Looking for something around $500 that will be servicable. AO is important because it will be shared by a 308 700 LTR and my cz 452 in 22lr.

I want something I can crank up unreasonably high as I already have a decent 1.5-8x for hunting. This is for bipod use.

its available in mil dot, bdc, and v-plex....Prolly stay away from the mil dot since the turrets are MOA(dont know why they do that...)

That scope is usually considered one of the best buys for a budget long range scope. Of course it'd be nice to have matching turrets, I wish they made mil adjustments on that model. I'm pretty sure that scope is calibrated to be mils @14x. Some guys run them at alternate powers to equal moa intervals; to be an moa-dot reticle. Dial it up til you can measure a ruler at 100 yards to equal 5 moa, or down to equal 2 moa. Mark a line on the power selector, then you have a poor mans matching reticle.

thats a pretty brilliant idea you done gave me there. Much appreciated! maybe I should get the mildot then hrrrmmm....

That was the first scope I used for long range shooting. It was 100% mechanical wise, dialed spot on, and had decent glass.

I put up a short unboxing style video of my Viper a little while ago on youtube that you might find interesting. Mine has a 44mm objective instead of the 50mm but the turrets and parallax adjustment will be identical.

thanks for the suggestion might be a good deal if I lived in the US. My other scope is actually MOA so I like the idea of sticking with MOA- and maybe just use the mil dots as an moa reticle using the suggestion above.

GUYS Im glad we had this talk thanks.

I had one a while back and it is one hell of a bang for the buck. The clicks are solid and the glass is awesome. If you are on a limited budget and or just getting started in long range this is a great scope. Mine had the mil dot reticle.

I run the 6.5-20x44 V-Plex Wide model on all my bolt rimfire rifles which I routinely shoot out to 200yds. From a 50yd zero that is ~24.0MOA up. I routinely dial out to 200yds and anywhere in between and have never had an issue of returning to zero or other sort in two years. Glass is good though the eye box can be a touch small at 20x. I run the 6.5-20x50 with BDC on a .243Win varmint rifles as well. In fact nearly all my glass has been converted to Vortex in the past 3 years. Good quality and price coupled with outstanding customer service and a 100% no BS lifetime warranty is pretty hard to beat. ;)
