Hey guys, after doing my "what scope should i buy" homework finally decided to go with a Super Sniper 10X40 rear focus. The gun im building a Reminton 700LTR for 600-800yds shooting.

Now i followed the advice of a couple fellow hide members and now it's time for my second round of optic questions. Bases and Rings.

Im thinking 20MOA base, maybe Larue or Seekings and some low rings but it all eludes me about how to get the exact correct height/MOA/combination ect.

Al i can say is that selecting a scope and mount for my last SPR was much more easy.

All the input will be well recieved, i dont care about brands as long as it's doable and i can grow into it.

Im considering used options too!!

Thanks guys.

J

Re: Super Sniper 10X40 Mounting Solutions

First and foremost, go read the "Ring Height Info- How to Measure Correctly" Thread. It will give you some needed insight on measuring for correct ring height.

Second, Its a 10x42mm. I have the same scope on my Savage with a NightForce 20 MOA base and Nightforce low rings. I also have the TPS ultra low rings and some Seekins Low rings but those two sets of rings are too low for the SS scope due to the rear focus knob.

Hope this helps.

Get the lowest setup you can find. I run a TPS steel base and TPS super-low rings on my 700 and its just fine. A 20 MOA base won't be necessary unless you plan to upgrade to a different scope in the future.

Question: Im at the Seekins site ( HERE ) and it says that i need to use .44 for rear height and .29 for front height.

How do i factor those in the ring height formula?

At the moment im thinking Seekins 20MOA base and Med or Med-high rings.

Please correct if wrong.

Thanks

TPS rings and bases are good for not a ton of money. Never had a problem with Warne either. If you want a canted base that's fine but you don't need it.

Re: Super Sniper 10X40 Mounting Solutions

Okay so the Super Sniper 10X42 is in the mail.
I im set on the Seekins 20MOA Short Action base for a R700LTR in .308, still need to know if the Super Sniper 10X42 will be clear when using BC caps.

Im thinking Medium height rings, please advise if i should go higher (Me-hi) or if i can get away with lower units.

Also, i will be buying from liberty optics and one of the options is a base with
"8-40" screws. both in short and long. Im guessing i don't need it but still wanted to know whats is it for.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Super Sniper 10X40 Mounting Solutions

When you get the scope in the mail........ do your own measuring to find out how high your rings need to be for YOUR particular needs. There are many tricks that can be used to find this out.....( cards, feeler gauges, coins, etc....) its up to you to find out what you need...the "How to" thread tells you everything you need to know

What i mean is that it's been ordered. Still need info on "8-40" screws.

Hey Man Can you Post a pic of that setup I'm thinking of goin with the same but don't know for sure yet

If your action is factory, you cannot use the 8x40 screws. Get the standard option. Your scope base holes in the action would need to be drilled for 8x40 screws to use it. Also long and short will reflect the action you have.

You should definitely be able to use low scope rings with a 42mm objective. I've got the 16x42 on my 700 with medium rings and a 20moa base. And have about 1/2 an inch underneath the objective bell.

Sorry for the necro-post didn't realize this had been bumped from 2 years ago
