I am a skilled fabricator with a passion for shooting. A few weeks ago some very close friends who are all profesional machinests and programers came and asked if I would be interested in starting a firearms parts business with them. (we have talked about it for years but are now getting off our butts) I am to be the business/ marketing end of things. (I enjoy buying guns and shooting them untill I am bord then selling or trading for something better, and have done quite well going so). So the plan is to start by making some custom 80% lowers and some uppers. I feel this is as dumb idea, I just don't think there is a big market. So I am looking into an FFL. here is the deal I know how to apply, and I was told the cost is $200 or so. but I also know there is several different kinds, and that our government is horrible to work with if something is not absolutly perfect. I am looking for someone who has recently gotten theirs to help.

What kind of FFL do I need to produce lowers and maybe other guns?
How long does this process normally take?
no plans to make class 3 items.
Is this the rout I should be taking?
Are there any hidden fees I should know about?
any other thoughts?

everyone else I could really use some ideas for things you would like to see made. we will be running full time in two months time and we have a 4 axis horizontal cnc mill.

You're going to manufacture, then you need an 07. Nothing extra. Best of luck, as that market is already saturated with a lot of very well known brands.

With the 07, which is what you need, you will also be on the hook for ITAR fees. Look into it and decide if this is really the path you want to travel.
