Well I am in pure disbelief that something in this industry has been pushed back even more. Latest news is September for the BEAST. Hopefully it's not a production line flaw. Sometimes it sucks being the first guy on the block with the latest and greatest. I am actually ok with this one as I can't really afford to cough up the rest of the $3800 I owe the great guys at euro optic. Everything I ordered this year has been pushed back months... Most items it has happened several times. I wonder if they do this just to see how well something is going to go over.

I was talking to the NF guys a few weeks agoabout the BEAST trying to decide if I wanted to wait or go ahead and get something else. I asked if it could realistically be Christmas or 2014 before I got my hands on one and the reply was short and sweet, "Yes"...
I am not waiting.

How has it been pushed back again? Around SHOT show it was supposed to be a Q2/Q3 release...

September is Q3. I'm still waiting on my ATACR. Ordered it 3 weeks ago. Called bear basin and they said they currently have 35 of them on backorder as of now(!). They said they will likely only be getting 6 of them this Friday - luckily I'm near the top of the backorder list.
I wonder if the extreme demand for the ATACR is what's holding up the beast. I think it is part of it, cuz i was also told by them that they received notification from nightforce that they will be slowing production of the ATACR soon, possibly to be able to focus on the beast...

Awesome... gives me some more time to save for it and build a rifle to put it on! :D

That sucks! I have a BEAST on order. I really wanted to try out there new glass. Ive read about people having quality issues with S&B, but I might be leaning that way if its going to be next year before the BEAST shows up.

The BEAST is on track as scheduled for Q3 release to dealers that got early orders in. I can tell you that Hide Dealers were some of the first to secure orders for the BEAST at SHOT. ATACR is in high demand and by no means is production getting scaled back on the ATACR. The ATACR has proven to be way more popular than anticipated. We are a build to order company and there are associated lead times involved. Nightforce Dealers order way in advance to ensure that there is a steady supply of product being delivered to them. That is not to say that we do not have our hiccups like any other production oriented company. Hiccups are real and have to be dealt with in the best manner for us as a company and our customers. We like to think we do a good job at that when hiccups arise.
New Orders for the BEAST have been temporarily suspended as we cannot in good faith accept orders knowing that we have sold our BEAST production capacity through mid 2014. We thank you all for making the scope a positive success prior to its actual delivery. That tells us that our reputation of being Rugged. Reliable. Repeatable. is solid in the market place and we do not want to harm that by ever delivering substandard gear.

I'm rather positive that the NF Guys that were spoken to a couple weeks ago; their commentary to the question answered was taken out of context. If you asked them at that time "if I ordered one today, when would I get it?" The answer should have been most likely mid 2014 if you are a dealer ordering one - assuming we were taking orders for them. We do not sell direct except to Military and Law Enforcement. Your best bet to get one, is to buy one from a stocking dealer that has them on order. The dealers that got orders in before the temporary suspension will receive them in the order in which their orders were placed.

All of the families of Nightforce Optics thank our customers for supporting our brand! Without you, we would not be possible.

I was the first one to preorder at euro optic. The original projection was June. Look at midway. It still says June 6th. It doesn't matter to me though. The BEAST will still be the first to arrive out of all the orders I placed at the beginning of the year.

I got my order in early at EuroOptic also and I'm happy to wait. I think the wait will be well worth it. Sounds like NF is doing this right as always. Great company! I had thought about S&B also, but with their recent issues and only 2 year warranty, they seem overpriced, so would only consider a used one with DT turrets.

Lately it seems like every company has dreams that are moving faster than their production capabilities. My S&B 3-20x was destined for arrival LONG before it actually showed up in stores, and the same thing seemed to play out with the Vortex Viper PST line when it came out. It seems (maybe) that everyone is trying to beat their competitors to the punch, but the marketers are moving with more speed than the engineers.

How about an ATACR in First Focal Plane. And don't tell me that is the Beast because its not.

The ATACR has good glass already and i don't care for the bell and whistles of the Beast...

When an ATACR in FFP shows up, i'll be one of the first in line. :) If they could keep it a similar size to the current ATACR and keep the price down, it would dominate the market. :p Then again, it's not like Nightforce is hard up for business.

