Interested in what others are using.

Im using a 9twist Bartlein. 22"

Bought 700 162Amaxs

3lbs of Viht. N160

Rem brass, Federal primers

I havent started load work yet. Just built the rifle.

I hear the 162s arent available anymore. So Ill need to switch to something heavier once I run out.
H4350 is my go-to powder but it cant be found right now so no point in even considering it(for me snyways).

Thanks for sharing.

Factory 700 S/S barrel with 9&1/4 twist(I think) shoots 162AMAXs pretty well, 41grs 200MR.

With Hornady parking 162 production, I'm very curious to see some 175gr SMK reports.

H 414 works well. Available. Not too slow in that case especially with heavies. 2.920, plenty enough room for 45gr. of it.\
Let us 7-08 addicts know how you get along with it.
I have not heard of need for faster twist. Mostly because 162's and 168's seem the [new] norm.

Im planning on starting around 41gr with N160 and working up. Probably stopping around 45gr from what Ive read. I havent found much data on it.

If anyone has experience with Viht N160 and 162s, let me know.

Thank you guys. Ill be loading ammo next week and testing next weekend.

I also shoot the 162 A-Max from a 22", 8 twist Lilja barrel MATEN build. I use 2000 MR and H4350. I get a little more velocity from 2000 MR but about the same accuracy. With Hornady discontinuing the 162, im thinking of trying a lighter bullet. Maybe the 154's.

I run 162's in my 1:10 Krieger right now but will likely switch to either the 168 Berger Hybrid or something similar. I have a box of 168 Nosler CC's but they don't look like they will add up in he BC department.

I went with the 7-08 to shoot heavy bullets. So no way Im going lighter.
Can anyone tell me for sure which of the heavies I can shoot from a 1-9 twist?

I think the 168 Bergers say 1-10 minimum. So I might try those.

FWIW:

7mm 175gr SMK @ 2600 through a 1:9 twist, 500' ASL. 59F, 29.92Hg has a stability factor of 1.63.

168 Berger just fine in my 12" 9.25.

Thanks for the above Boiler. That would answer a lot.
What is your elevation correction @ 1000?

Try them all. I've never had any trouble at sea level with 180 VLDs at 2700fps in a 9 twist.

162 amax + H4350 is my main load, (viht n550 backup powder)

175 smk + viht n550 is my backup load... Which I'm now switching to because of the shortages.

I have a 28" 1-8 twist Bartlein, only one way to really know if your barrel will push the 175's...
Try a box :)

viht n550 gives me slightly more speed than H4350, but it isn't quite as temp stable,
But Hodgen powders are now extinct in the UK, so im falling back onto the Viht again.
