I just got in some 155 scenars, and I've found my LR (1K) load with the 175 SMK (45gr Varget @2.810" COAL/Win case, Fed 215 primer/ .3-.5 @100-1000yd) And the 168 SMK's shoot just as good but I have to use my turrets much more past 5-600yd, with 46gr of Varget. Both shoot .5" or better at 100 in 5 shot groups. I started working with the 168 Amax, and noticed it shot well but I had to play with my COAL and seat closer to the lands to get the same accuracy as the SMK's.
Now I have the 155g Scenars, and heard someone on here did alot of testing with this pill with several powders. I have my stand by Varget, H4895, BLC2, BenchMark, RL17. Any ideas on seating depth, powder etc? I'm looking for something I can push hard for 3-500yd and a .5 or better @ 100yds, for some groundhog shooting, since Jon Beanland won't have my 260 finished until next month. Any advice appreciated.

Well I just started working on a load for them yesterday. Loaded up 44.5gr of varget, wlr primer with .010 jump and got .189 moa out of my 3 testers. I would say keep the jump to a minimum if your mag will allow it. I read alot online before I started and the majority of people had good luck in the 45gr range. A few were running upwards of 48gr compressed but it would be almost impossible to fit that much in a lapua case in my opinion.

GHB you should run into a node with the 155 scenar around 46.5-47 of varget. I never got it to shoot well out of my tactical, so I moved on... my varmint loved 46.9, Hope your luck is different in the 5r.

Thanks again Ncoyote, as well as everyone. I always heard they needed a good kick in the pants, and I', running 46g for my 168's. What kind of vel were you getting from the 46.5-47g of varget? I'd like to push them to 2900 if possible. Also were you shooting them close to the lands, or jumping them? BTW I ran the 175's through a different chrono with my 45g load and was getting 2680fps, and the other was 2700+. I never imagined I could get above 2600 with a 20" tube, but this darn thing is just fast is all I can say. Was hoping to do some development this weekend, but like every weekend I've had so far, just flooding here. I plan to single shot load this round so if it likes em in the lands, that's where I'll put em.

BTW I only use Win cases in my .308's. I know Lapua is good stuff, and what I shoot in my 6mm's, PPC's, and BR's but I have seen no improvement from Lapua shooting steel at distance. I even loaded up some plinking rds using Fed cases not long ago, and 5 went into less than a 2" group at 300 yds. (1.65").

I played with both the 155 amax and scenar and was running 2715 and 2740 as adv, I forget which went with which. I was jumping from mag length and as soon as I saw the velocity I was getting with the scenar I discontinued using them in that 308 to save them for another where they performed great. So I didn’t play with them much too fine tune. The A-max was shooting great from the start but with that velocity I discontinued shooting them once I shot the 100 or so that I had. The Tactical sees a steady diet of 168 A-max or 175 smk's now for general target shooting and 168 berger vlds when I go after deer.

These jump just fine for me..

this winter . I was pushing them in my .308 5R..
With 43 grains of XBR 8208 and got 2 hits out of 7 on a balloon at 1000 Yards..

I couldn't get the balloon at all with AMAX's

I am currently trying for a higher node with the XBR.

I don't consider myself an exceptional shot

Kyle

I switched to 2000MR and enjoy the increase in speed and accuracy. The powder loads easy. Gonna try some in my LTR when weather clears.

The very first load I am building for my GAP gun will be Varget over 210Ms pushing 155 Scenars so I always love to see some threads on it. I went through the "reloading for .308" thread and plucked all the posts with scenars + varget if you want the data all together:

I posted a 155 scenar load with 2000MR in the 308 load thread in Reloading Depot. Check it out. Was able to push them to 3010 FPS out of a 24in 1:10 twist barrel. Looks promising...can't wait to do a full OCW test this weekend.
