I am new to 1911s and just purchased a GRP II Recon (Commander length slide/Government size frame w/light rail). I purchased this pistol primarily for concealed carry (without light/laser); however, I travel a lot and would like to mount a light/laser while it resides on the nightstand. My guess is that the Surefire lights work fairly well, as Nighthawk includes them with the GRP Recon pistols. My concern is since I have a commander length slide, the light will hang out past the muzzle. Does anyone have experience with other light/laser combinations on a Nighthawk or other 1911? How about experience with a Viridian C5L? Any info. and or photos would be must appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a GRP Recon (full size) with a Surefire X300. I don't have much experience with lasers and don't see the point in one. You'll be fine with an X300 sticking past the muzzle.

Streamlight's TLR 2-battery series fit about flush with the muzzle of my old 4.25" light-railed 1911.
If size is your concern, also look at the smaller single-cell model TLR-3 and other sub-compact models, like insights'.

Personally while weapons mounted lights have their advantages I prefer a flashlight (that is a different discussion) but having one protrude past the muzzle is no problem. For the laser, Crimson Trace grips work well and are always on the sidearm. Enjoy the Nighthawk, fine pistol.

dbransco, I love the full size GRP Recon. The fit and finish is unbelievable. Nighthawk's attention to detail is wonderful. I'm more of a Government size 1911 fan, but I'm sure you'll be happy.

that is a great weapon and the surefire x300 is the best. If you cannot hit them the 500 lums will blind them!!

I too am a fan of a flashlight but IF you are going weapons mounted the surefire is great.