I have said the very same things. An ATACR in FFP around the $2800 range would definitely dominate the market. Sure, there will be those who are brand loyalists and wouldn't trade off their SB, Leupold, etc but for the most part, I believe they would easily steal sales from the competition and possibly bring down the prices across the board.

True, but to get the BEAST with all the bells and whistles you'll pay $500 more at a total cost of $3300. With the ATACR SFP being $2300, it wouldn't make sense to introduce a FFP model at $2500 because it would cripple the sales of the SFP. Therefore, the $2800 price point would be ideal, IMO.

NFNXS SFP - $1800
ATACR SFP - $2300
ATACR FFP - $2800
BEAST FFP - $3300

Obviously, I am not economics major but in my mind, that pricing scale makes sense with each 'upgrade' in glass or options being a $500 increase in price.

Point was that having 2 optics with nearly identical features priced that close together is going to effect sales of one another.

I guess i can see the argument for an ffp ATACR, but I'm fine with sfp. And if the reticle is any thicker at max zoom than it already is then ffp wouldn't be an option for me...

Would affect sales? While it certainly would affect the sales of one or the other, I'd be willing to bet it would take away the sales from the competition making it a win for Nightforce regardless.

Everyone will still compare the Beast to the S&B PMII, so why not get the best tried and true scope and be done. I'm sure the beast will be nice and have some nice features, but is it worth all this. Just get the S&B you want now and when they have all the bugs worked out of the beast and production is up and running get it then. Just my .02.

Not sure what the point of your post was other reiterate what I already said.

Let me rephrase, Nightforce BEAST at say $3200+ would take on the scopes that cost more than $3K.

Nightforce ATACR FFP at a little under $2800 would take on the scope market from $2K to $3K.

Currently, with the BEAST, they're only after the $3K-4K market.

So while they would eat into each others sales, they could potentially garner more business in total than with only a $3K+ scope.

Agree that a FFP ATACR priced @ $2800 would dominate sales of all higher priced simular powered optics including the BEAST. Hence the absence of a FFP ATACR.

While I agree that, from the perspective of a consumer, a FFP version of the ATACR at around $2800 would be great, it's beyond silly to suggest that NF try to move down-market if they have already sold out the next year's worth of BEAST production. If my production capacity is limited, then I want to ring the cash register as hard as I can on every sale.

Now that I think on it, you're right... a Nightforce ATACR FFP priced at $2800 would easily dominate all the high end competition.

Having said that... if they got rid of the lever and made it 10 mil per rev, I'd happily pay $3200 for a BEAST setup that way.

I had my heart set on one, but I am not wiling to wait on a some maybe date. I have an as of yet un-scoped and un fired GAP 10 sitting in my safe and as soon as I can find some ammo for it I want to be able to break it in and have some fun with it. So now I am looking at either S&B 5-25x56 or Bushnell Elite Tactical XRS 4.5-30x 50mm

I have always been a BIG NF fan (even though I am not currently shooting one). I am very glad to see them doing so well in sales, but with the quality of the product and the quality of the people behind the product I never doubted their success. I do wish they would come out with a scope that would fit my needs (ATACR in FFP), I know that is what the BEAST is marketed for but I just don't like over complicating things or paying for things I don't honestly need (like I need more $3500+ scopes haha). But who knows when the BEAST get out in full force I just may give one a try, I know the voice in the back of my head will not shut up about them.

If you are on the preorder list from a few months ago, you would be crazy to jump ship now. It's only a couple months out. That gap 10 will shoot fine with buis in the meantime. You could probably flip it for an extra $500 too. I'd pay that to avoid the wait... Especially over a year!

Nope not in preorder the Gap 10 just came in last month and I didn't start looking at optics until just prior seeing as I didn't know when the gun would be ready or what optics would be available when it was ready. Then I got happy because i was seeing a June 10th date for the beast so I stopped researching again, then they pushed that back. So when I'm ready to buy I will buy what's available at the time. Rambling done :)

For me ATACR FFP with H59 reticle for somewhere between $2900-3200 sold....
