Just saw this optic announced on Facebook:

Vortex Optics - Viper HS-T Riflescopes

SFP, MOA and MRAD hash reticles, MSRP of $659 (maybe $559 street price?).

Looks like a second focal PST 4-16x with 44mm objective and no illumination. Or alternately, the discontinued Viper HS 5-15x44 with a 4x zoom range and better reticle.

Wire reticle I'm guessing. If the street price is more like $479-529 I think it's a home run. Otherwise I'd save my pennies until I could afford a PST.

I picked up one of the MidwayUSA Viper HS 5-14x44 for $399 last spring (the one with exposed/tactical turrets for ele and wind). Best money (value-wise) I've ever spend on glass. I hope they get the pricing right on this. I have a rifle that would be really happy with one of these...

Street price will be 559, and it has a etched reticle.

EDIT: I was wrong it is a wire reticle.

I guess they realized how successful the HS 5-15x44's were (love mine). I only wish they changed the CRS shim zero stop. Hate that system. Depending on the release date, this scope may very well end up on my Tikka.

42769vette, do you know when these are actually going to ship out? The site says summer '13, but Vortex's estimates seem to be off more often than not.

Out of curiosity, what do you find about the Zero Stop system so reprehensible? It seems quite simple and effective to me.

As for the new scope, I have the 5-15 now, and it may find its way to my .223, with one of these going in its place on the .308.

Im told 7-15ish. Im sure they could upgrade the CRS system, to more of a mechanical zero stop like the Razor, but the scope would cost alot more to produce, IE more to buy. The CRS is much better than most zero stop systems in its price range.

Thanks for the info!

Very good point about the shims. The good thing is that I can just opt out of using them, which is what I ended up doing. I treat the scope as if it has no zero stop. No big deal, and for the price, I really shouldn't complain too much.

A trick I do to make them line up with zero better is

sight in
dial up 10 clicks (mil/moa doesnt matter)
take off the turrets
fill the shims
put the turrets back on with either 2.5 moa, or 1 mil facing you.

that takes some of if not all the play out of it.

Just bought a an HS-T for my M24 replica.
Wanted to get a Leupy Mark 4, but liked the price, reputation, and warranty of Vortex better.
Now I gotta ind some Butler caps for it. Anyone know the right sizes to get?
Nice scope, can't wait to get to the range with it.
