Well I ended up picking up a 300rum for a good price that already had all the work done to it so I sold off the stock that it came with and had Kyle from XLR build me one. I will say Kyle was awesome to deal with and he will have more orders from me in the future. I stole the NF w/ larue mount off one of my ar15s just for the pictures so no range report for awhile.

Heres the outcome:

Specs

XLR Evolution HD - Modified AICS 338cip mags, Folder
Rem 700 300 RUM - Trued/blueprinted by ER Shaw
ER Shaw 26" straight taper spiral fluted barrel
Rifle Basic 1 Lv trigger
Badger bolt knob
Badger 20moa base (had to cut off a few notches in the front to clear the new stock)
Nightforce 5-22x56 with NF rings ( WIll Order soon )
Harris 6-9 notched/swivel

Well the guy I bought it off of said he had it built for the heavier bullets like the 240smk's. So thats probably where I will start. From my searching so far it looks like Retumbo might be the way to go for powder.

Re: My 300RUM Build

that is very similar to what i am looking to build with my 700p ultra mag it looks very nice can you show a few more pics of the magazine

I measured the factory loads in the mag and they are 3.55 with about .20 (GAP) of room before they hit the front of the mag.

Retumbo or H1000

I'm using 4831SC in mine with SMK 190's but want to try some other bullet weights too...

Well I wish the barrel was'nt so damn heavy (18.5lbs as pictured with the scope) since its pretty front heavy, but considering I bought it all said and done and just threw it in the xlr chassis its kinda hard to complain about it. If I was to build this up from scratch I would do a Rem Varmint contour with a brake on it or something similar.

Thats about all I can think of so far, everything else is great. I absolutly love the stock and will be getting more of them.

One thing to note for anyone thinking of going with this set up or similar is that you will have to mill out a little bit of the feedramp on the reciever to make room for the extra room of the CIP mags. The ammo above feeds fine but if they slid forward in the mag they would catch underneath the feedramp as it sits right now. I dont think this would be a issue with the normal 338 aics mags but I dont have one here to check so I cant comment.

Let me/us know how that mag works for you when you start playing with loads. You measured 3.55 with a .2 gap for a total of 3.75. The load that I have worked up for my RUM is a 230 grain Berger seated 20 thousandths off the lands, and the COAL measures 3.830. I don't know if the long heavy bullets are going to work in that mag. I'm stuck with single feeding my beast.

Other than that, sexy rifle man!

Holy 3yr old thread! That rifle now wears a 338lm barrel useing the same stock and mags. I never did much with the 300rum....just was to heavy for my liking.

Ninja - I really cant remember what factory load that was in the mag, I just made the comment that 240gr was what the barreled action was made for per the origial owner.

Sniper68- That chassis is just dead sexy! I seriously dig the stock with the adjustments.
