Looking to hear some insight on shooters who have shot both of these guns. Application wise looking for mid size game from 200-600 yards and just shooting out to a 1,000 yards max. Maybe one day put a new stock, true/accruize, etc but pretty much factory with decent glass to start out with. As far as caliber goes the .308 is the major caliber I know both have. Would be nice to have it in 6.5 but not sure if both models offer that.

Thanks.

Can't go wrong with either, and this is coming from a savage fan. I would say that the savage is more "gtg" out of the box and is "shade tree gunsmith" friendly. Any savage can be re barreled without truing the action and perform exceptionally well. Most Remingtons will require truing of the action before a gunsmith will re barrel it. Oh, and a savage can be re barreled by the end user with minimal tooling required in most cases.
Down side to savages is the custom market is far more limited than the Remington. But still there are options.
If you plan to customize your rifle big time, and in the near future I'd recommend Remington. If you're a do it yourselfer and are interested in learning more about how a rifle functions and want to do some customizing yourself I'd say go savage.

My vote goes to Savage... period. I have owned many different rifles, from many different manufacturers. Savage rifles have been by far, the most accurate rifles I have ever owned or shot.

Can't argue that. I have a Remington adl in 223 that is as accurate as they come for a $400 rifle. But oh my god is the action a pita to cycle. Never had a savage this rough. Still won't sell it though.

I am interested in the Savage v Remington battle. I have an M4-2000 suppressor for 223/5.56 and i really like the look of a 5r, but it appears that the savage is actually the preferred gun.

I hate to have a gun threaded, and savage has a bunch of them that come with threaded barrels. I am going to have to post and ask the bolt action gods. All my training has a gas block and bcg.

Thanks for all the info. I knew I couldnt do wrong with either. And this gun will be shot more then my Savage 110 FCP HS in .338 LM so I will probably go with a Savage as well. My .338 is fun to shoot but I just need something a little cheaper to shoot so I can practice and shoot more often then I am now. Also, I don't know if its just me but finding reloading supplies mainly bullets for the .338 seems increasingly difficult but I guess that is any gun now. Just seems to me a .30 caliber bullet would be a little easier to find and definitely more options and cheaper.

Savage is just a simpler design. Bolt is easy to take apart, barrels are straight forward and easy to change.

For the money compared to performance side by side, the savage always wins.
