Had to get a quote from Ryan (<span style="font-weight: bold">Osuarchitect</span> here on the Hide)for about 3K worth of steel targets for our PD's new firing range that we are working on.

Had Ryan design me a "HEAD" target that would mount on a 4X4 post like his others....gonna put it on a post 5'-6' tall to be at the right height....

Got the pic this morning from Ryan. He moved the bolt holes to where the eye sockets are to give a little more reality thru the scope....Have some of these figured in our quote for the PD, but have the first one coming to me personally for my range at the house! Should be here in about 2 weeks! Should be fun to shoot and a GREAT training tool.

Thanks Ryan....Big Dog Steel is GTG and definately willing to go that extra step to get you what you need!

Ryan turns out some cool top notch stuff!!! I'm bangin the crap out of his targets every chance I get. Want more but my problem is I want everything!! lol

Since you would be shooting between the eyes wouldnt it be better to have the holes on the chin. I can foresee those bolt heads getting hammered with bullets a lot. Love the desing though, should make for some fun shooting and cool training aid.

Bolts are cheap....realism is priceless! ...the hardened steel bolts can take quite a few BTHP rounds before they need changing. Have a hand-full of spares ready to go when needed.

That would be awsome with a t-shirt on a hanger hung just below the head. May very well be the next target on our range.

I sent Ryan some of our head drawings and photos we use for paper targets....I think this one was a computer generated head that resembles a brawler/wrestler type guy....

We have a headless scarecrow that is basically an old pair of jeans, rubber boots, and work shirt that is filled with expanding foam...gonna be placed under the target for added reality.

Actually a CNS target that you could mount a cardboard IDPA target to would be great. Put it on one of those dropping rigs so you put holes in the target but it doesn't drop till you hit steel. That would be a good pistol target.

I saw some requests for a template, and figured I would see if I could help ya'll out really quickly. It's nothing fancy, but I believe it should work for what you need. I did take the time to try to make sure that it's quite anatomically correct (I'm a biologist) or dang close, because I know it's something that you gentlemen will be training with to save people's lives. The cerebellum sits directly behind the pons and medulla, and extends to just a little above the pons.

I know most of you don't need directions on how to use a template, but I figure it'll end up passed around the net and some people may need directions. I've made it so that it should fit very closely to the size ya'll listed. It is exactly 6" across, although it's about 1/4" too tall (top of brain should still be on head). That's why I listed that you may want to use the chin and ears for reference. I did not leave a cutout for the bolts, so that after you paint the target, they will still be shiny and appear as "eyes". I imagine you can place this on a piece of cardboard and cut you out something that will work well. I imagine just the ears and up to the top of the head would work fine and not take up too much space.

I'm not someone that does this type of shooting as a profession, it's just my hobby. So if ya'll have any suggestions, changes, or need it in some other sizes, let me know. There's a picture of just the brain over the skull, and then with it filled in as a template. If any of ya'll use the template, please post up some pics of one painted on some steel, I'd like to see how it works. Hope that helps gentlemen.

Thank you for the compliment on the template OSU and Lobo. I normally wouldn't bother with this stuff for just anybody, but I know it might help you guys out in serious training. Let me know if there's any tweaks some of you would like to see, I'll be more than happy to change things up if ya'll need them or would like it to be different.

Just putting some things together and wrapping up the last skull target group buy. I will be starting a group buy on the Head targets Tomorrow, 04/30/2010. I have decided to produce them in our Premium 1/2" Thick AR500. To simplify things the targets will ship with the bracket, template and mounting hardware.

The total price for the target, bracket, template and mounting hardware will be $120 shipped CONUS.

Yep....I got lectured for having multi-racial head targets....I just printed out photos I found on the internet....Had 5 or 6 white males, 1 white female, 1 hispanic male, and 1 black male.....I couldn't figure out what the big deal was....I was just being realistic and varying what I saw thru the scope....It was "suggested" I get rid of the minority targets......Have my own range at the house now so I CAN SHOOT WHAT I WANT!

Love it... any plans to make a "flipper" bracket ? If you put such a bracket atop a 4x4 so the head sat above the post... I bet a clever guy like you

could figure out a bracket to have the head tip back when hit and then flip back up when hit... sort of ala prarie dog. Visual confirmation of a no question hit when at long range...

What are these like when it comes to the ricochet?? Are they suitable for pistol use and, if so, at what range are they safe??

Not a CNS template, but I made this(from that image) for a high contrast face that could easily be cut out as a stencil.
