GAP10 ShowEm Off Pics

This is a BMF! I sighted in on Sunday and I know this is only a 3 shot group, but it was my first 3 shot group and the paper looked to good to mess up. I shot first shot lower left. My buddy shot the second and told me he was going to shoot just to the right of mine... He thought he was something special after and wouldn't tell me where it hit only insisted I look. Third shot was me right on top of the other 2. After that I took it to 300 yd 12" steel... Piece of Cake! The 500 yd 2x2 steel. Also piece of cake. No misses on either through 20 rounds. Even though I waited 7 months. I don't feel like I waited a day once I got the gun. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371674258.548762.jpg

While I was on the road to Reno NV to attend my nephews wedding, I received a call that my GAP-10 is done. What great road trip news.

I ordered about the beginning of Nov. 2012. I ordered the 18.5" fluted barrel, GAP Titan Muzzle Brake, Geisle Match Trigger, Magpul PRS stock in FDE, two extra 10 round magazines, and a Vortex Razor HD EBR -2B with rings to mount it. Dustin gave a great deal on the scope.

Henry

Sorry Henry...did you get your two extra mags? I was just told last week that my extras "might" be able to be sent.

I ordered the two mags when I placed my original order, so I think they will be shipped with my order.

Any updates on the reliability and durability of this platform. Does she have to be treated like a queen or can she still play well when all dirty, muddy, etc . . . . ?

Wohoo,

Got the phone call this am from Annie at GAP. Mine is done and on the way. Ordered Nov 19th. Can't wait. Will post pool porn when it gets here. john

Since no one else answered I share my experiences...

I have 3 GAP-10's (260, 308 & 338) and I haven't had a single issue with any of them. All of my rifles are treated as tools, far from safe queens... I shoot them all suppressed so needless to say they all stay dirty.

As far as toughness goes my 338 Federal SBR has been through the ringer... When I first got it last summer WE (meaning myself & rifle) were tossed off the tailgate of a truck after a late night pig hunt. On another hunt I accidentally dropped it into some stagnant green muddy lake water while getting out of a canoe. Didn't clean it; checked for obstructions, wiped out the ocular & objective lens and was on my way!!! Later that night I killed 4 pigs with it during which it functioned as expected without any incident...

REF Gap-10's . We are shipping 5 or so GAP-10's a day. Magpul has us caught up on their parts. Receiving another 50+ hand guards next week. 100 complete sets of parts again in a couple weeks and then 200 sets in September. If your ordered in December you will get yours real soon. Jan- Feb Orders will back up a little as the sheer number of guns ordered are going to choke the lead time up a bit. Somewhere in the October/November time frame the Handguard will change a bit, not drastically but the curved front will go straight and the cooling cuts will change shape a little and Im going to leave the bottom a little more solid with dimples. This change has to happen so there is not the possibility of getting the old style once its gone. I think you guys will like it!!

Damn George. I have a February order. Feel free to adapt any change to the build, on top of my order specs, as you feel. :)

Mine seems to like 42.5 gr Varget better than 43.5 gr (not shown), but still working it. The nice thing here is 15 fairly consistent shots - all GAP's doing. Don't have MV value yet. Tightening the screws.

Just give them a call and tell them what you'd like to do with the rifle. They'll be able to offer some recommendations.

Well ... after looking around for a precision .308 AR platform rifle, I now "NEED" one from GA Precision ... Now I just need to decide specs.
Here's what I have thus far:

All Black
20" Barrel
Flutted
Surefire Brake
Geissele DMR
PRS Stock

I'm still a little iffy on the Barrel Length and Brake

Go with a 22''. You can always cut it down if your don't like the length... but you can't always add length without buying a new barrel.

I see a lot of guys choosing the 762ssal/re Surefire brake ... Is this because you have the corresponding suppressor to match, it performs better than the SFMB-762-5/8-24 (Socom) or just preference based on looks???

Any of you have a 22" barrel Gap10 with the SFMB Socom Brake? I haven't seen one in this thread yet unless I just missed it ...

One more question ... I currently do not own a suppressor in 7.62(.308) ... However, if I were to order this rifle with Noveske's switchblock, I'll have no issues running this gun without a suppressor for ever if desired, correct? Just thinking that it will be nice to have that installed during the build if I ever do decide to pick up a suppressor ...

you can but defeats purpose of having the boys open up the ports and tune it to your can. You can always send it back. Or commit to a can and let them know what it is. I'm sure they have data for most cans on hand.

I thought in Tyler's GAP-10 review video he said that you cannot retrofit a rifle without a switchblock to a switchblock system? I thought it had to do with something the location of the gas ports.

I'd ask GAP to be certain. They'd know better than me.

I'd also buy the can and send off the paperwork now... The wait ain't improving!

I'm pretty sure KYS had his retro-fitted.

The Noveske switchblock is a "switch block". The switch has three positions: normal (unsuppressed), suppressed, and off. The normal position sends a preset amount of gas back to work the action when you don't have a can on and it works beautifully. The suppressed position sends a modified amount of gas back to work the action because the can changes the dynamics and this modified amount needs to be tuned to work with your specific can. The timing and pressures are quite sensitive, so GAP needs your upper and your specific can to ensure proper operation while in the suppressed mode. Working off of data for different can models is not good enough. They tuned my switchblock for my Cyclone can and it works reliably. The off position doesn't send any gas back to the action, so you can use that for single shot testing.

If you think you might want a can for the rifle, absolutely get the Noveske switchblock - no brainer. The tougher question is whether you want a brake that will accept a can, or just have the barrel threaded to accept the can directly. I went with the threaded option because...it's only a .308 and the stock absorbs the recoil easily without a brake. I shot 275 rounds without a brake or can and it was comfortable. Also, once you have a can with a tuned switchblock, you'll probably use it almost all the time. Of course, the Quick Disconnect feature of the brake/can combo is nice because you don't have to spin the can on and off each time you case the rifle. There are pros and cons to most choices like this - I'm just sharing what is working quite well for me.

BTW, yesterday I shot my first subsonic hand loads through the suppressor and it was just a bit louder than a dry fire. Fun stuff.

Thanks man ...

Hmmm....wonder if they're gonna be able to tune my 30P for sonic and sub sonic as I requested. Maybe the OFF can just be for subs....

Concur - don't think the subs have enough gas to cycle. It hasn't worked for me yet, so I plan to select OFF and keep the action & mag a little cleaner.

The Hornady super-performance functioned and shot well in your gap-10? No signs of pressure? Accuracy was obviously phenomenal.

the hornady super-performance showed no signs of pressure. very accurate!!! and never misses a beat in my GAP-10. it fly's 2800fps out of my 20inch barrel!
hornady super 178, magtech 168bthp and copper canyon creek ammo 175gr are the only ammo that cycles my machine.

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgI got my GAP10 today and I have to post some preliminary pictures as I am initially very impressed with the craftsmanship, hydro dip and my experience with Dustin was outstanding. GAP gets an A from me in terms of listening to what I wanted, getting back to me in a timely fashion as well as overall courtesy. I am popping smoke to head across the pond for a work trip and when I return; I will be shooting this with Southwest Ammo 175 premium and MK316 175. Without a doubt, my results will be posted then.

Thanks glockaholic! I can't wait to return and start sending lead down range with it. I truly cannot remember the cost and don't see it itemized on my receipt, but I can tell you that I recall thinking "For Atacs, that's not bad at all."... I think it was about 250.00 but don't hold me too it. Money well spent IMO.
