Anyone ever dyed a stock pack before? I've tried the Krylon before and wasn't real fond of the results....I got a Coyote Tan stock pack and wanna make it black...or close to it. Thinking about getting some Rit Dye and dying it but just curious how the suede cheek piece area will fair...

Thanks.

I have dyed BDUs and other stuff but not a stock pack. If you mix it right you can turn your BDU just a shade or two darker which is what we needed years ago.

I don't think you could turn a coyote tan black. That nylon won't absorb enough pigments to turn it black.

It's not going to turn out like you hope. It's all synthetic fiber that is designed to be water repellent. That means it isn't going to absorb dye well.

My suggestion is sell what you have and buy what you want.

Damn....wasn't what I was hoping to hear, lol.

Especially with Triad on hold with their Stock Packs...hate to let mine go and have to wait on another replacement..ima probably just deal with the color and call it good.

Thanks guys.

On the plus...Rit's website says it WILL dye nylon fibers (Shoulda Googled it first maybe) can't hurt I don't reckon. If it doesn't come out black, it'll be closer I assume and I'll still just call it good!

What brand is it? I have a black Eagle stock pack and would be willing to trade for like quality. It has been used, but still in great shape.

Rit will dye nylon. But the nylon you are trying to dye has a water repellent coating. You may get some darkening, but the end product is probably going to look like ass.

Not sure why you are trying to dye it black unless its just for looks. Most of us try to get our rifles colored something other than black since back is not only hotter than hell, but it also stands out in nature........did I mention it will melt my candy bars?

a black stock pack filled with all the essentials, you know skittles, snickers, things like that will melt. On the other side of the coin a black stock pack makes a great microwave for corn dogs, french fries and such.

It's a Eagle if I ain't mistaken. Just sent another member a pm. Saw he had a post in the WTT section. If I don't hear from him or it doesn't work out we might can make something happen.

Lonewolf...it is purely aesthetic, my candy bars will be good to go.lol.

Thanks, VJJ....never thought about using it to heat up my hot dogs! Guess it'll really make the potted meat even better!

The funky thing with black rit dye is that it usually will come out deep purple unless being used on something very absorbent like cotton.

That's EXACTLY what I was going to say. When adding Black to a water repellant dark tan....I highly doubt you're going to get the result you want.
Put a few drops on a spot that isn't obvious, let it soak in (if it will) and repeat 3-4 times over a couple days. Then try and wash it out.

My bet is that you won't like the result, but at least you won't have a pack that looks like complete shit.

When using RIT dyes you have degrease everything really well. I have done a few things, but no nylon gear. I have a feeling you might end up with a tie-dyed stock pack. I would defiantly trade it if possible.

Big thick Sharpie marker.... Works much better than RIT on nylon. Or you can wait until then end of the week when we turn the site back on ;-)

I like the sharpie idea.....but I like the idea of turning the site back on even better.

Krylon spray paint in camo colors is your friend here. RiT dyes just did not work well for me on anything that had a nylon content to the fabric. Krylon spray paint however rocks.

It would dye the color of the Stock . But I would not do it .
Back in the day when I was a kid & we would build and racing Slot Cars . ( For more Rigidity ) . We used to take or Slot Car plastic frames & soak them in Rit Dye . As a kid, it was a good fast, easy trick for faster car when racing & the frames changed color also in soaking .

Not Saying your Rifle Stock is Plastic , But Something in the PH & Chems. in Rit Dye change the plastic and made it more rigid/less flex . But Some of the colors were different w/different effects . & sometimes in soaking in the Dye the rigidity went to far & it changed it, past the point of No Flex & to being to brittle & they would just snap when you put any pressure on them .
I know your stock is not plastic . & I know the soaking in Rit Dye will change the color but I would not chance the Chemical affects and possible aftereffect with unknown composites & laminates .

Auto upholstery repair person. They frequent auto dealerships. One of these guys can 'paint' it for you.
Better off just waiting to buy another and give / sell the one you do not like.
