Some days you shoot good, some days you dont, was it the humidity?

Went out yesterday to finish my shootoff with 2 loads that have shot well in the past, 41.6 & 41.9grs H4350. Now on saturday when I shot those smalish groups the humidity was lower than yesterday, I'd say a difference of 30% or so, and about 5 degrees temp, if that any affect on how the rifle shot yesterday I'll never know, I also was holding the rifle on the harder side, even harder than on saturday, think Ill go back to a lighter hold or something in between. based on these groups Id have to go with 41.9grs, at 600 it always gave me good vertical, too. So my questions is, how much does higher humidity have on the bullet for shooting small groups?

Playing around with humidity changes on JBM, it doesn't seem like humidity effects the bullet much. Air Pressure and Temperature have more of an effect.

Humidity does not effect it very much at all. Out past 1200 yards is where I would try to compensate for humidity a tad.

How was the mirage?

No mirage on Wednesday or last sat, had some today but thats when I decided to wrap it up and save the last 10 shells so I could to a head to head comparison doing a primer test using 210Ms vs BR2s. Shot 4 more groups today, my best today was 1.267" with the 41.9grs. 300, as usual.

I'll be using this target again when I compare the primers, I dont expect much of a difference really. As you can see, had a nice group going with 41.9 and had a flyer right, wind, which was no more than 3mph or so, was pretty much coming from the south, Im shooting to the north.

jesus, for 300yards that's really good JGorski!!

I still see many X-rings in your Fclass future. I do wish there was a way for JBM to calculate for the effects of humidity on the shooter. If it is really humid I generally can't shoot for crap and shotgun the target.

Funny you should mention that, my very first 600yd BR comp shooting my 6mmREM, my first group wasnt all on paper but the guy in the pits said I had an 8" group, then my 2nd group I got 5.398", temps were in the 86-87 Degree range, humidity was thru the roof, I stopped right there and went over to the 100-300 yard range shot a group at 300, 200 and 100, the moa was exactly the same that I just shot at 600yds, barrel was so fucking hot, you couldnt touch it for more than 2 secs. So much for blaming the humidity on that day, 6mm is the bottom rifle.

Damn it! The avg for the right side(41.9grs) should be 1.249", the left(41.6grs) should be 1.361", I divided by 6 instead of 5, DOH!!

The only way humidity could have impacted your "tactical" shooting at 600 yards is if it somehow softened the ground beneath the bench you shot off.

Well it could make a difference in how you handle the rifle. If you are very sweaty and greasy from the humidity then your position could degrade faster than on a good dry day. You also may be just more uncomfortable in general so your mental game may not be 100%. I know I have a harder time focusing when its sticky out. Just a thought.

Oh, it's not that humid out, not sweaty or anything like that, now that first 600yd BR comp, very sweaty that day, everybody was soaked, even the lone gal, (Chris) thought she just came from a wet t-shirt contest, haha. But seriously, my hold I believe is pretty consistent, smooth trigger pull & all that, when I seat the bullets the neck tension seems very consistent, runout is next to nothing. The primer test might reveal something, BR2s have shot more sub inch groups than the 210Ms, so far anyways. Sadly, today calls for t-storm and higher winds, tomorrow is going to be even worse.
damoncali, I'm out there, just waiting for better conditions to rule out weather.

if by humidity you mean how many beers the night before then yes, it could influence the results.

so drink the night before you go shooting, simple. We just solved your problem bro.
cheers.

Perhaps it wasn't humidity, but rather the Lord was trying to teach you humility. I find that this sport humbles everyone on occasion. Everytime I think i can shoot, humility shows up.

Yeah, these small groups gets your hopes up, then the next day you shoot and they're all dashed! Such is the sport of shooting.

Well, I haven't shot competitively for a while now, but (speaking as an NRA Master even still now the holder of a national record) the difference between OK and great is about 98% mental...A lot of people think that shooting is a sport where a person with PHYSICAL gifts does well, but if you have the right PHYSICAL gifts, the discriminator then becomes MENTAL. Oh...yeah...you CAN NOT have two cans of Mountain Dew for breakfast and expect to do well.........(That is the other 2%).
