Pretty much the same here. My state reps. sent positive, personal responses to an email I sent them. I don't know if you guys are aware but State Rep. Liz Pike has indicated she is going to introduce legislation to eliminate gunfree school zones in WA. That's intially why I contacted my state reps. I think we should all let our state reps. know we support this kind of legislation.

Now our our federal rep. are a different story, Cantwell sent a response saying she supports the 2nd Amendment but seemed to brag about the gun control laws she voted for in the past. Murray, strictly a generic form letter.

Re: SHWW Group

Just to add to my last post. I checked my email right after my last post and had and email from one of my state reps. Jason Overstreet. I believe we need to press all of our state reps. and the Governor to support this bill! Here a copy of the body of the email.

Hello Michael,

The unspeakably tragic events in Newtown and other locations around the country continue to make the case that more freedom, allowing the individual to protect themselves and those around them, is needed—not less. To believe that a law, such as a gun-free zone or ban on modern sporting rifles will protect innocents from those intent on doing great harm to them, is to fail to acknowledge that Connecticut has both. I will stand firmly against any encroachment on the law abiding citizen’s right to keep and bear arms. I swore an oath to do so.

Because I have taken an oath to ensure that the right to bear arms “shall not be impaired…” or “infringed,” I have co-sponsored HB 1371, The Washington State Firearms Freedom Act of 2013. This bill respects and solidifies the law abiding citizen’s U.S. and Washington State constitutional rights under both the second amendment and Article 1, Section 24, respectively.

The Washington State Firearms Freedom Act has four components:

The federal government would have no jurisdiction over firearms and ammunition that are produced and that remain exclusively within the boundaries of the State of Washington.

During the continuance of any state of emergency, when individual protection is needed most, neither the governor nor any governmental entity, or political subdivision of the state shall impose any restriction on the possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display or use of firearms or ammunition that is otherwise authorized or guaranteed by law.

Makes unenforceable any federal law, rule, regulation or order created after January 1, 2013 intended to ban or restrict ownership of a semi-automatic firearm or any magazine of a firearm, or that requires any firearm, magazine, or other firearm accessory to be registered in any manner.

Creates penalties for the violation of certain provisions.

Please show your support of the individual citizen’s constitutional right to keep and bear arms by contacting all members of the Washington State Legislature and asking them to stand for freedom by supporting this bill.

Persevero,

Jason Overstreet, Representative (42nd - LD)

Re: SHWW Group

Well I emailed our legislation about the gun laws and bills that are being intorduced, and while I don't vote with the current party that hold office, here is a response sent to me via our Senator Cantwell. This email, while still saying we need stricter gun laws, also shows that they are somewhat acknowledging the mental illnesses and the fact that we need to look at improving that as well...

Dear Mr. Osburn,

As you know, on January 16, 2013, President Obama announced a series of legislative proposals and executive actions intended to reduce gun violence. I applaud the President's efforts to close gun purchase loopholes and to create new tools for further background checks.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced a bill to regulate assault weapons (S. 150) on January 24, 2013. The proposed legislation bans certain military-style, semi-automatic weapons, and makes it illegal to produce, import, or sell magazines with capacity over ten rounds. The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where it is currently awaiting further debate and review.

In the past, I supported the original Assault Weapons Ban and the Brady Bill, as well as the Youth Handgun Safety Act of 1993, which prohibits juveniles from possessing or receiving handguns. I look forward to work with my colleagues in the Senate to strengthen responsible legislation to rein in gun violence. We need to work to close the loopholes in existing laws that allow criminals and children to gain access to firearms contrary to the law's intention. One example is the well-known "gun-show loophole" which allows people to purchase firearms at gun-shows without undergoing the background check required when guns are bought from licensed dealers. Lastly, I believe we must support increased gun-safety and gun-use education.

I support the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding Washingtonians who own guns. I also remain focused on addressing the deeply troubling violence in this country and making our state and our country as safe as possible for all people, including our most vulnerable citizens, our children. I believe both of these goals are important and can be simultaneously accomplished through common-sense gun laws and stricter enforcement of existing laws.

Along with addressing gun violence, making services for the mentally ill and their families more accessible will encourage those suffering from mental illness to seek needed care and support. Mental health care is a critical component of our healthcare system and an individual's overall health status. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately one in 17 Americans suffers from a seriously debilitating mental illness. I care deeply about mental health care and understand the important role behavioral health services play in the lives of both those who suffer from mental illness and their family and loved ones.

I got the same letter from Cantwell, and will have to check what Murray's response was. (I can only assume it's inline with the presidents diatribe). However, if we keep the pressure on with e-mails, snail mail, and phone calls, hopefully the results will be positive. For those that haven't seen the link to contact your representatives on the Second Amendment board, here it is.

Re: SHWW Group

I got the same from Cantwell. Murray had a generic, "thanks for contacting me" email, nothing specific about my concern regarding the stupidness currently being spouted by the left. I want to reiterate that we need to be supporting our state legislators also. Liz Pike pushing for eliminating gun free school zones and Jason Overstreet pushing a bill supporting our 2A rights. We need to fight this on a state and federal level guys.

Re: SHWW Group

Interesting... looks like Cantwell is slightly changing her tune(surprise, surprise).

Here's the responses I've gotten back so far, minus the opening and closing fluff, etc.:

Cantwell (01/18)

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
All Washingtonians – and all Americans – offer our deepest condolences to the families of the 20 children and six school staff members who were killed in this senseless attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with the community of Newtown, as its residents heal from this incomprehensible tragedy.

