So I have a lot of pigs and coyotes around here. Usually the farthest shot I get is about 100 yds. I already have a pvs-14. My question is, what is a better option, getting an ir laser, or a dedicated nv scope? Thanks in advance.

IR laser for inside 100 yds.

DBAL-I2 laser is nice with its high and low IR laser settings. Or a full power military laser is probably okay if you have an IR filter for it to reduce bloom.

Make sure you have a good IR illuminator to use with it...Surefire M720V, M952V, etc.

IR Laser gets my vote. Be sure to get one with a visible laser that's slaved to the IR laser. You will thank me later. Very easy to zero. Just center visible laster to center of crosshairs or red dot and your done.

I agree with everyone that an IR laser will work fine at these distances but I still prefer an optic. I hunt pigs on a regular basis for a few corn farmers. The first shot with a laser is no problem but once they scatter I prefer some sort of reticle. It's my opinion but I don't like leading them with the laser. To me it's hanging out in mid air and if it hits any kind of brush or the like it's worthless. Most of the time I run the PVS-14 behind an NV compatible EOTech w/ a 3x magnifier. I do still use a laser as I am stalking up on them in case they bolt but once I get close the 14 moves to my weapon. Like it's said above, If you go the laser route go with a slaved laser/IR unit. Makes for ease sighting in or changing optics.

I run my PVS 14 behind my aimpoint from time to time works well for the distance your talking I also have a cheap IR pistol laser and one white light with Vis laser, the limited experience I have with them tell me hogs are not weary of a vis laser, sat on a tripod stand 20' away and was burning a group of hogs and coons with no reaction from them at all. I run that set up on my car-15 when doing recovery in thick woods, looking for blood trails and have the vis laser on incase I have a close call, but it works well with the PVS-14 as well co-witnessed with the aimpoint

Ive never had a problem sighting in an IR laser. I just clamp my monocular to the rear of the optic and align the laser with the reticle/dot, then fire a few rounds helmet mounted with a rest to verify. Slaved vis/IR is sweet though, but the only thing I end up using the Vis for is sighting in.

I use the visa laser with the white light while tracking, blood and sign are hard to spot with a PVS14 when your looking for sign from 5-30 feet, that's when I turn the PVS off and go white lights on, no longer trying to be sneaky just doing recovery
