Magneto Speed V2 fits on my 16" Covert but you need to remove the rails.

Another solution for the Magnetospeed would be to add a suppressor to the barrel.

Yes....have one on order, but I have to wait for dta to build it then wait on the form 4....I don't want to wait that long to use my magnetospeed that got delivered today

I have used DTA suppressors and they are great. I really like how light they are. If you don't want to wait as long, and can get out of your DTA order, I would strongly recommend that you look at Thunder Beast. I have their 338BA, 30BA, and 30BAS and they are awesome.

I went with the Thunder Beast Arms 30BA due to availability and the ability to use it with the 1/2x24 and 5/8x24 threaded barrels. Just got a serial number last week and waiting for the Form 3 to clear before I can submit a Form 4. My guess is September 2014 before I can mount the Magneto Speed to it.

I have damn near a year invested on my DTA suppressor (ordered mid Jan 2013) I'll give it a couple more months then I am going to be pissed beyond belief. I already have the 338 QD brake on all my barrels so a year in time plus these brakes is what is keeping me hanging in there. Nick told us that although the DTA is not the quietest can, it's definitely the most accurate.

I just received 2 stamps and they took 8 months. 8 longggggggggggg months.

Agreed. Got to get the Form 4 in because the wait time for that is extreme. I ordered mine in April and after all the paperwork etc. The ATF says won't be ready until March 2014. However, With this Gov Shut down it's even delayed even longer. Than we got to tack on the changes they are trying to make in December to see how that will effect the forms already in. SMH.....

I read it but I don't get what it'll do please explain? Is the wait going to be longer or shorter, is it going to make it harder or easier to obtain a suppressor? Thanks

I received my DTA last fall, and since getting, I’ve mostly been working on load development pretty much the entire time. My DTA is in 300 win mag, and a lot of the recipes I’ve tried have been recommendations from here on The Hide. The most popular is the combination of H1000 and 208gr Amax. I had absolute no luck with any combination I tried with H1000 and 208 Amax. I started with a ladder test, which told me almost nothing, and I then went on to just shooting groups at 100yds with different combos. I got something that worked OK, and it shot pretty consistent out to 750. However, after 750, the round started doing crazy stuff, like being a foot off in elevation (high or low). I’ve been shooting for a fair amount of time, but came to the conclusion that I must suck fairly bad. I had a seasoned buddy try my same load out of my rifle, and he couldn’t shoot it well either. I was a bit frustrated to say the least, as I had gone through about 250 rds and still hadn’t gotten something solid figured out.

Zak, from Thunderbeast, recommended trying H4831SC, and I’m so glad he did. I tried a few different loads, and things tightened up significantly! I experimented with seating depth this weekend, and finally got a solid load that I feel good about going forward with. My best 5 shot group was right about a quarter of an inch at 100yds. Below are a couple of pictures. The first being on paper, the second was the cardboard behind the paper with a dime for comparison.

Using the Hornady O.A.L gauge, the 208 A-max touches the lands at around 3.606 in my rifle. From there, I experimented with seating depths at 3.606, 3.595, and 3.585. My best results were with a 3.595 seating depth, which is about 0.010 off the lands. I got good results with 3.585 as well, but I pulled a round and the group didn’t look as nice, though I think going with 3.585 would yield good results as well. Below is what worked well in my rifle, but of course this isn’t going to work for everyone, but may give you some ideas:
Winchester Brass, already fire formed, and cut/chamfered/de-burred with Giraud case trimmer to 2.610 after having been neck sized using the 0.333 bushing in a Redding die on a Forster press.
71.5 grains of H4831SC
208 A-Max
COAL of 3.595
Federal GM215M Primers

Average Velocity - 2,881
Extreme Spread - 41
Average Deviation - 13
Standard Deviation - 16
Energy - 3,836

The bipod is a GG&G Extreme duty and the suppressor is a Thunderbeast 30P-1. I’m using a Vortex PST 4-16x, FFP MRAD with the DTA Rings with inserts. After yesterday, I’m seriously considering getting a S&B PMII 5-25x. The Vortex is solid, but I feel like it’s definitely a bottleneck at this point in terms of clarity and reticle thickness.

It will make it more difficult. Everyone listed on your trust will need to submit photos, fingerprints, and a background check. I think that sums it up some of you experience guys can feel free to chime in. Head to the Suppressor sections for more info. With that being said I believe with the fear of the unknown change in December. Everyone might be trying to purchase a suppressor just so they don't have to deal with any new rules regarding the trust route. Again if you got any more question just head to the Suppressor thread so we aren't flooding DTA's thread with off topic stuff.

