I'm sure this is probably not kosher, but could anyone here look up an IL license plate for me? I can't pay for lookup of an IL plate online. I'd like to know who the PI is that's taking pics of my kids.

If there's one thing I can assure you of, it that my local PD will not be helpful with this.

I cant help you, but I can tell you one thing if I had kids and someone was taking pictures of them I certainly would be doing what your trying to accomplish. I would want to know everything about that person from the time they woke up and went to sleep. I would probably go as far as hireing my own PI to follow them just so I knew where the SOB was at.

I sure hope someone here can help you.

If someone is taking photos of your kids, walk your ass up to him and ask him who the fuck he is and why he is taking photos of your kids. Who cares if he's some PI, dude takes photos of my boys, trouble just happened in the form of a pissed off dad carrying a pick axe handle! I don't need a cop to handle that kind of stuff, shit, it's my kids, MY damn responsibility, no one elses!

I agree with the sentiment Switchblade & Slapchop. I know who is paying them ultimately, I want to know who the individual is as a person. The guy that has been around the last two days was around here last year and got drug out of a minivan at gunpoint by the Sheriffs dept.

Forget the chest thumping urge to confront the guy. If your EX or someone else is paying a PI to follow you, confronting them will not do you any favors in the eyes of the law or the courts and you have no record of the surveillance happening. Call the PD and explain that there is an unknown vehicle in your neighbor hood with a man in it who you think is a pedophile taking pictures of your kids and other neighborhood children and ask for a patrol car to check it out, give them the license plate number and have them go question the guy. Now you have it on record that said individual was indeed in the area as you claim if ever you need to substantiate it.

This is starting to sound like baby mama drama. If that is indeed the case then belay my last.

It sounds like there is more to the situation if it's been going on for over a year already.

This has absolutely nothing to do with my ex wife. This is related to an ongoing lawsuit that I have against my local P.D. Trust me, I have absolutely nothing against cops; I worked in L.E. briefly and have friends and family who are L.E. The case is totally f'ed up, and would take longer to explain than it is worth. Let's just say that I had an encounter with someone who is no longer wearing a badge.

There is more than one way to skin the cat. Get your own camera, get some good photos of the mans face, and van. Make a couple of hundred flyers, do not say the man is a pedophile, as you have no real reason to make such a statement, but rather warning parents to be on the look out for this guy, as he has been seen taking photos of children in the area (they can think what they want), a photo of van and license number would also be helpful. Be sure to put something along the lines of, "Do not approach, call LE, let's keep the kids safe....". Spend a little time handing them out to parents in the surrounding area, play ground, apt bldgs. etc.. Perhaps someone else will kick his ass, etc. But when and if something like that happens-you'll be questioned, be sure you don't state a single lie, if someone takes it the wrong way, that's their problem. Good luck...

This^^^^^^^^ is probably the best ideer.

Not as much fun as you could have, but probably the best way to go.

Trust me. I bend over backwards for my neighbors. Last year when this was going on, the entire neighborhood kept me entertained with the stuff they did. If this knucklehead is out there tomorrow morning, I'm going to Dunkin Donuts and getting him coffee and breakfast. That'll throw him for a loop

Think it out and think about unintended consequences. You have to do something and you need to be smart about it. I like the flyer idea. I like the idea of SUSPECTED of taking pictures of children. I would ask the neighbors is anyone know him and if not, I would add unknown to our neighbors. Folks don't like the unknown when it comes to their children.
Good luck.

This would be every parents nightmare, the impending abduction of their kids...

The flier idea is solid. Make it intentionally vague so that imaginations will run wild.

Can you escalate this, legally? By this I mean; bypass the police and go straight to the District Attorney?

Record everything (photo / video / audio would be a thought...also look at the Nextdoor application (assuming your neighborhood uses it) that is gaining quite a bit of traction lately. We use it here and bet your ass if you look out of place it will get blogged up in a hurry to include photos and license plates / vehicle and occupant descriptions info, etc...

Here's an example of a blog on Nextdoor:

"Saw a dark Ford Expedition parked outside 3626 Shady Grove around 4:15 this morning when I was walking my dogs. Two guys were inside just sitting there. The car was still there when I left for work 40 mins later but it pulled away as i circled back around. I followed them and they circled around the neighborhood but I pulled off to the side to call the Sheriff. I saw that car parked in front of the same house a few weeks ago. Not sure if they were waiting for someone or not but with the recent break in, I figured better safe than sorry. The license plate number is 035 YHK."

Start calling the state police, and your state's attorney general on this matter.

If you worked in LE then you would understand what sort of bad place you could put someone in for looking up that information for personal purposes let alone disseminating it outside of criminal justice agencies. That can get a person in some serious heat.

Call the vehicle in as a suspicious person/vehicle to the local LE if you must. If it is related to the PD or a PI then good luck. If you are in a public place you have no expectation of privacy.

I'm a dick, if this was me there would have been a casual encounters ad in the men for men section with a location and vehicle to meet in every day he was sitting there. There would be so many queers walking to that car your neighbors would think you're throwing a sausage convention.

