I'm looking for a good, rugged light weight, fixed 4X with mil dots. This would go on my Model 70 Featherweight, a hunting rifle.

Am I dreaming or does such a scope exist??

If one exists, I haven't seen it. I think it would be a fairly specialized config, because it is hard to distinguish mil dots spaced that close together on 4x. They are kinda tight even on 6x. If you are dead set on using a scope at 4x, and need mil dots, the closest thing I could think of is using a FFP 3-9x dialed down to 4x. It would almost need to be illuminated to be very useful for hunting. (Actually, the Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 would be excellent for that)
Another reason you may not see that configuration, is when hold-offs are needed due to getting out there a ways past 300 yards, magnification might ought to increase some. These days, with modern scopes being SO much better than 15 years ago, variables are very closely matched in durability and light transmission.
The SS fixed 6x is close to what you are looking for, but turrets might be a little bit big on a light hunting rig though. If you are set on fixed and 4x, IMO, the IOR hunting 4x is probably the best glass out there. I'd try to steer you that way, and if needed to reach way out there, uncap the elev turret and spin er up.
There are some mil-scale 1-4x24 variables that would be nice, like the mil/mil PST or Leupy VXR.

I had a Luepy fixed power scope once. I forget the reticle but the price was reasonable.

I guess I was dreaming, wishful hoping.

The idea was for my hunting where I would seldom shoot over 300 yards. Using my MPBR I could see where the animal fit in the Mil Dots to tell me if it was in range. I'd only need to know three things, Number of Mils for Antelope, for Deer, and for Elk.

I like the field of view of the 4 X, and like the idea of not clicking or hold over/under.

This would eliminate the need for carrying anything but the rifle. Being old and lazy I like LITE.

A guy can dream.

Kraig,

The VX3 series is of course variable, but the nice thing is there is a range feature built into the power ring. It is set up for deer sized game and as you bracket the duplex reticle over the deer (shoulder to brisket) it will get you pretty close from 200-600Y.

I had the 3.5-10 on my Featherweight, but trading it out for a 2.5-8 for some more field of view in the mountains.

With a fixed x4 Leupy FX-II, and standard reticle, the subtension works out to 90Y full bracket on Antelope, 180Y half bracket. 110 full on deer, 220 half on deer, and 200 full elk, 400 the duplex over an elk.

Based on the opening being 14.7" @ 100, Y= (in/moa) 95.5 But basically if any of the animals bracket within half of the standard duplex, they should all be within MPBR (elk at full)

That's cool that the custom shop could make the Leupy for you, probably would be a cool setup, and unique. Looks to be only around 9.5 oz too.
I really like the looks of that Leupold VXR 1.5-4x24 with the Firedot SPR reticle, the more I look at it. The illumination systems on those are slick and have motion detection auto-on/off. 11.5 oz. Leupy knows how to make light weight and tuff optics.

You could always try the Leupold FX2 6x36 with LR duplex reticle. Not a mil dot but the dots in the reticle match up very well out to 300 yards.

Kraig,

Glad I saw your post and could bring it up! I handle the Leupold custom orders so feel free to send me a PM and we can chat about it or any other features you want, ie setting the parrallax for a distance of your choice.