This horrific attack highlights several issues that must be addressed promptly in order to better protect against such inexplicable violence. <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">We need to get powerful assault weapons off our streets. </span> </span>And we need to strengthen services for the mentally ill and their families.
<span style="font-weight: bold">

</div></div>

Murray (01/18)

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">As a mother, grandmother, and former preschool teacher I was shocked by the tragedy that unfolded in Newtown. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victims whose loss is difficult to comprehend.

Unfortunately, this horrific tragedy was another in a long line of gun violence episodes that have ranged from places like Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Aurora to coffee shops in Lakewood to the corner of South Byron Street and McClintock Ave South in Seattle. These episodes have plagued our cities, our schools, and our shared sense of security. This cannot go on. As a society we need to come together to begin a real conversation on all the factors contributing to those horrific instances of gun violence, but we also need to take specific action to bolster our current gun safety laws.

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">There is no question that we can and should limit access to the assault style weapons of war that are on our streets and that are too often being used to kill innocent people indiscriminately. I have repeatedly voted for an assault weapons ban and will do so again as soon as we can get a bill to the Senate floor.</span></span>

But preventing tragedies like the one in Newtown will take more than just common-sense gun policies and enforcement. It will also take a renewed commitment to understanding and dealing with the root causes that lead isolated individuals to carry out these atrocities. At this moment, everything needs to be on the table for scrutiny.

Our nation is at a crossroads moment, and we must take the path that protects future generations from re-living these gun violence tragedies over and over again. It will take the courage of people with opposing views but a common purpose sitting down with one another and agreeing that the status quo is unacceptable.

</div></div>

Reichert (01/22)

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Over the course of the last year, the United States has witnessed tragic shooting events in several parts of the country, including the most recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. In response, some have called for legislation to address the online sale of ammunition as well as the possession of ammunition feeding devices. As you may know, several related measures were introduced in the 112th Congress. Rest assured, should these measures come before the House of Representatives for a vote, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind and give them thorough consideration.

I share your concern about gun violence in America. This difficult issue requires a thoughtful approach and consideration of many related issues, including the services available to those suffering from mental illness. Please know that I am already working with my colleagues on how we can address these issues, including increasing school safety. In a previous Congress, I offered an amendment that would have authorized resources to enhance and improve school safety by modernizing and upgrading school technology and infrastructure to ensure schools are properly prepared for the unthinkable (H.R. 2187). We have an obligation as Americans to make sure that our nation's youth are protected from harm's way - these heart-breaking tragedies must be stopped.

As a law enforcement officer for 33 years, I realize in a very personal sense just how dangerous weapons are in the wrong hands. I am concerned about the violence that results from criminal use of firearms and the incidence of criminal possession of firearms. <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">However, I believe the best way to deal with crime is not to limit the availability of firearms to law-abiding citizens, but to enforce our laws to ensure that criminals do not obtain weapons in the first place and are penalized for their misuse. These criminals must be held accountable to our laws.
</span></span>

I believe Congress has a responsibility to ensure that legislation holds up to constitutional scrutiny, and I am a strong defender of the Second Amendment, which permits citizens to keep and bear arms. As we move forward into the 113th Congress, <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">my colleagues in Congress and I must come together in a bipartisan manner to help find effective solutions to prevent these horrible tragedies from ever occurring without violating the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.</span></span> </div></div>

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

New SBR bill

The cast of characters increased to 32 people; sponsors: Representatives Blake, Hurst, Schmick, Takko, Hope, Kretz, Kirby, Kristiansen, Overstreet, Tharinger, Nealey, Van De Wege, Wilcox, Klippert, Chandler, Buys, Warnick, Orcutt, MacEwen, Liias, Goodman, Haigh, Moscoso, Moeller, Taylor, Roberts, Short, Shea, Condotta, Sawyer, Fagan, Sells. 14 of 32 are Democrats. It was mostly Democrat sponsors last session, it seems the Republicans are finally coming around.

The new words for RCW 9.41.190 include; <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It is not unlawful for a person to possess, transport, acquire,
16 or transfer a short-barreled rifle that is legally registered and
17 possessed, transported, acquired, or transferred in accordance with
18 federal law.</div></div>

SBR's are removed from the short list of firearms that are required to be registered prior to July 1, 1994.

Write to your Reps and Senators to encourage them to support the bill. If you know any police or licensed dealers, ask them to write or show up at the hearings. The police want and need this bill too.

Chris!

Nice job on the match - great location, relaxed pace, fun COF (except that damn hanging tire :)), good folks,... It was great to 'just shoot' rifles out to distance, BS with some great people, trade pointers, and admire some stellar rigs,... LOTS-o-fun! Thanks again!

Re: SHWW Group

Chris, I echo what Ryan said, good course of fire, easy going, no pressure, excellent environment for a new shooter, great folks, what wasn't there to like. Oh the location, well on the banks of the Columbia, doesn't get much nicer than that.

Chris,

Just like everyone else has said, the match was perfect for a season starter!! The tempo was perfect, which made it alot of fun for new shooters. I can attest to this first hand as Jolyn had a blast, and Shayne did also.

I concur with Ryan, damn near verbatim. The location was amazing, man what a gem. Got to meet alot of new people, which is always a blast. Reconnect with alot of folks who I havent seen or heard from in awhile, which is always fun!! And got the opportunity to introduce a couple of new shooters.

The COF was a blast, even the damn swingin tire!!

I cant wait for the next one. Thank you for taking the time to put this together for all of us.
