Two weeks ago I went to bed bed on a Sunday night. my 15 year old daughter fell asleep on the couch down stairs watching T.V. (there was no school on Monday).... At 3:45 am my daughter comes bursting through my bedroom door.. saying DAD! THERE'S 2 COPS AT THE DOOR AND THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!! So I grab my sweat shirt grab my 1911 and head down stairs...(I don't know if there cops or not)... When I get to the door there are 2 men standing on my back porch shivering because its -12 out side and they are clearly in a panic. they produce there badges and I take a good look at them. They are off duty town cops from Maryland. the bordering state from me. The town they serve in is about an hour west of me.

I live in the middle of town on the corner of a 4 way stop. there is a small one lain road that runs down the side of my house. next to that is a a set of dual rail road tracks. The tracks are clearly marked it is almost impossible to miss these things. What happened is the woman that was driving had turned onto the tracks and the car was stuck on them. the front drivers side tire was flat and the wheels were not even touching the ground. They explained what happened so I went up stairs put my cloths on and went out to help them. I have a toe rope because this is not the first time this has happened. I go out pull my truck up to there car and hook up the toe line while they stand there and watch. I here the one guy on his phone almost histarical saying to who ever is on the other end..JUST GET HERE NOW!! WE ARE IN SOME DEEP SHIT OVER HERE!! I hook them up and literally drag there car off the tracks. there is quite the drop off where the pavement ends and because there wheels are not touching the ground you can here the bottom of the car dragging across the tracks.

I get them onto the pavement and the woman parks the car next to my house kind of in my drive way. and I ask them if they need any further assistance. Thinking they can handle the flat tire this is when I realize the 2 cops are drunk and just trying to hold it together. so I asked do you have a jack? No we don't...OK do you have your people coming? NO! At this point I'm frustrated it 4am I have work in a few hours its -12 outside and all of my jacks are to tall for there V.W. so the 3 of us had to lift by hand the car high enough for the woman to slid my jack under it. I watch them struggle for a few minutes to get the hub cap off. at this point I just take over and change the tire for them.

While I'm doing they are talking and I here the woman say the G.P.S. told me to turn there so I just turned.. I finished changing the tire than asked if there driver was drinking as well they said no. she was not acting drunk and did not smell like booz. I quizzed her for a bit and figured she was a designated driver. The guy tried giving me a $20 but I just told them to go and to remember this the next time they find some one in a bad spot that just needs a bit of help. `

Re: off duty LEO

Awesome way to start the week! Good to hear the good stuff(your helping them, not to mention the late night knock NOT being persons of ill intent). Kinda uncool they used the badge as a key, though, but if your drunk, stuck, and 'tard nuff to be unable to change a tire/have a jack, I guess you use whatever means you have, to include soliciting and watching a good samaritan. At least hold the lug nuts for me, don't just stand there and watch...

Re: off duty LEO

Where the hell was it -12 in this state in the last ten years let alone the last two weeks? School was closed for MLK on 1/21. At 2:00am it was 30 and at 4:00am it was 28.

I'm sorry that you don't have any thing better to do with your life Than worry about the temperature. If you would like I can pull up like 3 more sites that all have different temperature readings for you. They all say it was cold.. so how about I just change my statement to it was cold out side. will that help your O.C.D.?

Re: off duty LEO

What does it matter what their profession is?
Would you have posted the profession if they were a McDonalds manager?

They most likely badged you so you wouldn't think it was a setup.
You said yourself that other folks have turned down the railroad tracks, what makes this one so special?

It is awesome that you helped them, I am absolutely certain that you would have helped anyone, regardless of their employment status.

Re: off duty LEO

A good story doesn't need embellishment. OCD has nothing to do with it. If you wanted to post fiction it probably would have been better suited for "Maggie's Drawers"

Re: off duty LEO

There profession does not matter it was just part of the story. this has happened 6 times in the last 4 years. I have posted several of the stories on other form's. I tend to not post stories on here simply because because of the over anal people on here. this happened over a week ago.. Oh wait better be more specific 12 days ago. would not want to embellish any thing.

and yes I would help any one and I have helped all. What I would not do is be a complete ass over a minor detail of any thing. I have better things to do with my life than that. Than again every one I know from Georgetown is like that I would not rely expect less.

I personally would not wake some one up at 4am for my mistake I would call a toe truck and pay my dues but that's just me.
