Hello All. I'm looking for some advice on where to send (but preferably take) my R700 SPS V .308 to have the barrel threaded and muzzle brake installed. I'm in Omaha, NE and my local gunsmith neither offers the service, nor knows of anyone who does. Ideally, I'd like to drive somewhere and have the work done while I wait. However, in these times, I understand most gunsmiths are probably too busy for that, so I am also willing to drop it off for a couple weeks, if necessary. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance!

Chris, it's not a bad trip from Omaha to Kansas City where you can choose from GAP or Cresent Customs. If you have not purchased a brake yet you could stop by Badger Ord and pick one up from Marty.

All 3 business are within walking distance of each other in North Kansas City.

Very doubtful it can be done while you wait but you could always call and ask.

I can help you with the local BBQ locations while you are in town, just send me a PM.

Respectfully,

Chet

Rwgunsmithing in manning Iowa wouldn't be too far of a drive and he does good work

Kent Kelly in Burwell is a little bit of a drive but he's in Grand Island regularly and does good work. He used to work for Magnaport I believe.

Awesome! Thank you all for the suggestions. I'll start calling these places today. I really appreciate the direction!

I also live in Papillion, I have been using Michael at Controlled Chaos Arms over in Baxter, Ia. Just north east of Des Moines, I have some of his work, if you are interested in looking ahead of time.

I would suggest giving Travis Frerking a call at Frerking Custom Works in Cortland just 20 min south of Lincoln on Hwy 77. I have had a brake installed by him before and was very pleased. I will be taking my Remington 5r to him later this week to have the barrel cut down, threaded, and have a Surefire SOCOM brake installed.

Have the barrel threaded concentric to the bore like it should be then if later on you decide to try a can you wont get
baffle strikes.
Not all gunsmiths thread concentric to the bore so ask before you have the work done.
