According to Bushnell cust. service the new ERS and LRS scopes comig in will NOT be available with Horus H 59 reticles until sometime next year. The explaination was "military orders are taking all the H 59 reticles. REALLY?? Sounds fishy to me. The Japanese company that makes the ERS & LRS scopes can make H 59 reticles just as easily as G2 or TREMOR reticles.

Accordingly I ordered an HDMR 3.5-21 X 50 with H 59 reticle and zero stop today. If you "need" an HDMR in that reticle better order soon IF you can find one. I realize that the H 59 is not as popular as the G2 or TREMOR because many shooters feel it unnecessarily clutters the field of view but for those who do like it get it now or wait a while. Jus' sayin'.

As of a few years ago Horus Vision completely controlled the distribution of their reticles, they didn't license them out to anyone. If you wanted a Horus reticle then you placed the order with them and were subject to their lead times and unfortunately in many cases their quality control. I can believe what Bushnell is saying then, with H-59 reticles going into a lot of military bound scopes from contract companies I can see the lead times in receiving reticles from Horus extending out pretty far for other makers.

I'm curious as to what parts of the military are getting them?

I here things like this all the time, but never see any proof.

Tall Shot,

I agree, where's the proof? What units are getting them? As I said, it sounds fishy.

The EBR stocked M14 Designated Marksman rifle gets a Leupold scope, unless that has changed. The new Renington PSR gets a Leupold as well. But operators with military contractors may have been given preference to the Bushnell scopes. They may well be in Afghanistan long after the US military has left.

The customer service guy said all the H 59 reticles were for US military "for the time being". We'll see what shakes out. Gotta be some SH folks with contacts in the military that will be able to discover what's really happening.
But maybe Horus and Bushnell have an agreement that limits the number of reticles licensed for production.

are they saying units are using the bushnell scopes or they just cant get the reticles. I assure you it is not the scope. No military unit anywhere is using a bushnell anything, that is just silly. I see a lot of talk on here about the HDMR and what ever other high speed bushnell bullshit, I just can't imagine buying a $3K+ custom rifle and putting anything on top of it that has bushnell on it. But, to each his own I guess

Just get an XRS 4.5-30x50 with H59 Reticle because they are available now, have had mine for the last 3-months.

BLD,

I just took delivery today on my ERS 3.5 - 21 X50 with H 59 reticle and zero stop. A fine piece of optics. Now to mount it on my Rem./HS Precision .300 Win Mag. - in a Nightforce mount, no less.

Up until a few years ago you'd have been absolutely right; but Bushnell resurrected itself with the HDMR/DMR/ERS/XRS etc series. It's kind of a mind-f*ck to think of Bushnell being in this arena, but they are, and they're taking a good portion of the market in that price range. Almost the opposite of Leupold, who almost owned the high-end 20yrs ago then lost it, and is now working to regain some ground with the Mark 6/Mark 8 series. There are several players in the game these days offering VERY feature-rich scopes that we wouldn't have heard of or considered a few years ago (Vortex comes to mind). Until you cross the $2k mark, these are the FFP scopes worth having (along with SWFA).

Trigger Monkey is spot-on with the Horus situation. Horus makes/controls the reticles and sells them to the various scope manufacturers, and yes the military is buying them. The Mark 6 with a Horus (either the H59 or Tremor2-can't remember) and the capped windage turret was basically developed for the military although I have no idea if it's been adopted yet and if so to what extent; and the military is buying S&Bs with Horus reticles as well.

I don't think you can get a H-59 in a Leupold only the H-58.
Absolutely not a thing wrong with today's upper end Bushnell scopes

You're right, I always forget to make the distinction between the H58 and 59.
Leupold is offering the H58 and Tremor 2 on certain scopes. Bushnell, NF, and S&B are offering the 59 (I'm sure there's others as well). Oddly, USO basically refused to "upgrade" their choice of Horus reticles. A friend of mine was in the process of ordering a USO and they told him they had no plans to offer the H58 (this was last year) so he went S&B instead.

Just silly? Bushnell is looking for someone to fill this position
