Wyo.
Starting to put in orders for all my bits and pieces, I'll be using a Model 70 action to be chambered in the 30-06 Gov't. Probably going to get a Schneider barrel on order. I'm at a bit of a indecision point when it comes to my stock choices. I know I'd like a McMillan, but I'm not sure if I want to go the A4 or A5 route. The butt-hook is a feature I think I'd like to have but I know of noplace nearby where I could handle one or both of these stocks to check em out, so I'm putting a bit of trust in yall's knowledge and wisdom. Also when it comes to these McMillans, I've heard molded is the way to go. The 3 tone marbelized look comes off a bit goofy looking for my taste, do they offer a 50/50 or some other mixture of 2 colors, or could I get the molded all in one color, and stick with the molded coloring vs the painted surface? Any stock advice on McMillans, or pictures of your A4 or A5 stocks would be a great help as their website doesn't offer too many angles. Pictures wanted especially of your McMillan stocks with a Winchester setting in it with that big beautiful pullin claw! Thanks in advance.

I got a good deal on the A4, but didn't think it looked to great. It's grown on me. I really like the deep butt hook. The newer, shallow one like the A5, and Manners T4 is worthless, as far as I'm concerned. The A4s reach from grip to trigger is longer than an A5, requiring long hands and fingers to properly achieve a proper 90° angle at your first joint, while also addressing the trigger in the middle of your finger pad. For me, the A4 looks cooler, but the A5 is a bit more ergonomic.

Mine is an FN SPR (short action Win70).

I vote neither, give the A3-5 a good look. I love my A-3 for the up/down - left/right adjustability of the cheekpiece. I wish the A3-5 had been available years ago when I had my rifle built, I would have definately gone with it ...

Jay, I will have to dig for those photos. Took them a while back. Sent my M70 to CDI and they did the install. Excellent work and great CS. I had it chambered for .308.
