I am looking at getting a Trijicon ACOG for an M4gery build. The 2 that I am looking at is the TA31F and the TA31RCO. Both are 4x32 with the Chevron reticle and meant for the 5.56 cartridge. Does anyone have any experience with one or the other or maybe both? Is there any real difference in performance?

From what it looks like there might be a slight difference in the reticle, and the RCO comes with a kill flash and a couple more accessories. The chevron makes for a good quick acquisition while still offering a good precise point. You can't really go wrong with an ACOG.

I have a M150/TA51 on one of my M4's and its, well.......an ACOG..!!! Neither the best, nor the worst. By that, I mean it's not the best suited for close in work and not exactly the best suited for long distance. It's fine for out to 100 to 200 meters though as long as your not expecting utmost accuracy. It's a battle site and for that I guess it fulfills it's role.

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan (as a civilian now) and I still see a crap-load of ACOG's on top of M4's right along with the Aimpoints so they are indeed still being used as fighting glass.

i have the ta01nsn on my one, had a rcoa4 on a 20" set up don't like the 300 aim as its covered by the cheveron and hard to pick up quick in timed events. the sas over here uses the nsn and the shooting team(augs). have a spare m150 lying around.

cheers kiwiaug

I am a big fan of ACOGs. Like was stated before, it is a good general purpose sight that will withstand almost anything. I wouldn't push a 4x acog past 300m though. I used a TA01NSN for a while during my deployment. I have since switched to my EOtech, but only cause it is better for what I am doing.

I've used an acog ta31 something. It had the green chevron. I personally own an ta01nsn and I love it. I prefer the reticle over the others, as I find it simple and highly effective. I was having consecutive hits on soda cans at 200 yards just last week. It's all preference though, get whatever makes you happy. But as far as I'm concerned, I'd take my nsn over any other acog

I have the TA11J-G which is the 3.5x version with longer eye relief and the same crosshair reticle as the TA01NSN except it has daytime illumination at its center from the fiber optic. I too prefer the crosshair reticle for more precise target shooting. It has woked out well. i can reach out fairly consistently on a 8" plate at 300 meters with my SCAR-16s with decent ammo.

Before that, I had one with the donut reticle. It was't the best design imo. The ring was too thick and the opening in the middle was too small to use as a see thru. I'd rather have the Chevron or Crosshairs over it.

So far nobody I've met at the my range owns an ACOG, but I do see pleny of FACOGs. They're always really impressed when looking thru the real thing.

Eye relief is huge IMO in favor of the 3.5. It's bigger and heavier but the eye relief is so much better, especially if using as a "red dot- binary vision". I have the cross hairs and chevrons, as stated the cross hairs are better for precision. I shot my 3.5 with red chevron on steel to 500 on Saturday. Only challenge is wind. Great battle optic.

What do you guys think about the ta31h? I do not have an acog yet but I was planning on buying one and I was really having a hard time deciding which one to get..

The 4x32 have quite possibly the worst eye relief I've ever seen in a magnified optic. Get a TA33 if you must have an ACOG

Is there an optic you think is superior to the acog?

Something that is good out to 400 yards. also will work for CQB

I will second that the eye relief is significantly better on the 3x models than the 4x. I've owned several models of both, now I only own a 3x for this reason. Great scopes overall.

I have 4 ACOGs. I just love them. No scope comes even close in the combo of compactness, glass quality, and Field of View (FOV). 4x ACOGs have a FOV as big as Magnified optics with 56mm objectives! Only negative anyone can say about ACOGs is the short eye relief, however, if you are using a AR15 type that shoots .223, this is not really an issue for ex Military guys because we were taught to shoot NTCH (nose to charging handle) with Irons. As long as you shoot NTCH with ACOGs, you will always have the proper sight picture.

If I had to nitpick, I would chose TA-11 Series (3.5x) over all others as my favorite. TA-11x eye relief is 1" more than 4x ACOGs (TA31x, TA01x), but it feels like it is much more. 3.5x ACOGs are great for .308s as the extra eye relief is needed for the extra recoil. Only negative of the TA-11 is the heavier weight and the slightly smaller eye relief.

My favorite reticle is that of the TA-01NSN. It is the easiest to use and is most accurate,. however TA01NSN does not have BAC. BAC is a very usable for CQB, and with a front scope cover, is almost as good as a red dot.

I do NOT like the TA-33 ACOGs. FOV is half of that of the 4x ACOGs, it is like you are getting half the picture for almost the same price. Also it sits way too high (with the stock mounts).

To me there is no real difference with the TA31F and TA01RCO, both reticles are basically the same. However, the RCO does have safety wire so you can't lose the caps, and it offers no tools adjustment. Which does not seem like much for the price difference, but it is very nice to have. RCO also comes with a cool looking kill flash.

My 4 ACOGs, Top to Bottom
1) TA11F on AR10 16" Rainer SuperMatch Barrel
2) TA01NSN on LWRC M6A2
3) TA31RCOM4 on Noveske N4-Light
4) TA31F on Walther/Umarex/Colt .22LR

Horse shoe reticle is awesome foe 3gun and hunting for small frame ar platforms.

It sounds like I need to look at the 3.5 power Acogs

While the eye relief is only 1.5" on the 4X ACOG's I have never had a problem with any of the 4 I own. I have the TAO1, TA31F, RCOM4 and the NSN. My favorite is the TA 31 and least favorite the NSN.

elcan C79, thats what i have gone back to, with a modded base from a Canadian shooting team member. had us optis sn12,ior m2, rco and elcan the best!

had a look at the NZ issue acog tonight, what a over the top retical, way to many lines and ticks, has a rmr and irons on the left side. with ss109/mk262 at the bottom of retical.has a 300 cross hair with a t above for 100m zero.lots of aim off ticks that will cover target.

I've got the RCO and I like it but it has a fair few flaws

I prefer the 4x for .223, as shooting NTCH is natural for me. However, I have found that most people prefer the 3.5x because it is naturally easier to use (for them).
