I'm thinking about building a shorty 308 and having it threaded for a suppressor with plans on
Picking one up down the road. I'd like to keep it on the lighter side so what diameter at the muzzle can I go down to and still have enough shoulder to tighten up against? I don't want to run any special adapters or threading.

Assuming you thread to 5/8, your threads will be 0.625in. I prefer a minimum diameter of a penny, 0.75in., as a convenient measure to ensure a shoulder. As a norm though, I'd rather have a heavy varmint or greater diameter, generally 0.80in or larger.

I have a Model 70 with a BOSS on the end. I had someone turn an adapter for the 9/16 threads that are on it. The adapter has enough of a shoulder that is should be able to accept a 5/8-24 can. Just waiting for the stamp to come back.
