As many have noted, changes to the forum like removing the 2nd Amendment Section resulted in members having their post count reduced. It appears that any pruning we do of the forum will mean the membership will constantly lose posts in their count. There is nothing we can do about it that I know of. (remember I am learning vB as we go also,I have very limited answers in this respect )

Because this impacts Full Membership we have decided to adjust the limits to the software will still Promote the membership regardless of the post count. What we have done is set the promotion so it will consider your registration date not just your post count. If you are registered for 45 days you will be promoted to Full Membership. If you make 100 posts you can also be promoted to Full Membership. if you are a long time member and we prune the forum and you lose posts, your time on board will still count.

There are other options we can use, and if we see people trying to game the system we will adjust this so newer members will have to put time in as well as post. If we see a rash of 45 day members with only 1 post putting ads up we'll adjust it so you have to have posts and time not one or the other. The reality is, if you make 3 posts a day you can be at 100 in no time at all.

With the For Sale Section as always, Buyer's and Sellers Beware !

There are people who will attempt to take advantage of you. Protect yourself at all times as we will not be responsible for transactions gone bad. Our only recourse is to ban the offending party. This does not get you made whole in any way it just limits the damage to you and no one else. (Hopefully)

So to follow up, Full Membership = 45 days registered on the site OR 100 posts
The other options is to pay $20 for 21 days access to the New Member For Sale Section

Either will allow you to list an item for sale on SH.

    ...
BTW quick question on the photo's people upload not URL ones I can't get them to open up bigger when I click on them. Seems to be the case in the last 2 days or so. Using Firefox. Don't know if its site related or just me yet but thought you should know.

    Here's a photo example that doesn't work
    http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/firearms-sale/195581-18-match-rifle-length-spr-ar15.html
I've also found that to be the case with both Google Chrome and Explorer in the past two days. Clicking on the thumbnail only causes an endless clock to whirl with no picture.

Lowlight, I don't envy the crap you're having to resolve, when your time could be better spent shooting and other more useful things.

The change of the DB Server probably affected the location of the thumbnails which is why they are not showing, try putting another up now and see if it works. If not that means there is a data table not linked to the proper location.

Are lost post "lost" from the system, lost from searches? If so a lot of possible good information gone, oh well, we'll make more info.

Never mind, I found my lost posts.

thanks for the update, been away a couple of weeks dealing with some shit and wondered why I went from 540ish to 0. Dealt with forum upogrades in the past, they suck balls. Good luck with it and thanks.

Yeah lost 1000ish post count, no biggie. But I also lost all of my posts from my profile history. The only thing I have is my filled out profile and my join date. Was this pretty common with the site changes? And thanjs for a kickass site, regardless of some snafus.

    Eric

    Are the actual posts gone?

Because when the site went up the first time I lost about 1,700 posts. Then last week I lost another 7,500 posts. I understand losing a few posts here and there, but to go from over 11,000 to 2,000... Seriously?!!.

The posts are not lost, for whatever reason and I am following up, the count was changed.

We moved to two new DB servers, and we removed the 2nd Amend section. Those are the only posts removed.

This site has ALWAYS pruned and removed posts, but it never effected the count, so half of you or more never realized we pruned posts.

Why it resets the count I have no fucking idea nor is it a priority as I have adjusted the full member status to work around it. It's a stupid number that means nothing. We turned on the reputation, you can use that if you want status.

try fucking Googling vB for an answer, if you find it let us know.

And now you jumped up to 22,523 posts. How the fuck is that possible !

I fixed your post for you. :)

EDIT: At least in the quote above.

EDIT: Shit, it went down and then went back up. WTF!

EDIT: I think somebody is messing with you. Your current post count equals your claimed longest bullseye in meters. 22,523.

    I went from 6675 to 670.

Basically the system adjusting post counts is the way it is ... at least this is what they said.

Posts count are automatically decreased from the users count if the posts are removed/deleted from the database. That's why it's best when/if we have to delete a forum to completely hide it and make it unaccessible, that way the users post counts aren't affected.

So unlike UBB vB apparently does not maintain the count...

Changes have been make and post count is not longer an issue (short term)

I would also recommend if you have guys you respect and trust in their opinions on here to "like" their posts as it provides a reputation that can be used.

I like this tool, but I've noticed it isn't available for posts in all sub-forums. I can "like" a post in the semi-auto rifles sub-forum, for example, but I can't "like" a post in the bolt action sub-forum. Can this be turned on in all sub-forums? Thanks,

    John

Yeah, I was wondering about that......I think I lost about 90 posts.

    No biggy, just weird.

Don't worry, I just noticed that virtually all of my posts are gone (pretty much anything before yesterday, I think)! At least I now know what is going on, thanks to this thread, but it's too bad I can't refer back to any of those older posts... darned technology!

Actually, all your posts still exist. I just clicked on your name and was able to scroll down and see all your previous posts going way back. You just don't have the post count credit anymore. Strange I know, but it's the way it is.

Actually, you're correct... I had always viewed my previous posts through the "My Activity" tab within my profile. That area only shows my most recent posts now, whereas it used to show all of them. But, if I click on my name the way you describe, I can still see all of my posts. So, that works. Thanks for the tip!

Not sure if I was directly affected by the elimination of certain forums, as I KNOW I frequently posted in many that are still around, but with the board re-do I lost ALL my post count numbers. Pretty sure I was 800+ before.

Ok, well this explains ALOT....now I've just got to figure out if my PM's are gone for good.....who cares about numbers, its about accessing them that matters and obviously it looks like we can. Thanks for the heads up Frank, its good to be back, just trying to play catch up with the new changes....

Hey !!! I lost lotsa posts, about 1700 in all, and don't care as long as it doesn't affect my status in the rare event I post something for sale in the PX, which it doesn't..........what really bothers me is getting busted to private ! I swear I didn't burn that piss test !!!!!!

Okay, glad I read this... I haven't been on in a while and I noticed after I replied to a thread a minute a go that my post count said "2"... down from over 2000. I about shit myself thinking some new policy about how active you are was put in place. At least I'm in good company looking like a long-term newbie!

Actual post history is still intact.... that's really the thing I was most concerned about.

Thanks for the clarification. I spend most of my time here learning from the wealth of knowledge and information that is available here on The Hide. Which means that for the most part I keep my eyes and ears open, and my mouth shut. Though I did want to chime in and say thanks for all the effort that goes into making The Hide such a great resource. Being an admin can be a thankless job, so know that the efforts are greatly appreciated, and that if our paths ever cross the beers are on me.
