Two weeks ago I went to bed bed on a Sunday night. my 15 year old daughter fell asleep on the couch down stairs watching T.V. (there was no school on Monday).... At 3:45 am my daughter comes bursting through my bedroom door.. saying DAD! THERE'S 2 COPS AT THE DOOR AND THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!! So I grab my sweat shirt grab my 1911 and head down stairs...(I don't know if there cops or not)... When I get to the door there are 2 men standing on my back porch shivering because its -12 out side and they are clearly in a panic. they produce there badges and I take a good look at them. They are off duty town cops from Maryland. the bordering state from me. The town they serve in is about an hour west of me.
I live in the middle of town on the corner of a 4 way stop. there is a small one lain road that runs down the side of my house. next to that is a a set of dual rail road tracks. The tracks are clearly marked it is almost impossible to miss these things. What happened is the woman that was driving had turned onto the tracks and the car was stuck on them. the front drivers side tire was flat and the wheels were not even touching the ground. They explained what happened so I went up stairs put my cloths on and went out to help them. I have a toe rope because this is not the first time this has happened. I go out pull my truck up to there car and hook up the toe line while they stand there and watch. I here the one guy on his phone almost histarical saying to who ever is on the other end..JUST GET HERE NOW!! WE ARE IN SOME DEEP SHIT OVER HERE!! I hook them up and literally drag there car off the tracks. there is quite the drop off where the pavement ends and because there wheels are not touching the ground you can here the bottom of the car dragging across the tracks.
I get them onto the pavement and the woman parks the car next to my house kind of in my drive way. and I ask them if they need any further assistance. Thinking they can handle the flat tire this is when I realize the 2 cops are drunk and just trying to hold it together. so I asked do you have a jack? No we don't...OK do you have your people coming? NO! At this point I'm frustrated it 4am I have work in a few hours its -12 outside and all of my jacks are to tall for there V.W. so the 3 of us had to lift by hand the car high enough for the woman to slid my jack under it. I watch them struggle for a few minutes to get the hub cap off. at this point I just take over and change the tire for them.
While I'm doing they are talking and I here the woman say the G.P.S. told me to turn there so I just turned.. I finished changing the tire than asked if there driver was drinking as well they said no. she was not acting drunk and did not smell like booz. I quizzed her for a bit and figured she was a designated driver. The guy tried giving me a $20 but I just told them to go and to remember this the next time they find some one in a bad spot that just needs a bit of help. `
