I believe this is the first Templar Version 2 action currently fielded. So George asked me to let everyone take a look. The rifle is set-up as my competition gun.

The version two matches the REM 700 footprint, has an integrated 20moa base/recoil lug and takes the AW mags! I’m loving it already. When I get some bullets I’ll be ready to rock!

Some Specs -
Templar v2 action, standard bolt face
Bartlein 6mm barrel finished at 26"
Manners MCS-T4A,
6mm Creedmore
Badger Bottom Metal

Re: TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Shannon are the AW mags reliable? With some sand/dirt in them? Or do they have to be spot less clean.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

And the best is: they shoot as well as they look!
Congratulations.
Good shooting.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Sweet: What is the barrel contour and overall weight?

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

That is nothing but encouragement for me to continue eating nothing but peanut butter and ramen noodles in my quest to save for a GA build. Very nice stick you have there.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

THANK YOU! goodbye ridiculous separate recoil lug. This makes it a much more attractive option for me personally and I think it will for others as well.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Good looking setup on a nice signature Deviant action .

My brother just got done with his build on a new Deviant as well and must say they are very nice actions .

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Can I ask what the future is for this action? For example, will there be new gap models with it included?

I believe it will be an upgrade option on all their current rifles.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Finbox,

The AW mags are more than reliable dirty. Most have issues with them because of poor fitment or when pressing against a supporting object. If the mag sits or is tweaked to low in the bottom metal it will fail to grab a round. Until now I used the AICS mags.

Grand,

Not sure of the exact weight and barrel contour. Very close to a sendero contour, probably around 15-16lbs. It's built to balance well in all positional situations.

Jon,

George already has it listed as a upgrade for all of his rifles on his website. Last time we talked he said the first production order had shipped.

Looks like a Tubbs Contour Barrel.

I suppose imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....looks like Defiance's take on a Surgeon.

you mean imitaition. But hell yeah it will be nice to see some competition for an action with these specs. maybe it will get the price down.

Exactly what I thought.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Really! It’s too bad what was supposed to be an informative thread somehow turned into a few folks attempting to take some cheap shots and stir the pot. Better prudence would have dictated you all to start your own comparison thread. You could have got your digs in and then felt better about your purchase/loyalty without the immaturity.

Fellas- Surgeon makes great actions. I shot and won quite a few national long range precision matches with GAP built Surgeons. When they came out they offered a nice, complete integral action, but by no means were the first action/firearm for offer such features. Times are changing and so is our gear, shooters want more thus driving the market for improvements.

There are improvements and differences in both actions. Magazine cut out and extractor to name a few. I wonder if/when surgeon ever made these changes if the posters would have the same “imitation” comments back the other way? Or would it just simply be a nice upgrade or update to give the community what it wants?

Frankly the posts show a level of short sidedness and inexperience that is not necessary or productive. The community should be encouraging developments and improvements as we only benefit from it in better gear, choices and in cost savings. The Templar v2 does just that. It’s arguably a better product by offering more/improved features that shooters want at a lower cost. It is really OK. Surgeon will be fine. If their market share suffers, they will lower their cost, improve their product and/or develop new ones. Improvements benefit the manufactures and the community, we should embrace it.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

One trend I've noticed is newer actions are beginning to accept both AICS and AW mags. The Templar V2, Black Ops 911, and SAC11 actions all have this feature which I love. It'll be interesting to see if Surgeon jumps on board as well.

It's personal preference, but I would rather have a shorter double-stack mag over a longer single-stack. I originally had been dreaming about my next build being on a Badger action, but now there are a lot more great options!

except everything about it is better than a surgeon

no cast bolt
bolt is timed to the action
action is made of stainless steel
bolt has mini 16 extractor
can run aics or aw mags

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

Yea I love the shorter 10 round mags. That is the way of the future.

One of the main reasons I got a TRG was because of the short 10 rounders, I could never go back to the long mags.

It's nice to see George going this direction with the AW mags.

Re: GAP TEMPLAR Version 2 - SNEAK PEEK!

is defiance going to offer a action wrench?

What a douche comment. First, it's "imitation" not "intimidation". Next, go shit in someone else's thread.

Finally, everyone takes ideas and IMPROVES on them. That's called innovation. When it comes down to it they are all Mauser variants anyway.

That's a really nice looking piece. Definitely going on my next bolt build.

I'd like to upgrade my non typical order to the V2 but looks like I'll just have to order another GAP - maybe the Extreme Hunter 4S...

What velocity are you getting out of the 6mm CM? I am wondering how much more the bolt gun is getting compared to the gas gun. Thank you!

Nice!! I believe that's the same rifle George had at the SHOT Show.......I hope I wiped my drool off of it......grin!

Glen Harrison also builds a lefthanded version of that action. Top notch stuff.

Action looks great. Hell your complete build looks awesome lol! Cant wait to hear how it shoots!

My thoughts exactly. Don't forget much better machining and finish. IMHO.

Will you stay with the S&B 5-25-56 or go another route? Using the H2CMR reticle in the S&B?

You can get 3200fps with ease running the 105s. I'll run them around 3150. A lot of the team guys like them a little slower in the 2950-3050fps range.

I S&B is gone, but yes the H2CMR. Its got a Bushy TAC 4.5x30 now with the GAP reticle.
