Decided I needed a new project so I found a block of Al...

AR-10 prints are numerous on the net with varying degrees of accuracy (from my comparison of prints and measurement of the real thing) but I wanted a DPMS compatible lower so I drew up a receiver in CAD and combined the dims I wanted from a known good AR 10 print with the measurements of the features I wanted to change - reverse redneck engineering at its finest...

Here is the faced off/ drilled billet ready to install into my fixture

Here is the receiver blank after the profile has been made 2d

Passenger Side "finished"

Still working out tool paths so I will need to make a couple more before I am happy but that just means that that I will be happy and broke (wish bcg's and barrel extensions were as cheap as their little brothers...)

More to come when I get around to downloading more pics.

Nice, I wish I had the tools... and skill to do that!

It's easy all you need is a patient wife, enough money/space to buy large machinery and then the school of hard knocks trashing parts and busting end mills, if you WANT to do something you can do it. Time and money (commitment)separate people and their abilities in many endeavors far more than intrinsic skill."...

Nonetheless. thanks and if you really wanted to try it pm me and give you the basic concepts.....

So far...so good!

Congrats on taking the initiative, time and money to DIY this project. I'm sure you'll be pleased when all is said and done. Be sure to keep up posted on your progress...this will be a great one to watch unfold from start to finish!!

It'll be interesting to see how this works out. I'm looking for a place to set up shop and a cheap Fadal 4020 with a 4th axis.

Good luck on the search whitehorze, fadals have the advantage of a good sized work envelope and cheaper spare parts. If I was trying to mass produce receivers for more than personal consumption, I think a big horizontal cnc with a trunnion table would be the cats meow for making chips
