I am trying to install Quickload on an Imac running Windows 7 via Parallels. So far no luck, it goes into an error mode each time I try to run Setup. I can talk to Neconos on Monday, but was hoping someone here might have found the way...any suggestions?

your gonna need a windows 7 compatible CD, they will send it to you

or you could create a virtual machine with a version of windows that your current disk will work with

Use Xquartz http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

I am no mac expert, just got one this year. Program works fine, just navigating back to the quickload file later can be a challenge. Once you install it, the wine icon will appear at the top of your browser screen, and you can use task manager from there.

I use the same program to run "on target" as well

I am running Parallel on a Mac Book Pro with Windows 7. Quickload installed fine and never had any issues.

Thanks for the confirmations that it is possible, and the recommendations. It appears that Parallels maps the CD/DVD drive as a Network drive in Windows. The software (V3.8.0.1) requires that setup run from a CD drive. At any rate, that's the error message that pops up when I run Setup.exe. I suppose this helps in some way to keep illegal copies from proliferating via download.

I'll call Neconos in the AM to try and find a workaround, and will post the outcome here.

Still no luck. The ISO mount is not getting the green light to install. It does shows up as a CD drive instead of a network drive, and it does Autorun, but I'm still getting the error message "The programm (sic) has to be installed from CD-Rom drive! C:\Windows\SETUP.LST". Then it uninstalls the initial installation files. Maybe Version 3.8 has some more onerous installation code.

The disc I have shows 3.8.0.1. I'll try another ISO, and a different Virtual CD, then I'm going to go do something productive!

I just sent Neconos an email and will see what they suggest.

Thanks for the guidance!

Problem solved. Creating the ISO was key, so thanks Adam. A virtual CD-ROM drive typically shows as a BD-ROM for some reason, and Quickload did not want to install from that. I ended up going into Parallels Configuration and adding a CD-ROM drive to the Hardware list, and configured it to read directly from the ISO file. Relaunched Windows and it installed without a hitch.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Glad you got it. Have you used this program previously? I have had mine for almost a year, and am just now starting to learn some of the many things it can do---nice program!

This is the first time I've used Quickload. I started doing research to begin reloading last summer, and over time it seemed like most of the unanswered questions I had might be resolved by this software. There are so many gaps in the load data offered by the various manufacturers. This program offers the opportunity to test and build high quality custom loads relatively safely.

For example, I want to build a load for .45ACP using Barnes' 185gr TAC/XP. Barnes offer two options for this bullet...Ramshot Silhouette and Longshot. I thought VV N320 might do well, but was hesitant because this all-copper bullet is extremely long, indicating more potential for excess pressure with less powder. After running the numbers, Quickload indicates that Silhouette burns much less efficiently than VV N320, like 87% vs 98% for near-max loads at similar pressures. Without the program, I would not have known where to start, nor stop, with the VV. (Stay tuned for pictures of my mangled digits strewn about the line.)

Quickload looks like it will be a lot to learn, but extremely valuable. I'm reminded of that phrase "The more I learn, the less I seem to know." Love the old school interface...very retro!

Yes, It does show one how much one still has to learn....
I love the program, the more I learn it, the more I love it...
I find it to be conservative in many areas when compared to Loading Manuals. This gives me a measure of confidence when doing load work-ups, as I think it would be unusual for QL load to be over pressure. Not saying you don't need to work up the loads still...
I read a paper by Chris Long on Optimal Barrel Time, and the quest for accuracy. I think if you do a search for it, you can find it on the internet, or you could PM me and I'll send a link from elsewhere in my computer. Anyway, QL has functions to help determine Barrel Time, which can be used in conjunction with the calculations for OBT nodes to help you find accuracy loads for your rifle without all of the ladder tests. Still would want to do some testing, but not the entire gamut. I have yet to fully test his theories, but have gotten some positive feedback from deadshot on Chris's work. If you want, I can update you once I have tried the test shots I have "developed" using these calculations. I am interested to see the results myself.
I do wish that it had a way to get updated powder/bullet charts---maybe it does and I just don't know it.
Have fun, and be safe,

Thanks Tim. I would be interested to see what kind of results you get calculating OBT nodes vs field tests. Maybe someday a re-barrel will come with that info. Then again, I enjoy the field time. Not much else to shoot at in the off season!

Does load show as a virus on your computer? Norton see's it as a virus on my machine for some reason?

I'm running Quickload v3.6 on an iMac with VMware with no issue. Does your version have Hodgdon CFE as a powder choice?

I use VMPlayer on Win7 Home Ed. to load Win xp. It costs nothing and takes no time to set up.

The license holder for QL wants over $50.00 for a CD that runs on Win7. Seems they should provide a free fix since they should have assumed this would be a problem with all the advance notice before the release of Win7. Especially, considering how much it cost to begin with. "Oh, my new computer has Win7 and QL is the only program that won't run!" Nah, I don't think so. For those that don't have QL. It is not all that. You can survive without it.

Running mine on ubuntu via wine

Wine makes it pert simple to install, thou sometimes you have to load via cmd line thru virtual drive as installer not always detected

VM or Wine both work, my preference is Wine.
