I have a Remington 700 action getting a Douglas HB in 300WM at IT&D. I have a Choate stock it's going on. Gonna Duracoat it and am considering how to do the camo job if I want one. Looking at Coyote Tan for the stock and OD WWII green for the barrel and action. Still wondering if I should leave it solid colors or try my hand at camo-ing it. It's not like I'm going to be humping this thing over the hills and through the woods but cool is a nice feature to add. Advice is welcome.

Aervoe rattlecan paint with a bit of old camo netting for a mask--it's not a fancy-schmancy "look nice in pictures on the internet" camo job but it prob cost me $3 in paint, only took an hour to do (prep time included), and can be easily touched up when the finish gets worn...

Any if the camo job I have done have been with spray paint. They look good enough to me.

I usually use 3 colors, any of the following in combination look good to me: brown, tan, desert tan, black, olive drab, gray, dark green, or anything similar. I just use regular spray paint made for metal and outdoors. I painted one of my duck hunting shotguns close to 5 or 6 years ago and still looks good. The paint has worn in a couple places but it doesn't make it look bad, just used.

All I do is put a base color down, then add the other two colors over it by placing some kind of grass down and lightly coating with a different color than the base color.

You can also use a stencil or netting in place of the grass and get the same results. I usually use a couple of different grasses or leaves and I try them out on cardboard before hand to make sure my color combinations and pattern work.

I like smaller leaves like on mesquite trees and bushy type grasses. Some leaves and grasses just don't work good, especially on smaller areas like the barrel. If I get a chance I'll post a picture of mine.

I've seen several threads on here about camoing you rifle and how to do it and seen some very good paint jobs (lot better than mine anyways). You may want to look at those to get some ideas.

Ohh and I don't really do any prep on mine other than taping up what I don't want paint on and just wiping the rifle off with a rag. It's pretty hard to mess it up. If you do it and don't like it just put down another base coat and start over. You can do that several times before it becomes a problem as long as you don't just poor the paint on every coat.

being the barrel isn't blued I was going to dura coat that. jenvcius that looks awesome. I guess I'll just get some camo paint and experiment. I will do the barrel in dura coat for the durability. I'd like to see some other patterns from some of you all.

I duracoated once... The amount of time and setup it took for the garage paint job that I did was a bit too much for me. Next time I'll just do the spray paint route or have a shop do it. The finish wore off rather easily too. I'm thinking a shop Cerakote would be my next option if I wanted paint.

I've had good luck with rattle cans, both Krylon Fusion and Rustoleum. The key is surface cleanliness and following the directions on the can. I clean the surface with a kitchen cleaner (generic lysol) and hot water from a shower. Let it dry thoroughly, don't touch the surfaces you want to paint, and paint according to the can - there are short recoat times and multi-day recoat times, try not to paint in between them. Adding a clear matte spray on top makes the end result more durable (I'm using Rustoleum clear matte for this, although it ends up a bit shinier than the camo paint without any clear coat).

Color is whatever you want. I find that medium tan makes a good all season base color for where I am. YMMV, etc.

This are not the best paint jobs but they suited my purpose. One is my remington 870 and the other is a remington .223. Both probably took me 30 mins a piece to paint. They are nothing fancy and I have seen much better paint jobs on here but with a little more effort you can do some pretty impressive stuff with the same method. The 870 paint job is probably around 6 to 8 years old and the .223 is probably 3 to 4 years old.

I'm probably going to do a camo job on my long range rifle before long, that one I will probably take a little more time and effort to do and will post pic if I do so. I would pobably use some differnt colors on both wepons if I was going to do it over.

This is mine I was going for a Germen Flectarn Pattern, kinda wish i was more liberal with the patterns but still like it, the finish is holding up well riding in the truck loss a lil around the crown. I used US Gun Works Firearm Coating.. I bought preval sprayes, and the patterns from buldog I believe. Took me about 6 hours but most time was just letting the coats dryer.. worth it though because the spray paint would not hold up well for me at all...

Rattle can for me. I abuse mine so any finish will wear off. The iPhone didn't really capture the color, the light color is tan, not white. My 4 year old painted the suppressor, so that's why it looks...well I guess it doesn't look worse than mine. I think it takes me longer to take pics and post them than it does to paint my rifle.

Painted to blend in with...well, I didn't want to be the only non tacticool guy with an unpainted rifle so I painted it. Cant say it really blends with the environment though.

And don't make fun of my tactical child troop transport vehicle (aka mini van) in the background.

I've used both real and fake foliage as stencils to make patters on rifles. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll post one that a buddy of mine painted on a rifle I bought from him.

I got tired of painting pretty quick though. So when I ordered my manners stock I picked out a molded camo
