While a vast majority of you Hiders are snowed in and enduring the historic "BIG CHILL" I thought you might like seeing some shooting today at steel at 500, 700 and 800 yards. Since my suppressors have not cleared BATF yet, I was banished 20 feet to the left with my DTA with muzzle break. I shot 260 139gr Senars, 308 175gr SMK BTHP and 338LM Lapua Senars 300gr BTHP. Great fun had by all in 65 degree temp with 20-30mph headwinds. I still think this is too much fun to be legal!

Hope we all can have an early Spring.

Must be all that global warming bringing the cold weather over here. Hopefully I'll make it back to AZ at some point, though not likely until I get out, not too many navy bases in AZ :). I miss that weather and not having to pay to shoot. Looks like fun.

Haha, you are just lucky Tom let you get THAT close, shooting without a can.

I'm stuck up here in the chill, but looking forward to the next trip down to AZ. Nice spot to shoot, by the way.

-7 this morning, though we did WARM up to 6 degrees with some 3-8 mph winds.

I envy you warm weather guys this time of the year. Enjoy yourselves.

I've been looking for a desert spot to shoot at, is that close to the valley? PM me if you wouldn't mind.

Yep that's one of the nice things about Arizona.

Just yesterday a couple friends came up to Flagstaff from the Valley to shoot some long range. It was actually reasonably warm for being at 6600 alt. We were holding 2.8-3.4 mils of wind for the 1072Y steel, wind is something we Arizonians never seem to lack.

Then there's the Prescott and Ashfork areas which has comfortable temps in early spring and late fall.

Very nice for sure... Makes me HATE Maine even more! Hell I was so stoked to see 20f today after this last week I was kicking it in a short sleeve at work.

Prescott pretty much has comfortable temps all year long :). Just gets cold a few days of the yyear in the winter but the summers are beautiful. Love me 95 degrees and 0% relative himidity.

Was 40 degrees at 8AM when we started. It most certainly is a super secret spot and you can't get there from Phoenix. LOL. Been here since 1973 and wouldn't think I of living anywhere else. Great state with many different climate zones and landscapes. People are generally very friendly.

haha ya i love AZ. I have family in the southeast corner. May need to make it out there and do some desert shootin' sometime soon!

I moved to Denver recently, lived in Tucson for 20 years. Had a place to shoot long range 20 min from my house there. Looked just like your pics. This thread is making me miss Tucson!

Just went shooting today in Tucson, the Tucson rifle club, and the temps were pretty much the same as when you shot. It was about 70 degrees with 20 mph headwinds and occasional burst cross winds. The winds were not really an issue for the 200-330 meter steel targets, however the 500m stuff took a few takes. Was pretty sweet had the range to myself and my buddy.

OP: you guys have some nice rigs!

I live in Chandler Arizona, but was at the Casa Grand shooting range on Sunday morning. One of my buddies was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Haha gotta love Arizona winters.

OMG! I just about hate you right now! I got up this morning and no shit, my electronic thermometer here in NW Wisconsin said -28!! I've been itching to get out and put some rounds down range, but it has been as cold as a witch's tit around here! besides the fact you can pretty much walk out the back door of your house and shoot over 1000yards!! hate you! hate you all! ;)

why do I live in Wisconsin again?

I'm a lightweight, I guess...even having lived in Michigan 12 of the last 15 years.

It's -16°F right now with 25mph winds, real feel ~-40.

This is the coldest/worst I've ever experienced. This Global warming thing is really cramping my style. I can't stay outside more than 4-5 minutes at a time.

The Green Bay Packers????????????? LOL!

Finding a spot like that has been my biggest issue. Anything close by that is remotely accessible by car is either trashed and shut down or is reserve land. I really need to get something that can drive off road.

Our shooting spot just out side Prescott at one of out late spring shoot.

The best thing I have ever done was 20 years ago moving from L.I. N.Y to Prescott, AZ. I have been shooting every week thru December and so far this month. In fact going out again today for another shooting session. Az is a great place to live and the Prescott area is hard to beat.

I have a Polaris Ranger set up specificly for setting up steel, A jeep wont get to a lot of the places we shoot.
Remember its illegal to shoot across marked trails/roads even way out in the desert

I think that you need to bring more fire power....

Yes you are right. I forgot to take out my MG 42 although I did bring out my AIAW and TRG 22 and LMT MWS to shoot when things got boring shooting the class 3 stuff.

I've lived in the phx valley for just over 10 years. One thing is for sure.... You don't have to shovel sunshine!

I need to make it out there sometime. My wife's aunt lives there in Prescott. I would love to go out there to shoot. Even tried to talk my wife into moving out there (after Wyoming).

That is my next step is to do some matches. xmas was good. Girl got me bushy ERS 3.5-21, dbm, and harris bipod. Should be competitive if I can do my part and have fun non the less. Would be curious to where the matches are. Do you have any Arizona links?

i feel your pain.. Fellow ND resident here. I did get the chance to shoot the one day we had 35 degrees last sunday tho.

I had a backache the other day from................................................shoveling sunshine, NOT! See ya in the desert Sunday shooting to a 1,000 yards, hope the 75 degree weather doesn't effect my powder too much. lol

We have been having quit a few days in the negatives with a day that was -35 (with the wind chill). What ever happen to global warming, Bastards.

That spot looks great, anywhere close to Queen Valley area? The areas we usually shoot out over there are often over-run with the ATV's and dirtbikers. Always looking for a new, low key place to shoot where we can get the steel out to some good distances. That area doesn't look too terribly overgrown either, PM me a general area if you don't mind.

We were up North off Table Mesa Road. Many good areas there-some crowded and others not so much. If I give more specific information, if would be staked to an anthill covered with honey! Go figure.....
