RIP Mikhail Kalashnikov

my rifle of preference. he'll be missed, and unlike you 7.62gunr he'll live on for many more years in all the rifles that are out there.
the AK series of rifles will out live most.

It will be the preferred killing tool of those that kill innocents for decades to come, its still a POS with a huge mythology built around it, not much better than the M1 Carbine as a combat rifle, if at all. I hope the commie fk enjoys his special place in hell.

I bet the people that worship or even look kindly upon this fkr are the same people that wear Che T shirts.

fuck that guy

"During the Vietnam war, American soldiers would throw away their M-16s to grab AK-47s and bullets for it from dead Vietnamese soldiers," Kalashnikov said in July 2007 at a ceremony marking the rifle's 60th anniversary."
^What a bunch of bullshit

Yep all ,mythological bullshit. Maybe after teh GI ran out of ammo and broke his blade off in some VC skull it happened, but not likely.

The outcome of ww2 might have been totally different if germany wasnt so busy with two fronts attacking them from two different directions.... Ww1 is just a whole different topic. Id be more pissed about someone driving a vw bug car than personally owning an ak47. Both really don't bother me and are important inventions during our lifetime.

I would happily carry an arsenal brand AK and im kicking myself for selling my milled AK that i owned several years ago. I might get another arsenal AK... Just down right reliable and should get about 2moa with the correct arsenal side receiver scope mounted set up.... Your basic WASR ak is a POS... Ive killed more whitetail deer with an arsenal AK than any other rifle in my collection.

Ill say RIP to the man that invented such an awesome and important part of history, and will shove the barrel of my AR up the ass of the person that points one in my direction.

Like most say on these forums... The firearm doesn't kill, its the person holding the firearm.

He didn't invent shit. He combined existing design features in the AK, look up the StG 44. Eugene Stoner was far more creative when he designed the AR.

And now Kalashnikov is a good Commie. I'd water the flowers on his grave with piss.

Screw "JIM HEINTZ "

"It was the carnage of World War II, when Nazi Germany overran much of the Soviet Union, which altered his course and made his name as well-known for bloodshed as Smith, Wesson and Colt."

Another wonderful example of objective journalism.

At least he had the decency to say he wished his rifles hadnt gotten into the hands of terrorists...

Good battle rifle, good for minute of man work, and designed (or cobbled together from other designs depending on opinion) as such, and only as such from my understanding.

If not him, someone else would have invented something strikingly similar in due time. And get real with this ripping off BS. There are no original ideas. Gas operated, rotating bolt, bla bla bla. They are all similar, form follows function. That is like saying that airbus is ripping off Boeing in aircraft design.

I would say they are coming back down from last years crazy prices but not by much..... Ive been waiting for prices to get back to normal to purchase a nice arsenal..... Milled receiver if possible but i got a feeling the milled receiver would be too much money.

so are the prices of ak going up

Some real hatred for a man who just got through suffering through the nazi occupation and was doing his duty.
I have 2 AK and really like them as a truck gun. I honestly have not had one jam in over 3000 rounds and they absolutely kill the snot out of hogs and coyotes. I like my LMT MWS better, and my ar15s as well, but the AK is a great open sight rifle.

I'm ashamed of what I am reading here.

1. You can't own an idea.
2. Incorporating the ideas of others into something new is what innovators do.
3. Kalishnikov invented something so innovative that it permanently changed the face of warfare.

Suggesting otherwise is just hating.

-1 that gun is a sloppy piece of shit that was copied from a WW2 German design. That is like giving kudos to the chinese for all the shit that they copy.

The world does so every day, by buying it, and employing a billion people.

That said, it is not the same at all. Kalishnikov refined an idea that the Germans started into a practical design that is still in use 75 years later. The German rifles never had that kind of staying power.

It is simply preposterous to not regard Kalishnikov as the brilliant engineer he was, who created a truly innovative and successful product in his time.

And for the record, I do not own any AKs, nor desire to do so. I'm not a fan of his work. I just know where to give credit when due.

The 98 Mauser had staying power as many bolt actions are still based on a 100+ year old design.

The gun shop in town has Saiga 7.62 x 39 mm "Sporters" for $500. My area is heavily wooded and hilly. We don't get many long shots around these parts. The Saiga is a cheap way to shoot and accurate enough when can't see through the woods farther than 200 yards.

