The funny thing is that was my exact same first bolt action .308. $15k and a few rifles later, here I am. Start saving, you will soon be addicted if not already.
This man speaks the truth!Your fucked! It only gets worse from here...
awesome choice for a first bolt gun , they dont get any better than that in the price range.
Congrats on your newest rifle - I hope it will be a source of enjoyment for a long time to come. You have chosen wisely I am interested in what progress you will be making. Please continue to post your experiences.
Congratulations on getting a solid platform to start with. Will you be hand loading for it?
Screw the weather. The heat and rain won't hurt that rig; or even you for that matter. Just go shoot that great rig you have. I could not wait a day longer if I were you. We have a second home in Orlando; I shoot with the family in the middle of the summer. Hopefully your range may have a shelter top like ours does. That helps a lot. I have shot my rifle/scope in very hot rainy conditions and freezing rain/sleet without any problems with performance. But I must say the shooter was not the most happy in those conditions.I still need to go dial her in. The weather has not nor will not be cooperating for a while...so I may need to wait until the fall and the heat and rains stop. Will keep ya'll posted.
I haven't had an opportunity to shoot it yet...just messed around with it in the garage and house, LOL, and it appears to stay free floated. No contact with the barrel. How do you like that Hogue stock with the full bedding block? Does the barrel stay free floated when you use the bipod?
My second rifle was very much like yours. Mine was a 18'' PBR in a Hogue stock with a Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10. I used that rifle in Grant Lavelle's scoped rifle course which was my first try at long range shooting. The students in that class all thought I would have trouble with the slow twist rate and using 175gr Black Hills with the relatively short barrel. I had that puppy banging 18" X 30" steel @ 960yds and that was all it took. Many thousands of dollars and bunch of rifles bought and sold I am still hooked hard! Good Luck and nice rifle
Bigalfromfl,
Really like what I see here with your FN TSR-XP .308! I purchased an FN PBR-XP in March
which is configured exactly the same as yours: .308 w/ 20" barrel and 4rd DBM. It was still
new in the original box with the owners manual and warranty papers. I'm in the process of
building it up as a scout rifle. I haven't decided on a scope yet, and I'm also debating whether
to add a 10rd DBM or not.
Thanks for the responses all.
M21: yeah, you know how it is down here in the summer! Hot, humid, buggy and miserable! Plus I'm in the middle of the swamp! LOL
Yeah, the wrap is pretty cool stuff. I've done a few of my rigs with it. I like that it breaks up the big black blob of a scope on top as well as protects is somewhat. And, yeah, it is removable, washable, and re-useable. It is also pretty heat resistant. I used it on the barrel of an AR and it has held up well. CAMO FORM is the name of it.
The scope is a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 w/MOAR reticle and ZeroStop. It's my second one of theirs and I love them so far!