License plate info is privileged information just like drivers license info and is typically only accessible by DMV and LE and you better have a good reason to look it up. A few years ago several LE Agencies in FL got the shit sued out of them after they looked up a deputies info that pulled over and arrested another LEO in a marked unit for speeding. They were able to see exactly what was looked up by who and they had a lot of answering to do. There have been other lawsuits in similar instances so anybody looking up this info for you is putting their ass on the line.

The easiest way to find a owner of a vehicle is through the vin. Pretty much every car dealership has access to information from the vin and it's not hard to find somebody willing to look it up for you. I'd walk up and confront the asshole and get his vin number, nothing illegal about it as its displayed in plain view. There is a good chance though that a PI working for a PD will have his vehicle registered under a business, of he's smart he does anyhow, and if he's smart it won't be his home address for this very reason. That's more legwork you will have to do... I like the Craigslist method...

Filing this one away for future reference, inspired genius.

I really like the CL idea. I never thought of running the VIN. I got it off of their vehicles last year.

If there's one thing I can assure you of, it that my local PD will not be helpful with this.

No PD will be helpful with that. Its a good way to violate your NCIC restrictions and get in a world of hurt.

License Plate Lookup

A good wrist Rocket slingshot sending ball bearing projectiles ( 1/2 to 3/4" OD oughta get-r-done ) at him from a covert position might make him think twice where he is parking ;-) just make sure you do it discreetly !
The argument being that assault with a dangerous weapon is best done discreetly?!

Or are you counseling that this would only be engaging in malicious property damage?!

License Plate Lookup

Question: If you communicate to someone that you don't want him to follow you around anymore, if he then continues to do it would he be in violation if your state anti-stalking statute? If so, all you need is his license plate, not the information contained in the motor vehicle record.

I think id get a camera, and start taking pics of him, his vehicle, his lic plate, and maybe start tailing him, and taking pics of him where ever he goes. maybe hire a pi to tail also and take pics. id also put those pics on a flyer and print 5000 of them and stack them everywhere.

Firstly as stated, no department or officer can legally provide you with license plate information, its more or less a career ending move or close to it. NCIC will pull your access immediately after they discover the issue....inherently making you as a cop unable to do alot of what's required for the job.

Now, if the local police department is not going to cooperate with you call the Sheriff's department. Don't think for a second that because you have a local PD you MUST deal with them. Because you live in the county and have an elected official running the S.O. you have a LEGAL RIGHT to deal (by request) with a deputy.

If it's a matter of a failure to listen to your concerns, as shitty as it is maybe these specific officers just are not working out and need to go, there is a command structure for a reason. Request an audiance with a supervisor (Sgt.) And climb that ladder until your concerns are met. If the communities interests are not being looked after and protected then the higher up need to know this, you will be surprised ad to how disconnected some of the brass can get sometimes. I've seen too much of a trend to Police the people instead of Policing FOR the people.......

Its that way here in Minnesota, I was going to include that disclaimer but forgot it. Here in Minnesota, the county is ultimately responsible to take all of the calls for service if no local PD is around. The reporting party does have the right to request to speak with a deputy directly even if the local PD is on duty. In fact we do have a particular officer that locals refuse to speak with in another town, he gets bypassed a few times a night.

This little drama reads like Free Legal Advice Hotline versus Dear Abby. There is no solution other than jacking up the asshole, if you're up to it; which is probably more bad advice? BB

My kid has the best idea ever! He says:
Take a photo of the guy taking pictures of the kids, then tweet his ass as a potential child abuser, and at the same time take a cell video and you tube it as the same thing. Watch how fast he disappears

I think the kid is on to something here!

Depending on your desperation status, I would do one or more of the following;

Get a couple buddies to "suddenly" box him in at his parking spot, you could then take advantage of the chance to speak with a captive audience.

T'would be a shame should someone have an inconvenient fender bender with him, thus forcing the legal need to exchange contact info, as well as LE attendance. (though obviously this would not favor you in a legal battle ((IF you did it))

Would also be a shame if he were to incur several flat tires while parked near your residence, again giving you a chance to confront, and investigate. You could come out and offer a hand with the jack.

Perhaps a call to LE alleging suspicious activity in the vehicle, and then overhear (hide near-bye, or use audio equipment) the "who are you and what are you doing here" conversation.

Many more ideas could help you out here, I really like getting a picture of the guy, and sharing flyers and such. Good luck.

Are you concerned for your and your family's safety? Is he repeatedly following you about in a manner that is calculated to raise alarm? Then file criminal stalking charges against him with the SO. At the very least they will FI (field interview) him and get his ID data and an explanation of what he's doing there, which you should be able to get from the SO under open records laws.

Next question is why do you think he's shadowing you? Did you claim a debilitating injury as the result of an encounter with the police and he's trying to catch you playing volleyball or lifting weights or something? Insurance companies do this all the time with workmen's comp and health insurance cheats, and there's very little you can do about it if he's staying on public property and a discreet distance away from you. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy in your activities off your property or which can be legally observed from off your property (like your yard/open garage), so you're not likely to be able to get him to stop because if the insurance company is paying you a settlement based on claims you made of injury/disability they have every right to try to catch you doing something you claimed you'd never be able to do again so they can bust the settlement.

