Read where Glock is gonna release the Model 42 in 380acp in '14. Has to be step in right direction for concealed carry but I sure wish it would have been in 9mm. Like my Kahr CW9 but it sure ain't a Glock!

As a through and through Glock lover, I can say:

Who cares?

The pocket 380 craze has been over for a couple years now - because most people realized they could still pocket-carry a nice little 9mm.

Plus, this 380 isn't even "small" by 380 standards!

Good job missing the boat ENTIRELY, Glock.

Try downsizing it to Kahr PM9 size, and upping the cartridge to 9x19, and they'll have a winner - except they'd STILL be several years late to the party.

Until then, I'll keep loving my PM9.

I'm a fan of the glock platform myself and I confess this is news to me even though I woke up at 0700 today. What glock model chambered in .380 is not allowed here due to some import restrictions? Wonder how they would compare? Deep thoughts from my shallow mind....

This is probably what they are referencing

Glock 25 | G25 | 380 Pistols | GLOCK USA

The GLOCK 25 in low-recoil .380 Auto was introduced in 1995 in Germany. This small-dimension firearm was developed for markets where civilian personnel are not allowed to possess handguns featuring military calibers. In the USA, the G25, and all of GLOCK's .380 Auto pistols are reserved for law enforcement agencies only.

and like turbo, I will be holding on to my Kahr

I'd buy one. I'd prefer a single stack 9 but that's part of the beauty of glock. For $500 you have a 1000% reliable gun.

Too big,
Too late,
Still they'll sell a ton and maybe in a few years,
come out with a 9mm version.

For now, I'll stick with my Kahr.

As Turbo made reference to, it amazes me that Glock, who basically started the polymer pistol revolution, got so far behind the power curve on pocket guns. I have LONG wished that Glock would offer a true pocket pistol, since I feel as though I'm compromising dependability for portability with the others I have.
If they manage to make one in a similar size to the other options currently out there then I'd probably pick one up for the piece of mind of the Glock dependability.

<-- Glock fan, but not sure what I'd want it for.

Lightweight but sub-sonic projectile with (sub) minimal FBI protocol penetration characteristics

Physically bigger and heavier than my J-frame (340PD)

Doesn't suppress any better than a 9mm

Not sure how they missed the mark on what American consumer really wants - single stack 26.

Maybe the aftermarket will figure out how to convert it to 9mm.

If the mags will handle the COAL of 9mm, all it would take is a chamber reamer or an aftermarket barrel. I suppose a slightly heavier spring could also be in the cards.

Still, this thing is SW Shield size, not Kahr PM9 size like it oughhta be...though I guess that's just my perspective. The Shields sure have been selling nicely.

If this came out as a shield competitor it would have been on the list. In a 380 all I can say is what the hell are they thinking

I like Glocks too. They have a reputation for dependability and its part of the reason why I shoot them, but the slim line guns are a bit of design change compared to their "classic" models.

I've heard of reliabliity issues with the single stack 45 acp whatever model it is and I'm hesitant to assume these new designs will have the same Glock dependability.

No thanks. Shield size and don't want a Shield? I'll go Remington 51 all day. Street price in the low 300s, available in 9mm with 40S&W coming soon? Single action with a 1911 style trigger?

Why would I go Glock 42 when I can have that instead?

I too wish it was a 9mm but to those saying they missed the boat on the .380 craze, I'm not sure that's correct. .380 is still the top selling caliber for people new to concealed carry. I will buy one try it out and if and when a single stack 9 comes out I'll buy it and give the .380 to my wife.

This will compete with the Shield for LE guys because we have been waiting for a non-safety LE shield for over a year now and it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

I will probably get one and just run Buffalo Bore or Underwood in it.

The R51 looks like a possibility but as far as new Glocks go I'll skip the sissy 380 and Go with the G41 ...IF it becomes available

Local shop got in 10 of the G41 last week. They are a blue label dealer and probably do a lot of business with Glock so maybe they got first crack fresh off the line?

As for the 42 too little too late. I think Glock dropped the ball by going .380 and not 9mm single stack. Remington picked it up and ran with it. If the R51 is reliable they will sell a lot of them at that price. I am interested, but won't be an early adopter.

I cannot believe how ignorant Glock was to their consumers. Everyone above already nailed my thoughts but just to drive the nail in further.. WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU NOT MAKE IT IN 9mm?!

Glock guy.

I'll stick with my Sig 938 if I need to carry something small.

X2, kind of pissed to be honest.. I bought a Shield in 9mm and just don't like it, I was hoping this new Glock would replace it but I guess not!

Not a lot (or any love) for the 42.... Guess I'll be that sucker if their priced right... Hello triple taps!

I'll be there with you and give it a try. I carry a P380 daily right now. With my dress clothes I have to have something very small. Problem with the P380 is if it does have a failure good luck clearing it quickly. That goes for reloading it too. It's not had a problem since the break-in but it's always in the back of my mind. Had the same problem with my PM9. Maybe the G42 will set my mind at ease.

I'm crossing my fingers that they will offer it in 9mm in the future.

I just don't get how a company as big as Glock always seems to screw up. They are late when it comes to offering anything new. Look at the Gen 4 glocks. They were three-four years late on the backstrap idea. Who cares about a .380 pocket gun that big.

Different strokes for different folks... I personally love how thin it is while still being able to marry up... I personally don't care for pocket pistola's that require me to throw two fingers off the bottom side. I want to be able to get a firm purchase from the holster and drive that bitch like it owes me money.

However, I wish it was chambered in 9mm, the .380 is going to be one soft shooting unit... and we all know it comes down to shot placement.
