Question on group size.

I am not really one to shoot groups, as I would rather shoot steel at distance. But I got a new rifle and did some load development at 250 yards, found a load I liked and loaded up some more roads to sight the rifle in as I am going ram hunting this weekend. The closest range only has 100 yards so I just went there to sight in. The benches there aren't the best and you don't have too much room. Once I got the gun sighted in I decided to shoot a group at 100 but I did so with the last twenty rounds I had left. There are a lot of rifles here that can print some small five shoot groups, but what would yall say is a good size for a twenty round group.

In load development my five shot group was .96 inches at 250 yards or .36 moa
Today my twenty round group was .657 inches or .62 moa.
Is this a good group for twenty rounds?

Thanks

Walter

I would be very pleased with that twenty round group. Were the shots consecutive, or did you let the rifle cool between mags?

It was two mags one right after the other, the only time between them was the time it took to change the mag get back on target and shoot. Although I was not running the bolt super fast I would shoot take my time to be on target and be sure that I was making a good shot.

I'll take that group even if you doubled the size.
Consistent shooting, excellent job.

That's a great group considering it's 20 shots. I don't know if there is a formula for it, but every shot above and beyond 3 shots makes it harder and harder to keep the group tight. Just look at the difference between 3 and 5 shot groups. If I went off my 3 shot groups, I'd be a hero, as would most of the rest of us. Add those 2 other shots and it really starts to bring the rifle and shooter's capabilities into play. Add 15 additional shots and the odds for a few fliers goes up considerably. Shoot those shots consecutively with the barrel warming up, and holding that group gets even harder. All things considered, 5/8 MOA with 20 shots is fine shooting by you and the rifle sir!

Nice shooting for sure! I wouldn't let that thing out of my sight. It's a laser beam for sure!

I think it is an outstanding group. Congratulations! I feel very happy if I can keep 20 rds. in a 4" @ 400 yards.