Any idea when conversion kits will kits will be shipping? I have a 260 Rem kit paid for at my dealer and I’m just waiting for it to arrive. Shooting season is nearly over and I would sure like to get my kit in sometime soon.

Man, I wish I knew! I heard that they were taking anywhere from 3 months to get a conversion kit in. I went ahead and just bought a 260 barrel and Mag from Mark at Short action customs and ordered a bolt from my dealer. My dealer said the bolt should only take about 3 weeks, but it's been over 4 weeks now, and I've yet to see it.

Your going to love your 260 Rem from SAC. I got a 28" Bartlein 8-Twist from Mark and this thing is shooting fast and lights out. So fast, I had to email Russ and see if he's seen what I'm seeing. I'm running 140gr Amax's with H4350 at 2930fps and can probably run to 3000fps per Quickload.

All of this shopping for a new rifle is tough. Trying to decide between one maker or the other without some hard info comparisons between the two is borderline manic.

I am looking at both the DTA and the APO rifles. APO seems to combine a series of parts from different mfgs into one complete system. DTA seems to make their stuff in house almost wholly. Is there any difference in accuracy between the two (300 win mag)? Weight differences? Length differences I know are going to be the lynch pin and a total win for DTA. I can't really seem to find all of the options available for putting an APO rifle together either. Looking for info and options on putting together an ASW rifle in 300 win mag.

Can anyone explain the differences between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 SRS systems? Randomly picked through 20 pages of this thread and didn't see anything. Don't really want to dig through the other 80

No one has answered you question yet but I pretty sure this was asked within the last 5-8 pages. Just take a gander there and see what comes up. If you are in the market for a DTA rifle I would suggest reading all 100+ Pages. That's what I been doing while waiting for my rifle. It's interesting like watching something grow, reassures that your 4.5k investment is worth it, learn about how great their customer service is.

Nice! That's what I like to hear! Before I bought my barrel from SAC, I couldn't find a lot of really good first hand experience. I went with the 26" Bartlein with 8 twist. I'm stoked! I was really concerned about weight, but then found there's not a TON of difference in weight to be worried about. That's great to know about the Amax's as well! I've had great luck with 208 Amax's in 300 win mag, but wasn't sure how the 140 Amax's would work in 300. They're a good bit cheaper, so I should order some.

Right now, I have 300 pieces of lapua brass, 300 139gr scenars, and 3 lbs of H4350 ready to go. I've also got about 9lbs of H4831SC that I use in 300 win mag, that I'd like to try for the 260 as well. It'd be cool to be able to use one powder between both calibers, but these days, it's also good to diversify.

Just the barrel difference I guess. No big deal. Bought one off the hide already. Just the .308 22" setup for now. Thinking about going .338LM next

I did that exact thing. Took me weeks to read everything, but I read every single post while waiting for my rifle. Which I just got a picture of from the cerakote guy with its new paint job. Can't wait to get it back and put together.

Did you already received it yet? Was it the Gen 1 or 2? Congrats btw!

Sweet Spray I wanted something similar to that scheme but maybe different color. I think i'll wait a few years for my rifle to get dinged up a few before getting some work done. Thanks for sharing!

Is there a story behind the pink B52?

Just noticed this on Marks youtube channel. The .223 option is nearly done. Is there nothing this man can't do. My 375 conversion he made is perfect. This will be next. Keep up the good work Mark

What brass are you going to use? What length did you go with? Pic's please, he is in the process of spinning me one up as well. Will be waiting to see the range report.

Was out shooting HTI today with factory DTM 352's. Five shot group at 975yds, 6". Could have covered four with a business card.

Russ can make ammo! :)
Great shooting! Do you have the .50 BMG conversion for your HTI as well? If so what kind of accuracy with the .50 at that range?

Congrats, can't wait to get mine, now stretch it's legs and let us know how it fairs

This was a customer's rifle. Yes, he has a 50 conversion too... but I refuse to shoot it for him. I spent a couple years shooting 50's... and completely lost interest. They are only good for carrying payload and impressing people. I don't care to do either.

