Hi Everyone

Okay

I know I've been tagging threads all over the place, and sneaking remarks here and there,
but I'm just trying to learn as much as possible. I have been trying to get a grasp on the
quality of .408 brass available in 2014. So far I have Bartram, Jamison, HSM and Chet Tac.
Some of the threads are a little old and I know things change.

So in 2014, what is the brass you use for your Windrunner 408? and please don't tell me
reloading their 375.. Lol

Thank You..

Be safe.

I bought 100 pieces of 408 Bartram brass for my 300 Thunder Hulk. Which is a 408 case shortened and necked down to 30 cal. The brass is Extremely soft and crushing along the case walls. This is the only experience I have with this years 408 brass. Looking for another manufacter. I can't seem to find Jamison anywhere.

I have 20 bran new in the box never fired pieces of Bartram brass that will not work for my project. You can have them for free just pay shipping. PM me if your interested.

That scares me. I'm a first time 408 owner and all this trouble to get good brass. When I need brass for my .338, I buy Lapua and everyone has them.

Is Chey Tac the Lapua of the .408?

Thank you for the offer. I will PM you soon

Cheytac wasn't making their own brass, per se, they just owned Jamison Intl, who was actually making the best from from about 2008-2011. Their new incarnation I imagine is doing the same, but I have no personal experience with it. Bertram has been steadily turning out .375CT and .408CT brass for a while now and you will sometimes come across it at the usual suspects. Maybe 10 years from now Lapua will make .375CT brass, but until then you'll just have to start calling the most reliable sources.

When I take 408 CT brass down to 338 Snipetac, I first use a die taking the neck down to 375 and then the 338 Snipetac die in a second step. Maybe you also used several steps - but if you go from 408 to 30 cal in one step only, you will likely ruin your brass.

I use 5 dies to shorten and neck down my brass. Thanks for the advice and offering to help. I used Jamison brass for the first 50 rounds with no issues. Bought 100 pieces of the new Bertram brass tried everything I could possibly think of before I gave up.

The best brass out there is the Jamison 2 star brass if you can find it. Captech International might have some. Good luck.

I have always been curious about this, but there have been some posts on here that have suggested that HH hasn't responded to inquiries:

Hülsen - Horneber

I have a few hundred pieces of Bertram which is variable in terms of H2O capacity and neck thickness, and I'd like to upgrade if I can.....

Thanks for the info..

So if I buy my .408 brass from Chey Tac, I will be getting Jamison brass?

This is why I'm getting into swaging my own bullets, because of all this inconsistency in availability.
Too bad I can't do the same for brass.

Yes, I believe so. Of course, a phone call to Cheytac would give you a definitive answer.

Captech's website, the new Jamison, is listing Bertram brass as their 408 CT brass so it looks like Bertram is the only game in town these days. I have lots of neck thickness variance with my Bertram leading to inconsistent accuracy. Too bad because I was about to order some new Jamison 2 star off of Captech.

Never mind, I some how was looking on custombrassandbullets.com when I thought I was on Captech's website. So hopefully Captech will get some more Jamison 2 star 408 brass in stock.

Windrunner 408XM Brass Choice - Bartram, Jamison, HSM and Chey Tac?

Decided to go with the Windrunner 96.

Hornady offers the 50BMG brass and sells the 750 A-Max..

I hear Lapua might get into the 50BMG as well..
