75gr amax question

I'm curious about 2 things;
1. Is this bullet AR compatible (AR-15)?
2. Anybody have good results with this bullet in a 1-7 twist and if so what's your recipe?

I get same results with the 75Amax as with the 77 gr SMK both loaded the same with 24.5 gr of varget at mag length in my colt 1-7 twist. I use either ones for matches and in 300 yds rapid fire across the course NRA comp. never let me down.

I couldn't get the 75gr Amax to seat mag length. The bullet started to curve in to the ogive below the neck. I'm sticking with 77gr SMK and just picked up another 500 yesterday.

I've use the 75gr BTHP a bunch in 1-7 and 1-8 barrels at mag length with results from 0.9-0.7 MOA with Win 748. Recently switched to Berger 80.5gr BTHP with results of 0.5-0.3 MOA out of the same rifle and same powder. Both were once fire LC brass and CCI 41 primers. Can't say the load as I don't have my notes with me. The drop is about the same over distance but the wind performance is better with the Berger. Walt Berger was nice enough to send me a detailed email about using them at mag length in the AR platform and actually recommended them over their own 75gr bullets. I'm getting 2530 fps out of them through a 20" 1-8" 5.56 Match chambered Criterion Barrel.

From what I've been told about the AMAX is they won't run at mag length so I never tried.

The Amax most definitely won't run mag length. The start of the ogive (end of the bearing surface) seats below the case mouth. The HPBT is what you want for AR use.

Well....all I can say is I load both 75g amax and even 80 g hpbt at mag length and get 2900+ fps out of both with .5 moa 5 shot groups out of my 18 inch obr with no issues. I've done it for over 3000 rounds. Just because it looks weird doesn't mean it doesn't work. With that said I also have a recipe for a subsonic 223 load that cycles the bolt but I will take that secret to the grave.

If you have an in depth understanding of the mechanics behind match ammo, loading 75g amax to mag length with accurate results is defiantly doable.

I had a guy show up to one of my DM Courses in March with 250 rounds of 75gr A-MAX, not 75gr HPBT, loaded on top of 22.8gr of 8208 XBR. They were loaded to mag length, and he proceeded to ring steel all day long out to 600yds from a 16" MLGS Centurion barreled AR15 with Surefire can. I had read everywhere that it doesn't work, won't fit, and even came to the same conclusions myself when trying to find a workable COAL with the ones I bought, but seeing is believing, and the 75gr A-MAX seemed to work batter than any other .224 pill I have experienced in the AR15 for shooting at distance from the magazine.