The ONLY thing I cannot stand about this platform is the bolt and how far it juts out of the rifle. Is there a way to cut that sucker down and make it a slightly lower profile bolt, yet maintain functionality? As with all bolt action rifles, I do not like the look of bolts sticking so far out, being an eye sore. Has anyone made a lower profile bolt for this gun?

its a thing you do once and don't have the urge to do it later. Unless you shoot them competitively, or shoot elr, or have another reason.

wel,wel......... so this is where everyone is! ive been shooting handguns most my time. and bout 3yrs ago got into longr distances, and my budy told me about the dta. looked it up and found great things said about it, so i ordered one very long time. knowing how crazy things are with firearms and all the piles of crap being passed. i was just about to give up on it and get my bread back, tell i found this forum. so i see everyone is waiting on pins n needles to go play with it. btw congrats to anyone who has received thers!! cheers to you! so in the mean while PATIENTLY waiting i grabbed a pof 308 win/nato 20 inch barrel to play with. but i must say, i cant wait to see that dta.... but if it means keeping the american people working and buying from americans, im all for it!! we the people need to stand togther. but what i was wondering...... what is attached to that dta in the pic on this page? and what does it do? thank you

Its a chronograph it measures the speed the bullet is traveling. Its made by ssk industries (correct me if I'm wrong) and its unusual since its mounted to the gun rather than just a thing on a tripod. Also try introducing yourself some people get annoyed when you don't, they just like to know a little of people backgrounds but if you don't feel like letting out that info it's perfectly fine. We're on here to learn and let off some steam. Welcome.

I have been waiting for a DTA SRS A1 22" 308 I ordered in Feb, which hopefully will be arriving soon. However, about 6 weeks ago lucked into a 1 month old DTA SRS A1 I purchased used here on the Hide and absolutely love it. Have the 22" 308 and 26" 260 & 338 conversions as well as a second 260 conversion for my 2nd DTA. Now selling my precision rifles and scopes I no longer need!

Would recommend that while you're waiting for your DTA to arrive, you should be purchasing a bipod (Atlas or Harris) and extra magazines you may want plus a good precision LR scope and mount. Then you'll be "ready to roll" when your rifle finally arrives! I am still waiting on 3 TBAC suppressors, which may still take another year.

DTA and TBAC both great companies. Great customer service and very responsive to inquiries. You'll see what all the hype has been about when your rifle arrives and you get out and shoot. Continue to be patient and good luck!

Is it legal to buy a DTA covert in Maryland? Got a guy that wants to but my covert barrel for his DTA. Any help on this would be appreciated

What your are looking at is a MagnetoSpeed V2 magnetic chronograph. MagnetoSpeed

Also, while you are waiting pick up all of the peripheral items like the Seekonk torque wrench, extra mags, optics and optics mount, extra conversions, muzzle devices, bipod, etc. otherwise, once your SRS arrives you'll wish you did.

BTW - Selling a set of brand new A1 Skins if anyone is interested: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...ctical-arms-srs-a1-skins-fde.html#post2746986

Hey Nick or Russ,

I know you guys are still backed up, but do you have a time frame when the A1 forearms will be available as an upgrade kit for the Gen 2 SRS?

Thanks,

The rifle was designed to be a tactical precision rifle. The bolt is oversized to allow manipulation with out breaking sight picture.

Having said that, the bolt handle threads into the bolt on one end and the knob on the other. I am pretty sure that you could have a machinist shorten the handle on both ends and rethread, but on the bolt side threads it would have to be clocked perfect to line up on the chassis cut out.

After all of this is done, you would have a heavier lift, and a more difficult time locating and manipulating the bolt. Also I am sure the machinist would probably charge you plenty.

i think this would be a mistake, but I hope that I have helped.

Thank you. Thats what I was hoping to hear. When I do get one I'll see how it feels. Might not change a thing.

When I read this all I could think of was cha-ching cha-ching $$$ That's a lot of money.

I called yesterday and Madison said they are waiting on the 22 inch 308 barrel for my rifle that's why they haven't finished filling out my order. Next week is when they expect to receive it then 2-3 weeks I should see my rifle.

I also agree with your recommendation. I pretty much got evvverything I need Sling with swivel mounts, Atlas bipod, SnB 5-25, Cleaning Kit, Pelican Case, American Rifle ring mounts. and an empty wallet....

Christmas came early for me....
I finally made it over to my FFL last night to pick up the package AJ from EuroOptic shipped out on Monday. It actually showed up Wednesday but I was too busy to get to my FFL to pick it up. The only thing worse than waiting for your new DTA to arrive is actually picking it up and not being able to shoot it because you don't have your barrel conversion kits yet ! If anybody has their conversion kit and wants to send it over so I can break in the barrel while you wait for your DTA to arrive, I'd be more than happy to help you out ;)
