Just got it today! This is my first bolt gun! TSR XP .308, DBM, 20" tube. It appears to be very nice! Well made, feels and looks good, action is smooth! I just need to decide on what glass to put on it so I can finally go zero it and shoot it! I can't wait!!!

Some pics:

^^^Yes! I do! Trying to figure that out now...

Gonna be a little while, but I can't wait to put some glass on it and shoot it!

Congrats!

The addiction begins... there are many suggestions out there for glass, but all I can say is spend your $$$$ wisely.. especially with a reticle you can live with.

Looking forward to seeing some range reports on your new toy. Congrats again :)

Glass should be here soon! The only bummer is that the rings are backordered and will be another 2 weeks! Dammit!

The funny thing is that was my exact same first bolt action .308. $15k and a few rifles later, here I am. Start saving, you will soon be addicted if not already.

Thanks for the heads up! I think we all have a little bit of an addiction! I'm sure I will be modifying this one sometime as well as purchasing/building something in the near future!

Well, I hope you like it/liked it and had good luck/accuracy with it! I can't wait to sight mine in and have some fun!

Where in Florida are you? If your anywhere near crestview you'll want to spend a lot of time at K&M.

Mauser style claw extractor! Love those damn rifles! The bolt on the Win 70's with claw extractors have always been smoother and felt better than a 700. Great choice!

awesome choice for a first bolt gun , they dont get any better than that in the price range.

Congrats on your newest rifle - I hope it will be a source of enjoyment for a long time to come. You have chosen wisely I am interested in what progress you will be making. Please continue to post your experiences.

Thank you very much! I will definitely keep everyone posted as to what my experiences are with this rifle as well as what I 'do' to it.

I can't wait to be able to post a range report!

Thanks again for the kind response!

Glass was finally decided on, received and my backordered rings arrived as well!

I also added a Triad stock pack and a Savvy sling. I just can't wait to go get her dialed in!

Hoping that the weather cooperates, which is unlikely this time of year, but I'll try for sometime soon!

Added my sling and my stock pack/cheek rest. Also decided to wrap the glass and end of the tube to break it up a little...

I still need to go dial her in. The weather has not nor will not be cooperating for a while...so I may need to wait until the fall and the heat and rains stop.

Will keep ya'll posted.

Congratulations on getting a solid platform to start with. Will you be hand loading for it?

Thanks Flash! I will not be reloading/hand loading as of now. That will be another bridge I cross one day down the road! I will have to rely on some of the factory loads that I find it likes.

I am really sad to inform you that you won't stop with just one and you will quickly find that even a $5K rifle is really the cheap part. They are addictive!!!!! Since we are all aware how addictive they are I have started a precision bolt rifle rescue, once you decide for the next best thing I will gladly at no cost give your old stick a home :)...welcome to fun and expensive world of precision rifle shooting!

Screw the weather. The heat and rain won't hurt that rig; or even you for that matter. Just go shoot that great rig you have. I could not wait a day longer if I were you. We have a second home in Orlando; I shoot with the family in the middle of the summer. Hopefully your range may have a shelter top like ours does. That helps a lot. I have shot my rifle/scope in very hot rainy conditions and freezing rain/sleet without any problems with performance. But I must say the shooter was not the most happy in those conditions.

OBTW, I like the rap on the scope. Nicely done and not permanent. I have not seen that before. Good choice of a scope. What are the specs on that scope? Let us know how she shoots real soon. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses all.

M21: yeah, you know how it is down here in the summer! Hot, humid, buggy and miserable! Plus I'm in the middle of the swamp! LOL

Yeah, the wrap is pretty cool stuff. I've done a few of my rigs with it. I like that it breaks up the big black blob of a scope on top as well as protects is somewhat. And, yeah, it is removable, washable, and re-useable. It is also pretty heat resistant. I used it on the barrel of an AR and it has held up well. CAMO FORM is the name of it.

The scope is a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 w/MOAR reticle and ZeroStop. It's my second one of theirs and I love them so far!

How do you like that Hogue stock with the full bedding block? Does the barrel stay free floated when you use the bipod?

My second rifle was very much like yours. Mine was a 18'' PBR in a Hogue stock with a Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10. I used that rifle in Grant Lavelle's scoped rifle course which was my first try at long range shooting. The students in that class all thought I would have trouble with the slow twist rate and using 175gr Black Hills with the relatively short barrel. I had that puppy banging 18" X 30" steel @ 960yds and that was all it took. Many thousands of dollars and bunch of rifles bought and sold I am still hooked hard! Good Luck and nice rifle

Bigalfromfl,

Really like what I see here with your FN TSR-XP .308! I purchased an FN PBR-XP in March
which is configured exactly the same as yours: .308 w/ 20" barrel and 4rd DBM. It was still
new in the original box with the owners manual and warranty papers. I'm in the process of
building it up as a scout rifle. I haven't decided on a scope yet, and I'm also debating whether
to add a 10rd DBM or not.

I haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet...just messed around with it in the garage and house, LOL, and it appears to stay free floated. No contact with the barrel.

I like to hear this!

I will probably add the FN bottom metal w/the 10 rd TBM setup down the road.

Keep me posted on what you wind up doing!

FN for the Win!

Awesome choice IMHO ;)

Bigalfromfl, nice rig man! Great choice on the glass and all these guys are right about it just beginning, you def have been bitten by the bug. I have gotten into building ARs the past couple years and need to make room in the safe for the next project. Its amazing how we justify this stuff to ourselves. Congrats again man! Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks for the responses all.

Yeah weather sucks, but got to still play. Thanks for the tip on the camo wrap stuff. I need to get some. Nightforce is nice stuff. I like both the retical and adjustments to be in mill; makes ranging adjustments easier. I am also spoiled with a one turn knob, but could go with two turn knob though.

Take care and enjoy that nice bolt rifle.

Great package and optics for a starter rifle. Got any thoughts on your next purchase yet? Just be sure to get all matching cases, so the wife won't get suspicious about the 4 or 5 rifles you'll have in a few years!!

^^LOL! Thanks!~ You aren't kidding...she's pretty smart, she knows what some of them look like and when she sees something new, is like, what is that? LOL!

No thoughts on the next one yet...I've been looking around on the forums here and see plenty of sticks I like!

Thanks all. I had some knee surgery so I have to wait to get back on my feet, so to speak, LOL.

I should be up and about soon!

Don't worry, I'll keep ya'll posted!!
