Sniper’s Hide Cup Official 2013 Sniper's Hide Cup 5/23 - 5/25

For anyone wondering, the check-in and demo tent area will be at this "virtual" address 440 Wagon Hound Rd, Douglas, WY.

This is not a real address but if you plug it into Google Maps it will display the right spot.

2. Don't leave your ammo at home

Starting with the lip already huh Jon. Maybe ill "forget" to bring the extra mag and pouches you asked me to bring for you. :)

Finally a match i can drive to :) See you guys there! I'll bring a load of stuff for the prize table.

How often do we need to use our pistol? Just curious if it can live in my pack or if it has to be on me all the time.

Oh boy, I hope I dont regret running the 6.5CM over the 7RSAUM for this one. Zak can you give a rough idea of the MAX range? +-100yd is adequate

We Set up several targets beyond 1000 yards .... a 308 175gr running at least 2600fps should be right at the edge under current conditions.

It's a great mix of Near and Far.... as well some nice natural positions will be necessary. Not everything is visible from the prone.

We spent the entire day in Douglas until just before Dark setting up new stages. Similar but very different from last year, you definitely can't use last years data even if you kept it.

I will say this, I have located and ranged every target we set up with the following:

10x is a bit limited, but I was still able to find everything, we did not go out of our way to "hide" anything, but remember no targets are marked or painted. (there are 2 that are, but that is it)

Oh boy, my 168 grain SMKs are gonna be struggling. My scope is maxed at 1200 yards even, I'll just have to hold over beyond that. The rig did well at 1120 Friday, now if I can just figure out how to stay cool under pressure I'll do alright!

I must have just missed you guys. I drove over from Casper to have a look at where the event is to be held. Didn't see anyone, but it was almost sundown.
Should be fun.
I there a good spot to park a 5th wheel?

I'm looking forward to taking a break from the grind and come play. This is probably my vacation for the year. Glad you guys are setting up the long stuff too.

Thanks for the info...plugging in the 308 data into my Shooter App, I'm assuming the max range is very close to 1200yards. I hope those are VERY LARGE targets!

There is a pretty generous mix of big and small targets, some stuff does border on 1/2 MOA at distance though, while other stuff might be a bit more than 2 MOA closer in, it just depends where you are.

Just wanted to get a read on if there are going to be any food vendors set up? Going to be camping with a buddy, and we are just planning out the trip. Should we just plan on going into town for dinners etc? No doubt we will be bringing up some food...just trying to get an idea of 'how much of what'. It would be great to stay onsite for lunches and not have to fire up the grill.

Anyone watching the 10 day weather forecast, wind, windy, more wind. Could be interesting!

I was under the impression that there was nothing but wind in WY. Last year the signs on the highway warned trucks with small trailers should be carefull due to the 50mph gusts. If that is the case your wind hold could end up being greater than you elevation hold. LOL!

LongRifles, Inc. Will be there the 22nd-24th. We will also be turning a pig into candy via the smoker for those interested.

We are donating a rifle this year. Our first for The Hide Cup. In fact I just finished bedding it about an hour ago. Little stub barreled 308 M700 action in a Manner's T4.

PacTool donated a Stealth DBM for the project.

Looking forward to getting out of the shop for a few days!

I better bring a bigger booleet then. I wonder if 250 rounds of 338L is gonna exceed Delta's 11 lbs rule.

Don't they have a round limit as well? I wanna say like 150 or something. I could be way off but I thought read that somewhere.

Off Delta's website, however, I plan on calling for some clarifications: such as, if the pistol can be packed in the rifle case:

Shooting Equipment

Shooting equipment is allowed as checked baggage only. It must fit within the very specific criteria that we outline below.

  • Declare to the Delta representative that you are checking a firearm.
  • Declare the existence of a firearm to security personnel if there's a security checkpoint before the Delta counter.
  • All firearms must be declared by the passenger to a Delta representative at the main ticket counter.
  • Present firearm(s) unloaded and sign a "Firearms Unloaded" declaration.
  • Firearms must be packed in a locked manufacturer's hard-sided container specifically designed for the firearm, a locked hard–sided gun case or a locked hard-sided piece of luggage. Handguns may be packed in a locked hard-sided gun case, and then packed inside an unlocked soft-sided piece of luggage. However, a Conditional Acceptance Tag must be used in this case.
  • Maintain entry permits in your possession for the country or countries of destination or transit.
  • Ensure small arms ammunition is packed in the manufacturer's original package or securely packed in fiber, wood, plastic or metal boxes and provide separation for cartridges.
  • You are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all Federal, State or local laws regarding the possession and transportation of firearms. For more information about this regulation you can visit the TSA website.
  • If you are transporting a firearm to the United Kingdom, a permit from the United Kingdom is specifically required. You must contact the United Kingdom for more information about securing this permit.
  • Ammunition in excess of 11 lbs. per passenger or that contains potential projectiles is not allowed.
Pistols and accessories must be included in one case and contain:

  • Pistol telescopes
  • Noise suppressors
  • A small pistol tool case
  • No more than 11 lbs. (5 kg) of ammunition
Rifles and shotguns must be packaged as follows:

  • One hard sided case containing up to four rifles, shotguns, shooting materials, tools
  • One hard sided case containing up to five handguns, one scope, tools
  • One bow and quiver of arrows and maintenance kit enclosed in a case or container strong enough to protect the bow and quiver from accidental damage
  • No more than 11 lbs. (5 kg) of ammunition
An excess baggage fee will apply if checking more than one gun case.

The wind is always here and I wouldn't trust tomorrow's forecast much less 10 days out. Who knows maybe they will get a forecast right one of these days.

Nice going LongRifle. Can't wait to see the rifle. You do some damn fine work.

I'll be camping out with the 5th wheel at the event site. Anyone camping in the area is welcome to use my grill for cooking.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Remember to bring sun screen and water. Event site is around 5000 ft.

Concerning the 11lbs ammo limit on airlines: Doing some math I see that my 6.5CM x 240 rounds is about 12 lbs, and that doesn't include pistol rounds. I'd assume they won't scale the ammo at the checkin counter BUT you never know what character you'll get. Maybe it would be best to ship the pistol ammo and a handful of the rifle just to be safe.

Advice? Could I ship to one of the match coordinators?

If you do you have to ship it to the Hotels in Douglas because we'll all be there by the weekend and you can't get the ammo here by Friday of this week.

We have a block of rooms at the Clarion but its name looked changed last weekend when we were there. Don't recall what it was, Douglas inn or something.

Zak,

Is this also the address to meet at for the "Train Up"? I'm booked for 1 day of guided trainup and would like to do it on Tuesday. Can I arrive at this 'virtual address' Monday evening, park my ghetto pickup/cargo trailer and spend the night? Will anyone be around Monday evening?

Thanks!

Are any more details going to be sent out to those who signed up for the trainup? I looked at the trainup page on Competition Dynamics website but there wasn't really much there in terms of time it all starts.

Ok, just wanted to make sure anyone who wasn't there last year knows where to go and when to be there.

No worries, the pointers should be up, if not I will stop at that center point and direct people.

Been putting together my POD 14.5" to let people demo the following optics:

USO 1-8x

Nightforce 2.5-10x 42

S&B 3-20x

Also during the MOD ARMORY Night Shoot I will be supplying two Kahles K624i's to use on the rifles.
