Suppressors Talk me out of a 30PSS for match rifle

Currently run a 30P-1 on my 6.5CM match rifle, I originally planned to buy the 30PS as soon as they came out, but was semi disappointed in the weight savings over the P-1, so Ive been procrastinating. Now my thought process is this... There is only a handful of guys that shoot cans in matches anyway, so you have to wear plugs no matter what. I like running a can even with the additional weight, if nothing else for the principal behind it. I like the idea of a brake though for a match if they werent so GD annoying.

Enter the 30PSS. Not a huge amount larger than a brake, definitely weighs a bit more, but weighs 8oz less than a P-1. Yeah you arent going to run it without plugs, but you are wearing plugs because of all the jackasses running brakes anyway. You get most of the recoil reduction of a brake, without the noise, and only add 4.4" to the end of the rifle.

I definitely wouldnt go for the PSS if I didnt own any other cans, but I have the P-1 and a 30BA for full suppression if I want that.

Seriously though, the next suppressor I get will either be the short TT ARK30 or a 30 PSS. It will be used for competition and hunting, where I don't need absolute suppression, for obvious reasons, but length and weight are important.

Are these matches where you have to run around with the rifle? If not, weight is your friend.

The 30PSS will be approx 10 dB louder than a 30P-1 on .308, which will be very, very noticeable.

One thing I really like about running a can over a brake is you are not forced to dine on a duster sammich. It has been my experience that when running a brake and shooting on a dirt surface, hay bail or heaven forbid a sandy surface that shit flies EVERYWHERE. It's nice to have the can attached so you don't blast shit everywhere.

I do think some of the brakes today reduce recoil better than my 30P-1. I'm curious what recoil reduction is like on a typical SA 6.5 cartridge with a 30PSS.

The difference in length between my current .30 and .223 cans is 2 inches. It doesn't sound like much, but after runnin' the .30 can for a while, then switchin' back to the .223 feels like night and day. I understand what you're saying about the length and weight, but I would not spend that much dough on a can that I still needed to run muffs with. Bottom line to me, a .30 cal can that comes in under 8 inches, weighs as little as the 30PS does and still suppresses that well, is fantastic in my book.

Zak, out of curiosity in case I ever get a blk, is the suppression on that cartridge equal between the ps and pss?

All good points in favor of the ps Nate, luckily for me I don't have to worry about a tax stamp and being tied indefinitely to one can, but it is still a lot of money for something that's sole use would be in the few matches I shoot a year.

I'm sure I could probably shoot equally well with 10oz hanging off the end as with 17oz.

With subs they will be close, with the PSS being just a little louder (not noticeable over action gas noise). With supers, it is noticeably louder.

Guys the 30BAS that I have is noticeably louder than my 30BA model suppressor. It still suppresses great, but it is louder than the longer BA. That being said, I think the 30BAS would be a great choice for a comp rifle or as a good all around 30 caliber suppressor (read this as use on 300 BLK, 6mm - .30 Caliber rounds, for comp use, for hunting use, etc.)

The PSS is a great choice for a subsonic perspective. If used with supersonic ammo, it will be significantly louder than a 30BAS model, which is noticeably louder than a 30BA.

The 30BAS that I have looks great on my 10.5" 300 BLK SBR.

I went with the PSS for a 12.5" 6.8 hunting rig, where OAL is very important in the deer stand.

While I know the PSS will be louder than my 30P-1, I can take a shot without ear pro if needed and not blow my ear drums out, plus have a rather short deer busting machine.

The 30BAS that I have looks great on my 10.5" 300 BLK SBR.

i have a regular 30BA on my 8" 300Blk SBR and it looks great too. and with only being 2 inches longer, and 3 ozs heavier, it comes in as same OAL as your setup and the suppression is fantastic.

I just got a 30 P'S for my match rifle and I'm glad I went that route instead of the 30pss. I still want it to suppress what I'm doing. It saves 3 inches or so over my 30p. And adds 3 inches or so over the 30pss. So I think it's a good middle ground

The 30P is a fantastic performer. The 30PS still suppresses well, but it is noticeably louder than the 30P. I should have a PSS any day and I will let you know how it stacks up against the 30P and 30PS.
