just a side not there is a tbac 30P-1 on its way for it

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

BlackOps Precision did a 20" 300WM recently...looked pretty bitchin'...try searching for "blackops special project" or something close to that...might find some good info?

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

I've seen a few guys on here getting out past a mile with a 20-22", depending on altitude.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

I'm waiting on my Black Ops Jaeger with 20" 300WM barrel. I will report back when I have time on the gun.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

I've been pondering a 20" 300 WSM build myself. There shouldn't necessarily be much difference in accuracy, but obviously you'll see a difference in fps. If you can get by with a powder that doesn't raise pressure too much but still offers decent fps then there might be some promise here, though you might experience some big fire balls at the end of the barrel.

I am getting 3133fps @ 7500' with Sierra 180's out of a 24" bbl, I figure if I can get 3000 - 3050 with a 20" bbl that will be right about the sweet spot

Im running a 22" 300WSM with a SWR Omega 300 suppressor. 155gr scenars are doing 3100 fps with no pressure signs in the rifle. GAP built, on a Templar action. Bartlein Barrel.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

Call Thunder Beast and see if their can will handle the pressure from a "short" barrel. The shorter the barrel the more pressure the can sees. I have one of those cans (love it!) and it really makes the 300 WM more fun to shoot. Shorter barrels can be more accurate than longer as they are stiffer. They're also handier for shooting out of trucks (hey I'm in Texas), but a 300 WM isn't really a handy rifle kind of caliber. More of a take your time and shoot something way over yonder kind of caliber. A 308 is better suited for 20" barrels and in a 20" barrel might not lose much to the magnum in fps. Muzzle blast without the can would certainly be much much more pleasant. In short my 300 WM has a 24" tube (Remington 5R stock) and I wish it had a 28"

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

Thanks suiscide I'm not quite sure why people were posting about 300wsm in here when it isn't the same as a 300wm but ill give Ryan a call at tbac and see what he thinks might be good because in the long run its all a out the long range accuracy

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

A shorty 300 mag with the 155 class bullets would be quite fun. Using it for hunting would be really fun! 155s at 3100fps would make short work of animals.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

And it would suck to f... Up a can. I have a 22 caliber can that's okay for 22-250 as long as its a bolt action (no fast semi auto fire) and has a barrel length restriction too. Shorter barrel rifles are good but in my opinion they're best with efficient cartridges

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

A friend just had ITD barrel a 700 at 18.5 or 16.5" and it is a shooter. Not sure what it is doing at distance, but he had it built and threaded for his can. Handy package of whoopass, if I may be so bold to say.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

Sorry, didn't mean to side track the thread, just thought that 300WM and 300WSM are very similar that it might be relevant. Good point about the pressure for a suppressor, I hadn't thought of that, but would like to put a can on it someday. Maybe it's best to stick with 22" as the shortest... some things to ponder.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

I have been considering a similar setup. Was told the fore-end on the LA AX chassis would extend past a 20" barrel. Im interested in what you find...

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

the handgaurd only measures from the recoil lug spot out 18 inches so i dont think it would cover a 20" barrel

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

BlackOps offers their Jaeger with a 20" 300WM barrel and it was a really nicely balanced rifle when I had it in hand. The performance reports from Mike and some other folks that got to shoot it were all extremely positive.

I have a 28" 300WM in process to do some ammo testing, once the testing is completely I'll be cutting it down somewhere in the 20-23" range.

Re: Who here has built a 20-22 inch 300wm

My 22" WM was good for 2875+ with 208's, which proved to be accurate to well past 2K yds. at 4500' ASL.

If you brake it, spotters will hate you. I never did get a can for mine, so can't comment there.

It'll be cool to see the velocity lost with the cut down. Be sure to let us know

Did you end up cutting that barrel down? If so, to what length and how has it performed/do you like it? I'm about to pull the trigger on a 300wm and I'm deciding between 22" and 24". Your insight would be welcome

Sorry to revive this old thread. I tried to PM you directly but it wouldn't let me.
