Just got my dream gun AI AE MKII
I want to do everything right the first time can anyone here give me some pointers
Cleaning,lube,maintenance etc

It's crazy how good these rifles are. I am just now fine tuning a load for my MKIII, but it may not yield anything. I have put several types of ammo through it and it seems to shoot everything the same. It really makes everything seem way too easy.

I never cleaned my MkII Until it was sold... just saying.

Though I did clean my AX recently after about 1500 rounds, to include over 80 shooters at the SHC using it in a Night Stage... I cleaned it sometime after that cause all those hands funked it up.

Just shoot it... spray some wipe out in it for about 10 minutes and punch it out, you're done.

Were both these 308's?

The bolt cycling is very smooth but it was pretty dry I put a little frog lube on now it's very sticky so do I need to keep the bolt body dry on these ?

I've never used lube on mine, from time to time I pull the bolt and wipe it down with a rag to clean some of the crap off it.

Lowlight...If you have GAP's, AW's and AX's readily at your disposal, why do you still employ AE's. Im asking because I am weighing the options as I save funds for an AI. Thanks in advance.

I shoot my AE all the time, I love my MkIII... It's the same barrel & bolt as the AX/AW so what difference does it make. A good rifle is a good rifle. The AE is just as good as the AW, so I use it.

I have access to everything, I still use my AE more than most other rifles in my collection.

Thank you!!! You are a Gentleman and a Scholar!!!

<-- AW

Unless you really want / need the features the AW offers, buy the AE. It is an outstanding rifle and represents a great value.

Also, since you asked - I added some skate tape to the bottom of the forend (over the slick metal and covering the handstop holes) for grip. I added mash hooks for my sling, and took some sandpaper to smooth out / even up the skins at the high cut under the trigger guard b/c it was causing a blister. I also took part of an old pair of Carharts and fashioned a cover to go over the slick cheek piece. I clean and lube somewhere in the 500ish to 750ish round range, redo the anti seize on the threaded muzzle, and may add a little at the receiver end every 4th or 5th time I spin off the barrel depending on how it looks.

Other thoughts - spend a lot if time dry firing in all formal and odd positions so as to get your set up (eye relief / LOP / cheek piece) perfect. Then shoot the crap out of it.

Man this thing is heavy but built like a tank

Trust me, you will love it. I put Froglube on the bolt too...I thought it made it alot smoother than it already was.

Ive had my AIAE MKIII chambered in 308 for about 3 months now.
I am still in awe on how this factory rifle is so well built, and how it so damn accurate.
My hard earned money was very well spent.

How long is the wait on a new MKiii? Just missed the .260 I was looking at. Good find Ring!

I ordered mine in mid-March and was told late summer by EuroOptic. It showed up about 2 weeks ago if that helps. Mine is a .260 in a DE folder.

308shooter1911, I just went through the same thought process as you are going through. I was going to save up for an AW or AX but once I had my money I REALLY started to think about it and decided to go with an AE MkIII. I ordered a MkIII with everything I could possibly want on it from Mile High and I could not be happier with it. I still had enough left over for a nice AR so everything worked out. The AE MkIII is an amazing rifle that will shoot lights out and make you very happy.