If you're completely legit and don't show signs of faking, he'll eventually get tired of watching and the insurance company will move him on to someone else.

If I had to hazard a guess, given the vagueness of your interaction with the police, this is what I'd guess is going on.

Note that I am NOT saying in any way, shape or form that you ARE faking anything, merely that this is likely why you have a shadow, unless you're a major drug dealer or a spy.

Altnews, you're partially correct. I am suing my local PD, but not for some bogus stuff. They tasered mea and then beat the crap out of me at an accident scene two years ago, thinking I was one of the drivers; I was merely giving first aid to a total stranger. After they were committed to their stance that I was a drunk driver, they finally found the driver, pinned under a vehicle. So.... To try to cover their asses, they charged me with obstructing a peace officer, then added battery. I repeatedly asked for an apology and them to drop the charges. They refused, and made it a personal issue. Needless to say, I took it to trial and they got humiliated. The officer who attacked me lied like a little kid, and the jury could see it.

Not long after the trial ended, the slimeball and a couple of his friends started to stalk my wife and do other ridiculous things. I had enough of it all and filed a lawsuit. Then the fun began.... That all ended around a year ago, and things have been peaceful up until lately, now that depositions are nearly complete. There were the incidents last week, but they definitely went too far today. While I was at work 65 miles away, my wife calls me and tells me someone has been following her for approximately 20 miles. From the dentist, to my house, then about 20 miles to a store where he waited outside and began following her again. She lost him at a stoplight, but this retired 11B is at his breaking point. My wife is 7 months pregnant and they want to do shit that could get her flustered and possibly have an accident. There is no punishment that would deter me if that happens.

So you are saying that someone, because of a civil suit that is ending, wants to follow your wife in order to make her nervous enough to cause an accident?

Given the numerous other possible explanations for being followed, like defense counsel PI or an insurance company to confirm the legitimacy of the damages you claimed, your assessment of maliciousness sounds a bit far-fetched.

Have you or your wife never called dispatch, or 9-11, to report and investigate a suspicious vehicle following you or parking outside your house?

Shit happens. Why the drama?

No, I'm saying that I think they were following her in hopes of finding me. The fact that they followed her around made her antsy. Messing with me is one thing, harassing my family is a totally different one. I've never tried to claim that they have physically incapacitated me. We have called the Sheriffs office several times, as have our neighbors. One of them got pulled out of his vehicle at gun point by a deputy. What I find malicious is the ex-cop and a couple of his crooked friends exiting their jurisdiction to sit in front of my house, the constant drive-by's, pulling my wife or myself over at will, and other things. I presented photos of all these things to the attorneys. All I ever asked for, and want is an apology, and they are incapable of that. I understand that shit happens when your adrenaline gets going, but a real man will admit he was wrong after the fact.

It isn't as if I am some degenerate. I am heavily involved with helping my community, don't go out starting problems, and am a successful professional. Resources in my area could be better utilized to address the influx of heroin and Krokodil rather than bothering a guy who they have already done wrong to. Also, they have tried to settle for increasing sums of money, but it's not about the money; ALL proceeds WILL go to charities of my choosing.

I wonder what Timothy Mcveigh would do in a situation like this? Just kidding, I would hire the best lawyer money could buy and handle it through our great justice system.

I catch someone taking photos of My family I will not hesitate to ask who they are. Maybe you should take a few pictures of your own then maybe ask them how that pavement taste under your truck or if they like the color of the carpet their wrapped up in?

just a thought

So this all started because there was some sort of vehicle accident, you being the good Samaritan that you are decided to render first aid to one of the victims of said accident and upon police arrival, you were beaten and tased simply for giving first aid? Is that the gist of what started all this or are you leaving something out?

Seems like there is more to the story here.

Surprisingly, there isn't much more to the story. The yahoo that started the incident was freaking out as soon as he saw all the blood. He has managed to be fired from two departments so far (in union controlled Illinois). This department that he was at at the time o this incident actually hired him at his disciplinary hearing that would've resulted in his termination from another department. He had multiple incidents involving alcohol on duty, lying to IA, and beating people in handcuffs. The only way I could've encountered a more colorful character with a badge would've been Drew Peterson. Our mayor is a retired police chief who is scamming a pension in the ballpark of 170k, makes 35k as the mayor, is a superintendant of a one school school district paying 140-ish, and is the liquor commissioner. Hard to believe, but Illinois really is that corrupt.

And why exactly are you staying there? Even if all that bs wasn't go on I'd still be packing up to evacuate that commie state.

Trust me... I want to leave. Even if just to get to Wisconsin.

I am not even going to say what I will do. It wont be pretty. People have no right to sit in a car and take pics of any kids thats not condoned from the parents. I don't care two shits what the laws say. I will do anything to protect my family, and he seems to be up to no good. I live in the country he wont be missed. especially after what has been going on around here the past couple years.

They were duct taped and killed, almost looked like they were interogated.