Well at least if you ran out of ammo you could always club the guy with the butt end

A godless heathen he was, but he did design a rifle that does exactly what it was designed to do. And it was cheap to produce, and I would guess that is why revolutionaries and terrorists always use them.

a commie who copied german ideas..........good fucking riddance ruski.

how dare you insult glorious rifle of general comrade kalashnikov. He is saint of great soviets peoples republic of, buried in holy soil of st petersburg next to comrade lenin himself. You think m16 better? When chechen muslim come over hill and m16 hopelessly jam in stupid fat fingers of american hands, you wishing will for ak47 of kalashnikov! I can tell you this because i was soldier of great soviet state, you think m16 bring democracy to savage well ho ho i bring communism with ak47 to muslim like santa bring gift, and do it with sand in action too! Glorious milimieters of 7.62 punch through door, wall, and child to hit terrorist chechen and i, comrade soldier yurivich chomofsky serpsekski, win medals of much weight, while your milimeters of 556 bounce of blade of grass! So in closing you should watch step when rains fall of, because might be kalashnikov pissing on you from heaven for insulting great monument to soviet of, that is rifle kalashnikov!

My favorite AK was made in China. Hahahaha, where is your God now!! Fuck that commie pig, even if he did steal/invent one of the best weapons ever.

If Kalashnikov hadn't come up with an AK, someone else would have come up with something similar. In his defense, his life long dream was to design farm equipment. A damn world war can change one's direction fast, as it did millions of other men's. Regardless of who came up with what first, the reality is that the time and place and economic situation created a problem that any brilliant engineer would love to solve. He had the unfortunate luck to be born into a Communist nation, just like any one of us could have been. He rose to the top and served his country, commie bastards or not.
If some German is not getting the credit he deserves, I can't see how it matters. The AK is what went on to be the worlds most popular assault rifle because it's simpler and cheaper to produce than most European designs. If it had been John Browning or Garand who produced a simple, reliable, cheap rifle; that would have gone on to become the tool of guerrillas and rebels and we'd certainly not be disrespecting one of our own over it. He lived and died and was a part of world history, his death probably shouldn't be cheered or mourned anymore then someone like Oppenheimer.

You're crazy. Axis cars are best cars.

As for Saint Mikhail, I dumped a mag out of my AK in his honor the day he passed.

And for the rest of you, quit being so patriotic. It's unbecoming.

How is copying something brilliant? I dont know how being a tank driver and copying something make you an engineer.

You sir, are a douche

People that have successful items linked to their names regardless of their nation or politics.

Lol it does not. Hell the AK-47 sucked ass so bad they stopped production went back to the sks while real engineers fixed it. When it was re-released they called it the AKM.

dont know where you idiots got the idea an ak-74 cant shoot, but you best wake up, it is a far superior weapon than the ar is,
you guys keep your ar's i'll keep my ak's
check out this group 100 yards

12 shots at 100 yards in les than 3 seconds

So many people getting their panties in a wad and taking personal offense like someone is insulting your mother.

Credit is due where credit is due. I do believe it is the most highly produced weapon ever. That did not happen because it totally sucked.

That being said, to revere it as a highly accurate weapon is just wrong. Because it was not. I have often wondered how many more Americans would have died if the other side had a weapon of equal quality to us.

I am glad the other side chose this weapon, it gave us the edge.

In the end he was a man doing his duty, and he did it well.

you know fs1 the rack grade m-16-a2 that is given to the regular soldier typically shoots 2-3 moa at 100 meters-yards if you like. the typical rack grade ak-74 shoots the same. if we had any thing on them it was training, ammo and sites. not accuracy. many veterans and still active soldiers buy ak's as soon as they arrive home, why would that be???? i know after my experience that i knew what was a far superior weapon. the swede's were the first to use direct impingement gas system. but unlike the ar series it didnt blow hot exhaust gases into the working parts as the ar does. still in 2014 we are using a rifle that can jam and put yours or anyone's life in danger. ask those who are using it. by using plane old common sense i think it is apparent that blowing the gases into very tight tolerance parts that must move for the rifle to function can see it will eventually stop working. the ak the poles use which is in 5.56 nato is very accurate. now that american and some of the good European ammo manufacturers are producing high quality ammo accuracy is ever better. as i said above 7 whitetail deer have fallen to 1 single shot of of 7.62x39 the closts was 45 yards and the futhest was 165 yards. this tells alot more than just your as i can tell lack of experience both on the battle field and in the deer woods. the ar is a fine rifle and with add-ons it can be made extremely accurate. under sustained battle it may fail, especally if the combat is sporadic over long period of time and changing weather conditions. ak's usally dont stop firing until the trigger is released. enough of the back and forth though lets here from some recent veterans and their experiences. even better lets have 2 guys with their rifles do a field test that should be as close to true combat conditions as possible. may the best rifle win.

The only test that would mean anything to me would be one man with no relationship with either rifle, shoot both.

Sorry I don't buy the fact that returning soldiers come home wanting AK's because they see how great they are. Not saying none, just most.
