mine. It is the big brother in my arsenal.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

I picked mine up from EE on Arfcom from a private seller about three weeks ago. I'm having the barrel cut down and a Surefire Brake attached to bring the OAL to 16".

I know this is not a very popular setup amongst the community here but it fits my use very well. I'm very happy with the rifle so far and cannot wait to shoot it. One gripe I had is with the safety/fire position markings on the lower receiver. It looks the "safe" position was chiseled out by a caveman. I know it doesn't affect the performance of the rifle, but for the price, I expected a little bit more attention to detail. Below is my attempt of posting a picture. As you can see, I'm still waiting for the barrel, BUIS, and Optics. This thread has been very useful. Thanks for sharing all the info everyone.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

sgtnick...congrats, getting a MWS atm is quite the feat.

len0475...look forward to seeing that new barrel setup, not sure why you think it will be unpopular around here, I'd love to try that setup!

Should look badass as well.

thanks trident .. I am thinking of ordering a 6.5 cred barrel for this beast once they start taking orders again. or am I crazy for even thinking of such a thing?

If you are planning to shoot long range, 6.5cm is the bees knees. Low recoil and flat shooting make it an awesome long range addition to the mws.

I've been running 6.5cm since November, about 750 rds total in practice and 2 big matches. Very pleased with it.

Re: LMT .308 MWS

Sportsman Warehouse sells the LMT MWS 308 for $2799.00 for the California Model.

Also 5% discount for military and LE.

Sportmans hasn't raised their prices. They just got a few in last Thursday (7) and that was the price I paid before Christmas.

I just got my LMT MWSE, mounted KAC Micro's and an Elcan Spectre DR 1.5-6x. Installed a Geisselle SSA-E and I LOVE this rifle. I ordered a Magpul UBR and a 18" SS .308 barrel but probably won't see those for a while. What a great piece of kit :0)

Because it's The Hide! I assume everyone is all about accuracy. Any who below is a couple of videos I took of my friend firing my rifle this past weekend.

Here's Brian being silly and demonstrating the effects of the Surefire Muzzle Brake. I can not be more pleased with this brake. I was really hoping I could try out a battle comp as well.

I do have a question though. How can I tell if my rifle is Chrome Lined or Stainless Steel?

Thanks,

Len

I wouldn't bother with the battlecomp unless someone at the next bench is complaining about the surefire's blast.
The surefire is way more effective as a comp.

Second that. I run a Surefire 211C brake and couldn't be happier.

Impulse purchase on a 16" Slick SS on Friday. Backordered on the PredatOBR and figure it's another year wait and couldn't believe my luck when one of these popped up at Rainier Friday afternoon. Thought about it for about 3 seconds. Pick it up Thursday.

Update on Feb 1st post, went back to Barnwood in Ripon ca to ask if any update on order from middle of last year. Staff called and was told last of April. When asked why gun keeps getting pushed back was told military and L.E. orders comes first. Hope to receive before changes that may prevent shipment to ca.
