A while back I tried the Hornady 225gr BTHP in the 308 Win with good results. I had a feeling they may not stabilize in the factory 1/12 Rem varmint barrel, but they did, and shot pretty well on paper at 105 yards. I took them out to 1185 yards on a 1 moa target with repeatable accuracy.

Hornady gives the bullet a BC of .67, but It seemed to shoot closer to .71 in my test. I've heard the same from others who shoot it in their 300 WinMag out to well past 1K.

Here is the load data I used:

225gr Hornady BTHP, moly’d
Win brass
3.08” OAL (3.088 touches lands)
CCI 200 primer
RL-17
48.0gr – 2500 fps, sub-moa accurate (20.5" 1/12 twist Rem varmint barrel).

My correction at 4500' elevation, distance of 1185 yards was 41 moa. QuickTARGET predicts remaining velocity 1494 fps, energy 1115 ft-lbs.

Always good to see your posts, Shane. I have a pound of R17 and am wanting to try some of the heavies in a 1/10. Those are some looong bullets. Make the .308 have a .260 profile.

Off topic a bit, but seeing how you and a few others here shoot moly-coated bullets, I started coating my own with hBN. Too early to speculate on long term effects, but cleaning a Douglas .243 barrel is a lot easier and shot strings don't seem to spread out as soon as when shooting bare bullets.

I ran these for a long time. (Before they were discontinued.) My BC for them was .695 @ 2840fps. Out of a 28"x 1:10" 300WM.

I noticed on midway the 225's are listed as a 'seasonal run'. Hopefully they will become a regular item again in the future.

I have some loaded up in the 30-06 over 4000-MR, haven't chrono'd them yet, but I'm hoping to get around 2650-2700 fps from a 22" bbl.
